1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesYou can check a web form’s appearance without submitting it: inspect its rendered styles in browser developer tools, or compare a screenshot with a saved reference. For recurring checks, Playwright Test can automate screenshot comparisons. None of these methods requires clicking the submit button.
Inspect a form manually in browser developer tools
- Open the page and leave the form in the state you want to check.
- Open browser developer tools. In Chrome, use Inspect mode to point to or select fields, labels, buttons, and nearby layout.
- Review the rendered element’s dimensions, colors, font properties, spacing, and accessibility information in the Inspect tooltip and Styles panel.
- Capture the form or page as a screenshot. In Chrome DevTools, you can inspect the DOM and capture a screenshot of a node; see Viewing and changing the DOM.
- Compare the image with an earlier screenshot. Keep the browser, viewport size, and page state consistent where possible.
- If something looks different, select that element in the Elements panel and inspect its applied CSS.
Do not click the submit control. If the form has autosave, live validation, or another side effect, avoid interacting with controls unless the check specifically requires it. For a visual-only check, passive inspection and screenshots are enough.
Automate repeat checks with Playwright
For a development or QA workflow, Playwright Test can save a screenshot baseline and compare later captures against it. Add a test such as:
import { test, expect } from '@playwright/test';
test('form appearance matches its reviewed baseline', async ({ page }) => {
await page.goto('https://example.com/form');
await expect(page).toHaveScreenshot('form.png');
});
Replace the example URL with the page you need to check. Run the test once to create the expected screenshot, review it, and keep it as the baseline. Later runs compare a new capture against that reference. Playwright’s screenshot assertion waits for two consecutive screenshots to match before comparing; screenshot assertions require the Playwright test runner.
#1 Best Overall
- CRISP CLARITY: This 23.8″ Philips V line monitor delivers crisp Full HD 1920x1080 visuals. Enjoy movies, shows and videos with remarkable detail
- INCREDIBLE CONTRAST: The VA panel produces brighter whites and deeper blacks. You get true-to-life images and more gradients with 16.7 million colors
- THE PERFECT VIEW: The 178/178 degree extra wide viewing angle prevents the shifting of colors when viewed from an offset angle, so you always get consistent colors
- WORK SEAMLESSLY: This sleek monitor is virtually bezel-free on three sides, so the screen looks even bigger for the viewer. This minimalistic design also allows for seamless multi-monitor setups that enhance your workflow and boost productivity
- A BETTER READING EXPERIENCE: For busy office workers, EasyRead mode provides a more paper-like experience for when viewing lengthy documents
Keep comparisons stable
- Use the same operating system, browser version, browser settings, hardware context, and headed or headless mode as the baseline run where feasible. Playwright notes that rendering can vary with these conditions.
- Focus on the form or relevant region if unrelated parts of the page create noise.
- Stabilize changing content such as timestamps, rotating banners, or live counters. Playwright’s Page API includes screenshot options to hide or style dynamic content.
- Inspect diffs before updating a baseline. A changed baseline should represent a reviewed design change, not automatically erase an unexpected regression.
Choose the right kind of comparison
| Approach | Best for | Advantages | Limits |
|---|---|---|---|
| DevTools inspection and screenshot | One-off checks or debugging | Built into the browser; exposes rendered styles and dimensions | Manual; reliable side-by-side comparison depends on consistent capture conditions |
| Playwright screenshot assertion | Recurring checks in development or QA | Saves a baseline and compares later captures automatically | Needs a test setup; environment and dynamic content can create diffs |
| Text or element snapshot | Checking labels or selected page content | Focuses on textual or structured changes | Does not reveal every visual or layout change |
Playwright supports non-image snapshots as well as screenshot comparisons. Use a screenshot when layout, spacing, color, or visual styling matters; use a text or element snapshot when the question is whether selected content changed.
Troubleshoot unexpected differences
The screenshot diff includes many unrelated changes
Check that viewport, browser, operating system, settings, and headed/headless mode match the baseline environment. Narrow the capture to the form, and stabilize timestamps, live counters, or rotating content.

The form looks different, but the CSS seems unchanged
Inspect the rendered element and its applied styles in DevTools, including its dimensions and surrounding layout. A screenshot comparison identifies where pixels changed; DOM inspection helps investigate the affected node and CSS.
The Playwright test fails on the first run
The first run may be creating the reference screenshot rather than comparing against an existing one. Review the generated baseline, then run the test again to compare future captures against it.

There is no image diff, but the words may have changed
A visual comparison may not be the clearest check for a label or selected content. Use Playwright’s non-image snapshot support for text or structured content instead.
