For a screenshot that should show the page without a cookie banner, target the banner’s specific outer element with a narrow CSS selector in VisualScraper’s capture-time styling or removal workflow—if your version supports one. For a consent-flow test, leave the banner visible and use its actual accept, reject, or settings control. Hiding a banner changes the captured view; it does not record consent.
VisualScraper’s exact product version, interface labels, and selector support are not established here, so the steps below are a general workflow—not instructions for a verified VisualScraper setting.
Choose between a clean screenshot and a consent test
Decide what the image needs to prove before changing the page:
- Visual-only capture: Hiding the banner can be appropriate when the aim is to inspect or present the page layout without the banner obscuring it.
- Consent-flow test: Keep the banner and interact with the intended control. A screenshot with the banner hidden does not show that a visitor accepted, rejected, or configured cookies, and it may leave the page’s consent state unchanged.
A screenshot records what was rendered at capture time. The distinction matters: visual cleanup is not a substitute for testing the site’s consent behavior.

- Open the target page in a browser and inspect the banner using the browser’s developer tools.
- Identify the smallest stable outer element that encloses the whole banner. Choose a selector specific to that element rather than a broad selector based on generic words such as “cookie” or “overlay.”
- Check whether the banner has a separate backdrop or dimming layer. If it does, hiding the banner container alone may not remove the backdrop; inspect and target it separately only if needed.
Selector precision reduces the risk of removing unrelated page content. A selector that matches a generic class or text pattern may catch other elements as well.

Apply and verify the change in VisualScraper
If your VisualScraper product and version provide a pre-capture styling or element-removal feature, apply the selector there. The available information does not verify a specific menu, setting name, or API parameter, so do not assume that a particular VisualScraper control exists.
- Configure the selector only in the screenshot workflow, if supported.
- Run a capture on one page and inspect the resulting image before extending the change to more pages.
- Check that the banner and any intended backdrop are gone, while nearby page content remains intact.
- Look for layout shifts, dimming, locked scrolling, or a banner that returns after delayed loading or scrolling.
- If the result is wrong, narrow or revise the selector and repeat the one-page check.
A one-page trial is a practical check that the selector works for that page and capture timing. It does not establish that the same selector will work across different sites or banner implementations.
