This method depends on the computer, playback and internet connection staying available; YouTube’s setup documentation does not guarantee that one uninterrupted stream will remain live indefinitely.
What you need before starting
- A YouTube channel eligible to livestream: YouTube says it must be verified, have no live-stream restrictions in the preceding 90 days, and the streamer must be at least 16.
- A computer that can run OBS Studio continuously, plus an internet connection with enough upload capacity.
- An image and prerecorded audio you have permission to use in a worldwide livestream and any replay.
- OBS Studio and, if you want a playlist via OBS’s VLC Video source, VLC installed.
YouTube requires a valid video stream even when the picture is still. Its encoder error guidance specifies H.264 video and AAC audio for proper ingestion.

Set up the image and looping audio in OBS
- Create a scene. In OBS, create a scene for the radio broadcast.
- Add the still image. Add an Image source and select the image file. Position and size it to fill the canvas.
- Add the audio. For one file, add a Media Source, select the audio file and enable Loop. For a sequence of tracks, add a VLC Video source, create the playlist and enable Loop Playlist. OBS requires VLC to be installed for this source.
- Check the mix. Play the scene and confirm the audio meter responds, the audio is audible without clipping, and the image is visible. Do not assume that a silent or invalid video output is acceptable just because the visual is static.
A single file is simpler to maintain; a playlist lets programming change without replacing the source. In either case, make sure every item is cleared for the intended livestream use.
Connect OBS to YouTube Live Control Room
- In YouTube Studio, open Live Control Room and create or schedule an encoder stream.
- Copy the stream URL and stream key shown for that stream into OBS’s streaming settings. Treat the stream key like a password: anyone who obtains it may be able to broadcast to your channel.
- Configure the encoder for H.264 video and AAC audio, then start streaming from OBS.
- Wait for the incoming feed to appear in Live Control Room. Check the preview and stream health before you make the broadcast public or otherwise begin the planned session.
- Keep Live Control Room and OBS available for monitoring. YouTube recommends testing with audio and motion comparable to the planned stream and checking stream health during transmission.

Budget upload bandwidth and test reliability
YouTube recommends 20% upload headroom above the stream bitrate. The available upload capacity can change when other devices or applications use the same connection, so test the connection under realistic household or workplace conditions rather than relying only on its advertised speed.
- Use a reliable connection and, where the computer and router support it, consider wired Ethernet. A cable cannot increase the upload capacity supplied by your internet provider.
- Run a test before the actual broadcast and check the Live Control Room preview and health indicator.
- Monitor OBS playback and YouTube stream health while live. A 24/7 setup also depends on the computer remaining powered, the source continuing to play and the network maintaining upload capacity.

Protect the stream from copyright interruptions
YouTube’s livestream terms require you to have all necessary rights to exploit the content on Google services worldwide, including music rights from artists, labels, publishers and other rights participants. A track being available for personal streaming, described as royalty-free, or licensed for another platform does not by itself establish permission for a YouTube livestream. Confirm that the license covers the relevant territory, live transmission and any archived replay; secure rights for the image too.

Plan for replays and monetization carefully
Archives
YouTube states that streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. Its cited help guidance does not establish that a single uninterrupted stream longer than 12 hours will be archived as one complete replay. If a complete archive matters, consider splitting the broadcast into shorter sessions and verify the current behavior in YouTube Studio rather than relying on an archive from a 24/7 event.
Monetization
YouTube lists ads, Super Chat and Super Stickers, and channel memberships as possible livestream revenue mechanisms, subject to eligibility and settings; ad slots are not guaranteed to serve ads. The existence of those features does not establish that a repetitive 24/7 broadcast of prerecorded audio and a static image qualifies under current channel monetization policies. Do not build a revenue forecast on an assumption that this format will be monetized.

Fix common problems
