For the day-to-night look, either render the changing scene into one looping video or switch between separate scenes using a method you have tested. OBS supports media looping and playlists, but its documentation does not describe a built-in clock-based scene scheduler.
How the stream works
A 24/7 stream is a live encoded feed, even when its music and visuals were recorded in advance. You prepare the program, connect an encoder to YouTube Live with a server URL and stream key, then send the feed. The visual loop and its day-to-night progression are separate production choices: one long rendered file can contain both, or you can arrange distinct day and night scenes and automate their transitions with a separately verified method.
With a local encoder, the computer, media files, power and internet connection must stay available. A cloud service can play prepared media remotely, but introduces a provider dependency. Either way, make a restart plan and monitor the stream.
Prepare the lofi program and day-to-night visuals
Clear rights for every element
Use music and artwork you created, have permission to use, or can use under a license that covers the intended livestream and monetization. Check samples, illustrations, fonts, animations and background elements as well as complete tracks. Keep a rights ledger with the license version, attribution terms, territories, and permissions for live streaming and monetization. Copyright requirements vary by jurisdiction, and whether a particular license covers a particular track or territory is case-specific.

YouTube lists permission, applicable copyright exceptions, Creative Commons terms, and Audio Library or Creator Music for music as possible lawful-use routes. None guarantees avoiding a Content ID claim or copyright strike, according to YouTube’s copyright guidance.
Design a scene that can run continuously
- One rendered file: Animate the light, sky, window and room details across a long video, then check that its ending returns cleanly to its beginning. Combine it with the audio program if that suits your workflow.
- Separate day and night scenes: Prepare each scene and decide how the change will happen. OBS’s documented media-source controls do not establish a built-in clock-based scene scheduler, so verify your switching method before relying on it for unattended operation.
- Make the channel distinct: Avoid relying on the same low-effort loop for multiple uploads. Give the stream original music, meaningful visual variation and a clear channel identity.

Configure looping in OBS
OBS is listed among YouTube’s streaming software options. For a single local video or audio file, add a Media Source and enable Loop. For a playlist, add a VLC Video source and enable playlist looping. The OBS Media Sources guide documents those controls. A looping source alone does not guarantee a seamless audiovisual loop: inspect the media’s start and end points and listen for gaps or abrupt changes.

If using a cloud service, check its storage allowance, destination support, privacy and security controls, and what it does after a connection or source problem. A provider’s statements about its own reliability are not a guarantee. For example, Looping Stream describes an upload-and-playback workflow and says outages, invalid keys or source problems can stop a stream.
Connect OBS to YouTube Live
- Check eligibility and activation. YouTube says livestreamers must be at least 16 and the channel must not have a live-streaming restriction. Enable live streaming ahead of launch: first-time activation may take up to 24 hours, according to YouTube’s encoder guide. See YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility guidance for current requirements.
- Create or schedule the broadcast. In YouTube Studio, create or schedule a live stream and open its stream settings in Live Control Room.
- Copy the connection details. Copy YouTube’s server URL and stream key into the encoder’s streaming settings. Keep the key private: it authorizes a connection to the broadcast.
- Start the encoder and inspect the preview. Start sending from OBS, then check the incoming preview in Live Control Room. Complete the live-start step there if prompted. Confirm you chose the intended visibility before announcing the stream.
YouTube says streams shorter than 12 hours are automatically archived. A continuous stream exceeding 12 hours should not be expected to produce one complete multi-day replay. If preserving replays matters, plan periodic stream endings and restarts, label the successive watch pages, and keep local recordings where appropriate.

Test continuity before going public
Run the whole program privately or with the visibility appropriate for your test. Check the complete media cycle and the operating plan, not just the first few minutes.
- Picture and sound remain synchronized, including at the loop point.
- The day-to-night transition happens as intended, with no blank or frozen frame.
- The playlist loops correctly and no source stops unexpectedly.
- The stream key, destination and visibility are correct.
- You know who will monitor the stream and what to do after a disconnect or copyright warning.
- You have a backup copy of the source media and a short restart procedure.
Understand copyright and monetization separately
A stream being live does not mean it qualifies for monetization. YouTube’s monetization policies apply to live streams and call for original, authentic content. In a July 15, 2025 update, YouTube renamed its “repetitious content” policy “inauthentic content,” clarifying that repetitive or mass-produced content is ineligible under the existing rules. Its reused-content policy is separate from copyright permission: permission to use material does not by itself establish that a channel adds enough original value. YouTube does not guarantee that a lofi stream will be accepted into or remain in the Partner Program. Read the current YouTube channel monetization policies before building a channel around repetitive programming.

Troubleshoot common failures
The encoder connects, but YouTube does not show the stream
Check that you copied the server URL and stream key for the intended broadcast, that the channel is eligible to stream, and that the encoder is sending. Keep the key private; if it may have been exposed, replace it in YouTube Studio and update the encoder.
The video or audio stops at the end of a file
Check that Loop is enabled on the OBS Media Source, or that playlist looping is enabled for the VLC Video source. Verify the file opens correctly and test the full cycle. A file that ends on a blank frame or with silence may technically loop but still produce a poor transition.

The day/night change does not happen
A media source’s loop controls do not provide a documented clock-based scene scheduler. Render the change into one video, or use a separate switching workflow that you have confirmed works before relying on it unattended.
The stream drops or fails to resume
For local OBS, check the host computer, power, network and media source, then follow your restart procedure and inspect the YouTube preview. For cloud playout, check the provider’s status and the stream key and source settings; remote playback still depends on the provider and a valid connection to YouTube.
A copyright claim or monetization rejection appears
Review the claim and the rights for the specific track or visual element; do not assume that a “royalty-free” label or a short loop settles the issue. For monetization, review YouTube’s originality, inauthentic-content and reused-content rules as well as copyright permissions.
