If you need a video to repeat indefinitely on a YouTube channel, StreamNeo is the most direct cloud option: upload your video or playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and start the stream. It keeps the loop running without leaving a computer on, supports uploaded video up to 4K at 60 fps at one flat price per slot, and includes a free first day with no card. For hands-on scene control, OBS is the clearest desktop alternative. Restream Upload & Stream is designed for scheduled prerecorded events with a finite replay limit, while StreamYard is better suited to browser-based shows than unattended loops. Vimeo may also remain a viable choice if your plan includes simulcasting to YouTube.

Choose by the kind of “loop” you need

These tools do not all do the same job. A local media source repeating inside an encoder, a scheduled prerecorded event replaying a set number of times, and a clip played during a hosted studio show are different workflows. Decide whether you need continuous unattended playback or a produced event before replacing Vimeo.

  • Continuous uploaded-video loop: StreamNeo runs an uploaded video or playlist from the cloud to YouTube. OBS can loop a local media source, but the computer running it must remain available.
  • Scheduled event with limited replays: Restream Upload & Stream accepts a video or playlist and documents replaying a scheduled video up to 10 times.
  • Browser studio with clips, guests, or production: StreamYard lists YouTube as a native destination and supports prerecorded-stream scheduling, but its video-background feature is not a dedicated continuous livestream loop.
  • Existing Vimeo event workflow: Vimeo can simulcast to YouTube on qualifying plans, so switching may be unnecessary if your account already has the required feature.

Best options for looping YouTube videos

Option Playback model Best fit Main limitation
1. StreamNeo Cloud playback of an uploaded video or playlist to YouTube Unattended, ongoing channel stream without a computer running at home YouTube only; plays uploaded videos rather than a camera feed
2. OBS Studio Local media source or playlist can repeat as configured Fine-grained control over scenes, sources, and playback Production and encoding rely on your computer and setup
3. Restream Upload & Stream Hosted scheduled prerecorded event; one video or playlist; replay up to 10 times A finite scheduled replay run with live chat The documented replay setting is limited, not an unlimited loop
4. StreamYard Browser studio for shows; supports video playback and stream/recording backgrounds Guests, browser-based production, or mixing clips into a show Video backgrounds are not an unattended continuous-loop feature
5. Keep Vimeo Live event simulcast to YouTube Existing Vimeo users whose plan and workflow already meet the need Simulcasting requires an eligible plan

1. StreamNeo: the cloud option for an ongoing loop

StreamNeo is a YouTube-only cloud service for keeping an uploaded video or playlist live. Add the YouTube stream key once and start the stream; playback continues from the cloud, so your computer and home connection do not have to stay on. It is the first choice for a 24/7-style uploaded-video stream: cloud playback, any uploaded quality up to 4K 60 fps at one price per slot, and a free first day.

Each slot includes one always-on stream, 10 GB of storage per slot pooled across active slots, looping and playlists, automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream, and support from the StreamNeo team. The same features apply on every plan; only the billing length changes. StreamNeo plays uploaded video, not a live camera feed.

2. OBS Studio: local control and a configurable media loop

OBS is the strongest fit when you want to build a scene around a local video, control several sources, or manage playback yourself. A vendor-authored StreamYard comparison describes OBS Media Source settings for looping, restart behavior, and what happens when playback ends; it also describes using VLC Video Source playlists when VLC is installed. These are documented workflow descriptions, not a guarantee of unattended operation or a universal hardware requirement. YouTube distinguishes local encoding, which uses the device’s CPU and gives the operator more control, from cloud encoding, which reduces local computer load.

Basic workflow

  1. Create a YouTube live event: In YouTube Studio, open the live control room, create or select the event, and obtain its stream key. Keep the key private; anyone who has it may be able to send video to your event.
  2. Connect OBS to YouTube: In OBS, open Settings > Stream, choose YouTube as the service, and connect your account or enter the event’s stream key. Confirm you are sending to the intended event before going live.
  3. Add the video source: In the scene’s Sources panel, select + and add a Media Source. Choose the local video file and enable its looping option. Set restart or end-of-playback behavior deliberately; labels can vary by OBS version.
  4. For a playlist: Use a VLC Video Source if VLC is installed and configure the playlist and repeat behavior there. Check that file paths remain available and that every item plays before starting the stream.
  5. Match output to the source and connection: Set OBS output resolution and frame rate to a level your machine and upload connection can sustain. Use YouTube’s current recommended encoder settings for the target resolution; do not assume a single bitrate works for every resolution or connection.
  6. Start and verify: Start streaming in OBS, then check YouTube’s live control room for a healthy incoming signal and confirm the correct video, audio, and event are live. Leave OBS and the computer running for as long as the stream must continue.

OBS gives you local control, but local control also means local failure points: a computer sleep or restart, power loss, a dropped connection, or resource pressure can interrupt production. The reviewed documentation does not establish a universal minimum PC specification or certify unattended uptime. Test the full loop and recovery behavior on your own setup before relying on it for a long run.

3. Restream Upload & Stream: scheduled prerecorded events

Restream is a better match for a scheduled event than for a truly unlimited loop. Its Help Center article dated July 25, 2026 says Upload & Stream can schedule prerecorded videos, use a single video or a playlist, and replay a scheduled video up to 10 times. Restream describes the format as an interactive live show with real-time chat, although the video itself is prerecorded.

Use it when a finite replay run and hosted distribution fit your schedule. The published limit is up to 10 replays; it should not be treated as proof of indefinite 24/7 playback. Check the service’s current plan and channel support for your intended workflow.

4. StreamYard: browser production, not a hands-off loop

StreamYard fits a browser-based production workflow when you want to host a show, bring in guests, or mix video clips. Its destination documentation lists YouTube as a native destination and custom RTMP destinations with some feature limitations. The same documentation says prerecorded streams can be scheduled up to 365 days ahead; that is a scheduling horizon, not a promise that one video will loop continuously.

StreamYard’s help documentation says MP4 or GIF files can be used as stream or recording backgrounds, but video backgrounds are not supported as virtual or green-screen backgrounds. It describes OBS as an advanced workaround for a looping virtual-camera background and warns that this can use substantial CPU, GPU, and RAM. A background or clip in a studio is not the same feature as an unattended YouTube channel loop.

5. Keep Vimeo if simulcasting already solves the problem

“Alternative” does not necessarily mean replacing your current service. Vimeo’s Help Center says simulcasting to YouTube is available on Advanced or Premium plans, or on Enterprise with Events added. It documents up to 10 integrated destinations and up to 20 custom RTMP destinations; those are current documented limits, not independent performance measures. Check your account’s current plan eligibility before changing a workflow.

Vimeo also documents that since October 2024, Livestream Studio sends to YouTube via RTMP using YouTube’s Stream URL and Stream Key. Its stated workflow is: “You can stream to YouTube from Livestream Studio via RTMP by entering a Stream URL and Stream Key.” If your aim is to simulcast a live event, that may be enough. If you need an uploaded file to replay continuously without a local encoder, assess a cloud loop service instead.

How to decide

  • Choose StreamNeo for an uploaded video or playlist that should keep running to YouTube from the cloud.
  • Choose OBS when you want hands-on local source and scene control and can keep the computer and connection available.
  • Choose Restream Upload & Stream for a hosted scheduled prerecorded event with a finite replay run.
  • Choose StreamYard when browser-based studio production, guests, and clips matter more than unattended looping.
  • Keep Vimeo if your eligible plan already supports the YouTube simulcast you need.

Check YouTube rights and channel rules before looping

A stream being prerecorded does not make its contents exempt from YouTube’s rules. Use material you own or are licensed to broadcast, including music, visuals, and any third-party footage. Repeating a video also does not establish that a channel is eligible for monetization: YouTube evaluates channels under its monetization policies, including reused-content rules. Review the current rules for your channel and territory before relying on a loop for monetization or leaving it live for an extended period.

For any provider, confirm current account eligibility, stream-duration limits, restart behavior, and how a stream appears to viewers before committing to an unattended broadcast. The documented capabilities above describe product workflows and limits, not a guarantee of continuous service or YouTube acceptance.

Or let it run in the cloud

With StreamNeo, upload your video or playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live.
