Vimeo can loop a pre-recorded video during a live event and simulcast that event to YouTube. In Vimeo’s event production tool, set the video’s playback behavior to Loop, then add YouTube as a destination—either by connecting your YouTube account or by entering YouTube’s RTMP URL and stream key. This is a Vimeo live-event workflow; the documentation does not establish how YouTube labels the broadcast to viewers.
What you need before you set it up
- A Vimeo Advanced or Premium account, or an Enterprise account with the Events feature, for the relevant live-event and simulcast tools. See Vimeo’s YouTube simulcast instructions.
- A verified YouTube account. YouTube requires verification to livestream, according to Vimeo’s setup guidance.
- The pre-recorded video you want to play. Vimeo’s live playback feature plays the uploaded video as part of an event; it is not a camera feed.
How to loop the video and send the event to YouTube
- Create a Vimeo event. From the video’s settings page, choose Stream live to create an event with that video preloaded, or create an event and add the video to a scene. Follow Vimeo’s guide to streaming a video as a live event.
- Set the video to loop. In the event production tool, select the video and set its playback behavior to Loop. Vimeo says it restarts from the beginning when playback reaches the end. See Playback prerecorded videos during your Vimeo event.
- Add YouTube as a destination. In the event’s Destinations settings, choose one of the two setup methods below.
- Start the event and confirm it is live on YouTube. With direct integration, enable the YouTube destination and go live on Vimeo. With a scheduled YouTube event configured through RTMP, you may also need to choose Go live in YouTube Live Control Room.
Choose direct integration or RTMP
| Method | Setup | What to do when starting | Destination limit |
|---|---|---|---|
| Direct YouTube integration | Connect your YouTube account in Vimeo and enable YouTube as an event destination. | Go live on Vimeo to start the simulcast. | Up to 10 integrated destinations per event. |
| Custom RTMP | In YouTube Studio, get the event’s RTMP URL and stream key; enter them in Vimeo’s custom RTMP destination fields. | Start the event on Vimeo. For a scheduled YouTube event, check YouTube Live Control Room and select Go live if prompted or required. | Up to 20 custom RTMP destinations per event. |
The destination limits are Vimeo product limits in its current help guidance accessed October 3, 2026; they are not viewer or channel limits. Some platforms may require an additional action in their own portal before viewers can see a simulcast. For setup details, see Vimeo’s YouTube simulcast guide and About simulcasting.
Captions and what viewers see
Vimeo says captions or subtitles embedded in the uploaded video are not displayed when that video plays back live. If captions are important, plan another way to provide them rather than assuming the file’s captions will appear in the live event; Vimeo’s guidance does not specify an alternative caption workflow here.
Vimeo documents how to transmit the event to YouTube, but does not establish whether YouTube labels a simulcast as pre-recorded or how YouTube will classify a particular broadcast. Do not promise viewers a specific label or treatment on YouTube.

Troubleshooting the YouTube simulcast
- YouTube is unavailable as a destination: check that the Vimeo account has an eligible plan and that the YouTube account is verified for livestreaming.
- The video stops after one play: return to the event production tool and confirm the video playback behavior is set to Loop.
- The Vimeo event is live, but the scheduled YouTube event is not: open YouTube Live Control Room and check whether that RTMP event needs a separate Go live action.
- Captions from the uploaded file are missing: this is expected for Vimeo’s live playback of the uploaded video; those captions are not displayed during playback.
- Viewers cannot see the destination: check whether YouTube or another destination portal requires its own action before the stream is visible.
Or let it run in the cloud
If your goal is simply to keep uploaded video running as a YouTube livestream without leaving a computer on, StreamNeo is a separate cloud option: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. StreamNeo loops uploaded videos from the cloud, so nothing has to stay on at home. It streams the upload as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one price per slot; it automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card, one free day per account. Monthly billing is $9.99 per month. Start your free day with StreamNeo.

Does looping a Vimeo video make YouTube label it as prerecorded?
That is not established by Vimeo’s documentation; it describes transmission setup, not YouTube’s viewer-facing label or classification.
