3. vMix — Windows production with multiple inputs
vMix is a Windows live-production option for combining camera, audio and video inputs and sending the result to YouTube. Choose it when mixing and switching sources is central to the show. It is production software running on a computer, not a cloud playout service or a mobile-app equivalent. 4. Gyre or Upstream — cloud services listed for continuous streaming
YouTube lists Gyre and Upstream as cloud options for continuous streaming, and specifically describes Gyre as serving prerecorded videos without requiring a dedicated PC. These are relevant when the priority is cloud-based continuous playback rather than producing a live camera show at a local computer. The available information does not establish current pricing, account limits or comparative reliability, so verify those terms with each provider.
5. AJA HELO Plus — dedicated encoder with scheduled playback
AJA HELO Plus is a standalone hardware encoder. YouTube’s listing says scheduled prerecorded media can be streamed directly to YouTube Live without a computer. This makes it a narrower hardware-oriented option for operators who want a dedicated device, rather than a default inexpensive substitute for a phone app. Confirm current capabilities and costs with the manufacturer before purchase.

6. Restream — a distribution layer for an encoder feed
Restream can carry an external encoder feed to connected channels. Its documentation identifies OBS and vMix as compatible encoders and describes entering RTMP details in the software. Treat it as a distribution layer: it does not, on the available information, replace the encoder or provide the prerecorded content and unattended playout by itself.
Choose by workflow, not by the word “alternative”

YouTube setup: the encoder and the broadcast are separate pieces
YouTube’s Live API distinguishes a broadcast, representing the YouTube event or video, from a stream, which carries the audio-video feed and its streaming settings. Its documentation gives an example of creating a separate interview broadcast from an ongoing feed without stopping the continuing video stream. That distinction matters if you want a persistent feed but separate YouTube events: the encoder/feed and the broadcast configuration are related, but they are not the same object. Regardless of the tool, use a stream key only in the service or encoder you intend to authorize, and keep it private. YouTube’s encoder guide explains the encoder role; consult YouTube’s current Live Control Room and channel guidance for account-specific setup and rules. The stream stops when a laptop sleeps or disconnects
A computer-based encoder depends on the computer and its network being available. Check power, sleep settings, software operation and the local connection; if the aim is unattended prerecorded playout without a home computer running, choose a cloud option instead.
A relay service is mistaken for a playout service
Restream is described as carrying an external encoder feed. Pair it with an encoder such as OBS or vMix, and separately establish how the video is produced or played continuously.

A listed encoder is assumed to guarantee 24/7 uptime
YouTube’s listing describes product capabilities, not reliability for your specific network, account or source. Plan for monitoring and recovery appropriate to the chosen workflow, and verify the provider’s current service terms.
The channel or stream key does not work as expected
Check that the key belongs to the intended YouTube channel and that the selected service or encoder is configured with the corresponding streaming details. Do not share the key publicly; if it may have been exposed, replace or reset it through YouTube’s current controls.
Prerecorded content raises rights or monetization concerns
Continuous playback does not grant permission to use music, video or other material. Confirm that you hold the necessary rights and follow YouTube’s current copyright and monetization policies, including rules relevant to repetitive or reused content. A technical encoder cannot resolve a rights or policy issue.
