To combine several stream widgets into one theme, place them together inside a single overlay in StreamElements’ Overlay Editor, save it, then add that overlay to OBS as one Browser source. This keeps the widgets composed and managed together; adding several overlay URLs to OBS instead creates a stack of separate sources.
What “one theme” means in StreamElements
An overlay is a composition of visuals layered over a stream, such as alerts, labels, goals, and chat. StreamElements describes overlays as being composed in its Overlay Editor and rendered in broadcast software through a single browser source. A Super Theme can provide a starting point, but you can edit its overlays and widgets rather than treating the theme as a fixed, indivisible layout. Build one overlay containing multiple widgets
- Open Overlays. In StreamElements, open the Overlays area and create a new overlay, or choose a Super Theme from the Themes Gallery as your starting point. The exact editor controls can change, so use the current editor labels if they differ from the documentation.
- Set the canvas size. Match the overlay resolution to your stream canvas. A smaller overlay can work if you intentionally plan to position or scale it in OBS, but matching the canvas makes placement straightforward.
- Add the widgets you need. In the Overlay Editor, use the widget picker to add elements such as an AlertBox, labels, goals, or chat. StreamElements’ getting-started guide demonstrates adding an AlertBox and a Custom Widget; consult Getting Started with Overlays for its editor workflow.
- Arrange them together. Move, size, and customize the widgets in the shared editor layout. Save the overlay when the composition is ready. To duplicate a selected widget, the documented shortcut is Shift+D; to group selected widgets, use Shift+G. More shortcuts are listed in Overlay Editor Shortcuts.
- Check alert widgets before copying theme elements. If you brought elements across from separate overlays or themes, inspect the result for duplicate AlertBoxes. StreamElements warns that duplicate alert widgets can cause the same alert audio to play more than once. Hide or delete redundant copies.
- Copy the overlay URL. Copy the URL from the Overlay Editor or overlay manager after saving.
- Add it to OBS Studio. In OBS, add a Browser source, paste the overlay URL into its properties, and set the width and height for the target canvas or layout. StreamElements provides the steps in Adding Overlays to OBS Studio.
One composed overlay or several separate sources?
These are different ways to organize a scene. A single composed overlay puts multiple widgets together in the StreamElements editor and loads that composition as one Browser source. Alternatively, you can keep overlays independent and add multiple overlay URLs as separate Browser sources in an OBS scene; that makes each URL a separately managed layer.

The documentation describes these organizational options, but does not establish that either uses fewer computer resources or is faster. Choose based on how you want to edit and maintain the elements.
