ScreenshotMachine’s delay parameter gives a page extra time to render before capture. Set it to a supported wait—2,000 ms is the value used in the vendor’s example—then inspect the result and adjust if needed. It is a fixed timer, not a signal that JavaScript has finished or that a particular element is ready.
Use ScreenshotMachine’s delay parameter
Send a GET request to https://api.screenshotmachine.com/ with your account key and the page’s url. Add delay to wait before the screenshot is created. ScreenshotMachine’s API documentation describes this as controlling how long the capture engine waits; it does not document a JavaScript-completion event, network-idle wait, or DOM-selector readiness check.
- Get an API key by signing up with ScreenshotMachine.
- Set the target page URL and a supported
delay. Start with2000ms if the page renders content client-side. - Choose the required dimensions and device, then URL-encode query values.
- Inspect the returned image. If content is still missing, try a longer supported delay and capture again.
The documented delay values are 0, 200, 400, 600, 800, 1000, and 2000 through 10000 ms in 1,000 ms increments. The default is 200 ms. A longer wait can help with dynamic content, but it cannot guarantee that a slow or stalled page will be ready by the time the timer expires.
Runnable cURL example
The vendor’s example uses curl -Gs and URL-encoded fields. Replace the key and URL with your own values:

Choose dimensions, device, and capture framing
The API documents device values of desktop, phone, and tablet. Set dimension to control the output size; a full-page capture can use a value such as 1024xfull. For long pages containing images or animation, ScreenshotMachine suggests allowing a longer delay, such as 2,000 ms or more.

Encode query values before sending them. The vendor specifically calls out reserved characters such as # in selectors, which can otherwise be interpreted as URL fragments rather than part of the parameter.
Use API controls for overlays and focused captures
clickcan trigger a selected element before capture, for example a consent button.hidecan suppress selected elements such as overlays.selectorcaptures a matching DOM element rather than the whole page.croptargets a rectangle in the output.
These options change interaction or framing; they are not documented substitutes for waiting until JavaScript or a chosen element is ready.

Use the online generator without writing a request
ScreenshotMachine’s online generator provides fields for the URL, device, dimensions, full-page capture, zoom, image format, and delay. Its page describes the default wait as two seconds. It also exposes controls to click an element, hide elements, capture a matched DOM element, or crop a rectangle. Use these controls to adjust what the screenshot shows, and treat the delay as a timer rather than a readiness test.
Troubleshoot incomplete, stale, or error screenshots
The screenshot shows placeholders or misses dynamic content
Increase delay to another supported value and inspect a fresh result. Because this is a fixed wait, pages with variable rendering times may still be incomplete, and a longer value adds waiting time even when a page is already ready.

The image is an error result
Check the X-Screenshotmachine-Response header as well as the returned image. The API documentation lists response codes including invalid_key, missing_url, invalid_url, no_credits, and invalid_selector. Correct the corresponding key, URL, account balance, or selector issue before retrying.
The screenshot is older than the page
The documented default cache limit is 14 days. Set cacheLimit=0 to force a fresh screenshot, or choose an appropriate cache limit when testing changing page content. ScreenshotMachine says cached loads are not billed; confirm current service terms and pricing before relying on account-specific cost assumptions.

A long page is only partly populated
Full-page capture can include content that appears later as images or animations load. Try a longer delay, then inspect whether the missing section appears. The documentation does not promise that the maximum delay will accommodate every page.
