To rewind a Twitch stream, pause the live player or drag its seek bar to an earlier point. Choose Live to jump back to the current broadcast. The channel must have Stream Rewind enabled, and Twitch limits viewer access to certain subscribers and Twitch Turbo subscribers.
How to rewind while the stream is live
- Pause or seek backward: In the Twitch live player, pause the video or drag the seek bar to the point you want to watch.
- Return to the broadcast: Select Live in the player to catch up to the current moment.
Live chat continues in real time while the video is paused or rewound, so chat messages may refer to events you have not reached yet—or have already watched. Twitch documents the feature and playback controls on its Stream Rewind help page.
Why rewind may not be available
The channel needs to enable Stream Rewind
Twitch says only Affiliates and Partners can enable Stream Rewind. Even on an eligible channel, viewers do not necessarily have access: Twitch documents rewind for Channel subscribers on Affiliate or Partner channels that offer the ad-free viewing subscriber benefit and have Stream Rewind enabled, and for Twitch Turbo subscribers on any Affiliate or Partner channel where the feature is enabled.
Some streams are excluded
Stream Rewind is unavailable for streams in the DJ category and for DJ Program streams because Twitch does not allow VODs to be published for them.

How streamers enable Stream Rewind
Twitch says the setting is enabled automatically for Affiliates and Partners when both past-broadcast storage and automatic VOD publishing are enabled. The documented route is:
- Open Creator Dashboard → Settings → Stream → VOD Settings.
- Turn on Store past broadcasts.
- Turn on Always publish VODs. The Stream Rewind toggle appears under this setting.
Changes take effect starting with the next stream, so enabling the options during a live broadcast should not make rewind available immediately for that broadcast. See Twitch’s Stream Rewind instructions.

If the seek bar is difficult to use
An extension may cover or obstruct the seek bar. Open the player’s Settings gear and choose Hide Seek Bar to remove it temporarily. Refresh the page or choose Show Seek Bar to restore it.
After the broadcast: watch a saved VOD
Once a stream has ended, live rewind is no longer the option; look for a Past Broadcast, or VOD, if the streamer stored and published it and it is still available. Twitch’s On-Demand Content help page gives these retention periods, without stating a publication year:

These periods apply to saved Past Broadcasts; storage must be enabled for broadcasts to be saved in the first place. A VOD may not exist or may have expired, so it is not a guaranteed replacement for rewinding a live stream.
