To keep an OBS browser overlay from reloading when you switch scenes, open the Browser Source properties and leave Shutdown source when not visible and Refresh browser source when scene becomes active turned off. To loop a local video, use a separate Media Source and enable Loop. These settings control OBS sources; they do not guarantee that YouTube will keep a live broadcast running indefinitely.
Choose the right OBS source for the job
A Browser Source displays a webpage, such as an overlay. A local video file that should replay is a Media Source. Keep these roles separate: the browser-source lifecycle controls affect whether a webpage unloads or reloads, while media-source controls govern video playback.

Keep a Browser Source from refreshing when you switch scenes
- In OBS, select the scene containing the overlay and open the Browser Source properties.
- Leave Shutdown source when not visible off. When enabled, OBS unloads the page when the source is hidden or its scene is not active.
- Leave Refresh browser source when scene becomes active off. When enabled, OBS reloads the page when you return to the scene.
- If the overlay becomes stale and needs a reload, use Refresh cache of current page for an immediate refresh.
Both lifecycle options default to off. Browser Source width and height set the webpage viewport, not the resolution of your YouTube broadcast. OBS Browser Source documentation
Loop a local video in OBS
- Add a Media Source to the scene and select the local video file.
- Enable Loop so playback starts again when the file reaches its end. Loop is off by default.
- Choose whether playback should restart when the source becomes active. Restart playback when source becomes active defaults on.
- Choose whether OBS should keep the file open while the source is inactive. Close file when inactive defaults off.

Set stream output separately from source properties
Browser Source viewport dimensions do not set YouTube’s stream output resolution. Configure the stream encoder for the resolution and frame rate you intend to send. YouTube’s live encoder guidance recommends CBR; check its current recommended values for your chosen output. What these settings can—and cannot—keep running
Leaving the Browser Source lifecycle options off prevents the specific unload and scene-activation reload behaviors those controls describe. Media Source Loop repeats the local file. Neither behavior guarantees that YouTube will keep the broadcast available indefinitely. Check stream availability and applicable limits in YouTube Live Control Room, and confirm the current encoder requirements before going live.
For an OBS-based stream, the computer running OBS and its connection remain part of the setup. If YouTube drops the stream, these source settings do not themselves reconnect it.
