Start by checking whether the fault affects one title, one app, one device, or every device on your network. That quick comparison helps narrow down whether to investigate the video, streaming app, playback device, audio setup, or internet connection—before you change settings at random.
First, find out where the problem starts
Try another movie or episode, then another streaming app if you can. If practical, check the same service on another device or connect your device to a different network. Change one variable at a time so you can tell which comparison matters.

Why is my streaming video buffering or blurry?
Buffering, slow loading, and pixelated video commonly point to a weak or unstable connection, competing network activity, or playback conditions the connection cannot sustain. Check the connection against the resolution you selected; platform guidance and recommended speeds vary. - Pause large downloads, online games, or other internet activity temporarily. Multiple devices sharing a connection can reduce the speed available for playback. YouTube connection guidance · Prime Video guidance
- Lower the playback quality as a test. If that helps, the connection may not be keeping up with the selected resolution.
- Run a connection-speed check and, if practical, try another network. If the stream works elsewhere, the original connection or network configuration is a likely place to investigate.
- Restart the streaming app and device. If the connection still seems suspect, restart the router and wait for its indicator lights to stabilize before testing again. Prime Video troubleshooting

If several devices continue to buffer on the same connection after these checks, ask your internet provider to check for an outage or router or network issue. Netflix connection guidance

Why is there no sound when I stream?
Check the audio path from the app to the device that should play the sound. Netflix Help Center says: “If you see video, but don’t hear sound while watching Netflix, it usually means there’s either a problem with the audio settings on your device or the way your speaker system is set up.” Netflix Help Center
- Turn up the device’s media volume and check that the browser, app, or TV is not muted.
- Confirm the selected output—TV speakers, headphones, receiver, or soundbar—and check that the speakers and any HDMI or optical connections are seated properly. Netflix no-sound guidance
- If sound still fails, check the device or sound system’s manual for audio-output format settings. A format such as Stereo or Linear PCM may be appropriate for some assistive listening devices or voice-clarifying headsets, but there is no single setting that fits every system. - Restart the app or device and try another title. If the problem persists across titles, contact the device or audio-system manufacturer for model-specific help.
Why is the audio out of sync with the video?
Compare another title before adjusting lip-sync or audio-delay controls. If one program is out of sync while others play correctly, report the title-specific fault to the service. Netflix sync troubleshooting

- Restart the player or streaming device, then check whether the same mismatch remains.
- Review audio settings on the TV, streaming device, receiver, or soundbar.
- If the device offers an audio-delay or lip-sync setting, use its manual to find the appropriate control. Menus and suitable adjustments vary by model, so do not apply a universal offset.
Why is my streaming screen black, distorted, or the wrong color?
Black screen with sound
- Restart the streaming device or TV.
- Check the HDMI connection. If a receiver or sound system sits between the player and TV, bypass it temporarily and connect the player directly.
- Try a different HDMI input on the TV. If another TV works, the original TV input may be the issue; contact the TV manufacturer for model-specific advice.
- If the cable itself may be faulty, test with a known-good HDMI cable. Netflix black-screen guidance
Distorted, incorrectly sized, skipping, or stuttering picture
Check the picture and display settings on the TV or streaming device. If the issue appears only on one title, report it to the service rather than assuming the screen or cable is at fault. Netflix picture troubleshooting
Unexpected color or hue
Check the device’s picture settings and cable connections. If the color problem persists, compare another input or display and consult the TV or device maker’s support guidance. Netflix picture troubleshooting

What to do when an app or browser shows a playback error
On a computer
- Update the browser and operating system, close unnecessary tabs, and restart the browser or computer.
- Clear cache or cookies if the streaming service recommends it for the error you see.
On a TV or streaming device
- Power-cycle the device and check for app and device software updates.
- Check that the device’s date and time are set automatically, if that option is available.
- Temporarily disable a VPN or proxy while troubleshooting; some services may not work through them. Prime Video troubleshooting
Exact menus differ by service, app version, operating system, region, and hardware. Use the current help page for the affected service when an error code or service-specific step is involved.
When to contact support—and what to avoid
- Contact the streaming service when one title fails or a service-specific playback error persists after app checks.
- Contact the device or audio-system maker for model-specific picture, output, cable, receiver, or lip-sync settings.
- Contact your internet provider when a persistent connection problem affects multiple devices or services on the same network.
Save a factory reset for last. Resetting a device can remove account information and downloaded content from apps, so try less disruptive steps first. Prime Video troubleshooting
