What’s actually slowing this PC down?

A spinning loading symbol means YouTube has not started or resumed playback; it does not identify the cause. The problem could be your device or connection, a shared network, the broadcaster’s stream or encoder, or a temporary YouTube issue. Compare another stream, device, and connection, then check whether other viewers are affected to narrow it down.
First, work out who is affected
Before changing settings, note when the spinner appears and compare playback under different conditions. This helps separate a local playback problem from one affecting a network or the broadcast itself.
- Only you are affected: Start with your app or browser, device, and internet connection.
- Several people on the same connection are affected: Check that network and its internet connection.
- Viewers on different networks report the same problem: The broadcaster should check the stream and encoder.
These patterns are clues, not proof. A stream that stalls only as an ad starts is a useful detail to report, but timing alone cannot establish the cause.
Try these viewer fixes in order
- Refresh or reopen playback. Refresh the player, or close and reopen the YouTube app or browser. Then try another live stream. If other streams play normally, the issue may be specific to this broadcast.
- Change the device or connection. If possible, open the same stream on another supported device. Switch between Wi-Fi and mobile data, or test a supported wired connection. If playback works on one connection but not another, the failing connection or its route is a likely factor, though this does not identify the precise network fault.
- Check whether playback quality is too demanding for the connection. If the player offers a quality control, try a lower setting. YouTube’s general guidance lists approximate sustained speeds of 5 Mbps for 1080p HD and 20 Mbps for 4K UHD; these are recommendations, not guarantees against buffering. YouTube’s separate TV troubleshooting guidance recommends at least 7 Mbps for HD streaming on a TV. A fast connection can still be unstable or congested.
- Restart the device and check for updates. Restart the computer, phone, tablet, TV, or streaming device. Check for available YouTube app, browser, and system updates.
- Escalate based on the pattern. If other streams work but this one does not, check whether the broadcaster has acknowledged a problem. If others on your network are affected, contact your network administrator or internet provider. If reports come from viewers on separate connections, send the broadcaster the time of the problem and what device and connection you used.
If you are watching on a computer
- Close and reopen the browser, then restart the computer if playback remains stuck.
- Update the browser and use a current supported version. YouTube suggests Chrome in its troubleshooting steps.
- Close unnecessary tabs and try a different browser. A private or incognito window can help check whether a browser extension is involved; if playback works there, test extensions one at a time.
Browser extensions, cached data, and connection quality can contribute to freezing or loading problems. A private window is a diagnostic test, not a guaranteed fix.

- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
If you are watching on a phone or tablet
- Try the stream on another connection, such as mobile data instead of Wi-Fi, if available.
- Close and reopen YouTube, then restart the device if needed.
- On Android, clear the YouTube app cache from the device’s app settings if that option is available. The menu names and steps vary by device and operating-system version.
- Check for YouTube app and system updates.
If you are watching on a TV
- Check that the TV or streaming device is connected to the internet; try a lower playback quality if the player offers that control.
- Quit and reopen YouTube. If appropriate, sign out and back in, then restart the TV or streaming device.
- Check for system software updates. YouTube recommends placing a wireless TV or streaming device near the router, with as little interference as possible.
- Use the TV-specific HD guidance of at least 7 Mbps as a reference, not a guarantee that playback will be uninterrupted.
What the spinner pattern may tell the broadcaster
If you are responsible for the live stream, treat viewer reports as triage signals rather than a definitive diagnosis. Ask whether the problem affects one person, multiple viewers on one shared network, or viewers on separate networks.
- One viewer reports trouble: Ask them to compare another stream, device, or connection before changing the broadcast.
- Several viewers on one shared network report trouble: Their common network may be involved. YouTube gives an illustrative example: 10 users watching 10 streams require 10 times the inbound network speed of one stream. This is an example about shared demand, not a universal measurement.
- Viewers on separate networks report trouble: Inspect live-stream metrics, reported errors, and the encoder’s preview. If the encoder output looks healthy, check outbound internet strength and contact the internet provider if the connection appears to be the problem.
YouTube recommends reporting a continuing live-stream problem through its support process. Viewers can also submit in-app feedback after a playback problem.

Could this be a YouTube outage or ad-loading issue?
Sometimes a platform-side incident can produce a symptom that resembles a local playback failure. On April 14, 2026, Natasha, a Google employee on TeamYouTube, updated a YouTube Community thread about a persistent loading icon when an ad was supposed to start on some monetized live streams, primarily in desktop browsers and TV apps. The update said the issue was fixed and advised viewers to refresh the player. That is a historical incident report, not evidence that the same issue is happening now.

If you are a broadcaster trying to keep uploaded videos playing continuously on YouTube, rather than troubleshoot a viewer’s device or connection, StreamNeo is a cloud service for looping uploaded videos and playlists on YouTube. It does not fix playback problems caused by an individual viewer’s device or network. You upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live; the cloud keeps the playback running without a computer or home connection staying on. The first day is free with no card. Try StreamNeo.
