To change prerecorded videos without ending a YouTube livestream, switch the active video or playlist in the cloud playout service sending the stream. YouTube receives that service’s outgoing program; it is not where you select the next prerecorded file. First connect the cloud service to the right YouTube broadcast using its stream URL and key, then use the service’s own controls to change what is playing. Button names, playlist scheduling, and whether a change is seamless vary by provider.
Where the video switch happens
A cloud playout service hosts the prerecorded media and sends its encoded output to YouTube. You make the change in the service’s interface, not in YouTube Live Control Room. YouTube’s encoder guide lists Gyre as a cloud-based tool for 24/7 prerecorded-video streams, but that listing does not document Gyre’s current playlist controls or guarantee particular switching features.
Before choosing a service, confirm that it supports the workflow you need: selecting a different video while a broadcast stays active, arranging or scheduling a playlist, and handling transitions and audio between files. These controls and behaviors are provider-specific; there is no universal cloud-service “Next video” button.
Set up the cloud playout and YouTube broadcast
- Choose a cloud service for prerecorded playout. YouTube lists Gyre as an example for 24/7 prerecorded streaming. Treat this as a provider listing, not an endorsement or confirmation of its current interface, pricing, file limits, or playlist behavior. Check the provider’s current documentation for those details before uploading.
- Upload the videos and arrange playback in the service. Set the order or playlist there. Verify whether the service permits live edits, what transitions it supports, and how it handles audio at video boundaries; YouTube’s documentation does not specify these provider-level features.
- Create or schedule a broadcast in YouTube Studio. Open Live Control Room and create a new stream or schedule one. Copy the broadcast’s stream URL and stream key into the cloud service’s encoder settings. YouTube’s guide says to enter the Live server URL and stream key in the encoder. Keep the key private: it allows an encoder to send video to your channel, and the key configured in the service must match the broadcast.
- Start the cloud output and check the preview. YouTube’s live production guide explains that after the encoder starts and YouTube receives the stream, a preview appears; that does not mean the broadcast is live yet. Inspect the preview and stream health. If the broadcast is not configured to start automatically, use Live Control Room to click Go Live.
- Change the video in the cloud service. While the broadcast is active, use that service’s playlist or source controls to select what plays next or what is on air. Test the transition and audio continuity in a private or unlisted rehearsal before relying on it for a public broadcast. Exact controls and transition behavior depend on the provider.
- End both sides deliberately. End the broadcast in YouTube and stop the cloud output according to the provider’s instructions. YouTube’s production guide says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived; plan separately if your broadcast will exceed that duration.
Check the broadcast before going live
- Enable livestreaming in time. YouTube says first-time live-stream enablement may take up to 24 hours. Do not leave activation until the scheduled start.
- Confirm the matching stream key and URL. A key or URL from a different broadcast can prevent the expected stream from reaching the right preview.
- Review privacy and start behavior. Confirm the intended privacy setting and whether you must manually start the public broadcast after the preview appears.
- Clear rights for live use and replay. YouTube’s production guide advises obtaining necessary clearances for the live stream, rebroadcast, and on-demand audio and video. Permission to use a recording does not automatically establish permission for every type of transmission or replay.
- Rehearse the switch. Check the playlist order, transition, and audio continuity with the provider’s actual controls. A rehearsal is especially useful because YouTube’s documentation does not describe how any particular service handles mid-stream changes.
Which workflow fits?
| Option | What it is suited to | What to verify |
|---|---|---|
| StreamNeo | #1 for keeping a prerecorded YouTube stream running: cloud playback, any uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot, and the first day free. | StreamNeo is for uploaded videos streamed to YouTube; check its current service details and storage allowance before planning a playlist. |
| Gyre cloud playout | YouTube lists Gyre as a cloud-based tool for 24/7 prerecorded-video streaming, including Full HD/4K claims in the listing. | The listing does not explain current playlist editing, transitions, pricing, or availability. |
| Grabyo Producer | YouTube describes Grabyo as a cloud-native live production platform with camera switching, graphics, and RTMP delivery including YouTube; it may suit a broader show with live elements. | The cited YouTube listing does not explicitly document prerecorded playlist switching. |
| OBS Studio | A desktop encoder option if you are willing to run playback and streaming locally. | It is not cloud-hosted playback. The OBS Project forum guide for connecting OBS to YouTube was last updated in 2021. |
| Hardware encoder or switcher | A physical production setup for a hardware-based workflow. | It is not required for cloud-hosted prerecorded playback. |
For any provider, compare cloud-hosted versus locally operated playback, manual switching versus scheduled playlists, whether you need cameras or graphics, supported stream formats, and available monitoring and recovery controls. The YouTube listings establish broad categories, not detailed, current feature or price comparisons.
