How to Add a Changing Track Title to a 24/7 YouTube Music Stream

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

To show a song title that changes with the music, add a now-playing overlay to the video sent to YouTube and connect it to a source that knows which track is playing. In OBS, that is typically a browser-source overlay in your scene. If your music runs through hosted playout, use its now-playing overlay if it can read the current item’s metadata. YouTube’s broadcast title describes the live video; it is not a built-in per-track label.

How the track title gets onto the stream

There are three separate pieces: the music player or playout system plays audio, a data source identifies the current track, and an overlay renders that information in the outgoing video. The overlay must be part of the video composition you send to YouTube, and its data source must update when the music advances.

A graphic that looks like a song label is not enough on its own. If it is not connected to current-item information, it cannot change automatically. Likewise, a browser source that plays music is not necessarily the same thing as a browser source that displays track metadata.

Option 1: Add a now-playing overlay in OBS

Use an overlay made to display current-song information, then add its browser content to the OBS scene used for the live output. One example is the community resource listing for Music on Stream. Its listing describes a browser-based overlay, styling options, and title inputs that can include YouTube chapters or a video-description playlist. It also lists support for YouTube and several other playback sources. The listing was created April 12, 2024, and says it was last updated September 18, 2025; check its current instructions and supported inputs before relying on a particular setup.

Elebase USB to USB C Adapter for iPhone 18 Pro Max,USBC Car Charger Adapter
  • Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
  • Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
  • Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
  • Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
  • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
  1. Identify the actual music source. Note whether OBS, a browser, or another application is playing the music. The overlay needs a way to receive current-track information from the source or from a playlist, chapter list, or other supported metadata input.
  2. Choose an overlay input that matches that source. Check the overlay’s current documentation for the relevant playback source and how it obtains titles. Do not assume that any YouTube playlist embedded in a scene will automatically expose reliable, advancing track metadata.
  3. Add the overlay to the outgoing scene. In OBS, add the overlay as a browser source in the scene being sent to YouTube. Position and style it so the text is legible without obscuring important visuals.
  4. Test a track change before relying on automation. Preview the scene and check that the displayed title changes when the audio source advances. Confirm that the audio and label refer to the same item, and check what happens when playback pauses or the source reconnects.

Exact installation controls depend on the overlay, operating system, OBS version, and music source. Follow the overlay’s current setup guide rather than assuming a particular URL, browser-source setting, or playlist format.

Option 2: Use the hosted playout system’s overlay

If your music rotation already runs inside a hosted playout platform, its own now-playing element may be the simplest fit: the platform knows which scheduled item it is playing and can read file metadata. For example, Playout.video’s guide says its overlay updates as content rotates and displays metadata from the media file. It also notes that replaying the same item in a loop does not produce a different now-playing display. The guide is dated July 9, 2026; check the current interface and confirm the overlay follows the audio source you actually use.

This option is less useful when the music plays somewhere outside the hosted playout system: the platform may not know what is currently audible. Confirm the overlay’s data source before adding it to the outgoing video.

Choose by the metadata path

Question What to verify
What system plays the music? Use an overlay connected to the system that actually advances the tracks, or to a playlist or schedule that stays in sync with it.
Where does the title come from? Confirm whether it is detected from playback, read from chapters or a playlist, or taken from media-file metadata.
When does the label update? Check whether it changes at track transitions, what it does on pauses, and whether repeating the same item leaves the same title displayed.
Is the label in the video sent to YouTube? Make sure the overlay is included in the outgoing scene or playout composition, not merely visible in a local player or control panel.

The documented examples show different ways to supply track information; they do not establish that one approach is more accurate or reliable in every setup. The decisive test is whether the title source matches your actual audio and updates when that audio changes.

Why changing YouTube’s broadcast title is not the solution

YouTube’s Live Streaming API treats the broadcast title as metadata for the broadcast video, not as an automatic field for each song. Google’s LiveBroadcast resource reference says, “The broadcast represents exactly one YouTube video.” The API overview distinguishes the live stream sent by the channel owner from the broadcast viewers watch.

So changing the broadcast title is not a dependable substitute for a visible, per-track label in the picture. For a title viewers can see change alongside the music, use an overlay whose input stays synchronized with the music source.

Troubleshooting a title that does not change

  • The title is blank: Check that the overlay has access to its selected metadata input and that the current item has a title in the format the overlay expects.
  • The title appears, then stays the same: Verify that the input advances with the music. A static label, an unsynchronized playlist, or a loop that repeats the same item may not provide a new title.
  • The displayed track is wrong: Compare the overlay’s source with the application actually producing the audio. If the overlay reads a separate playlist or schedule, check that it follows the same order and transitions.
  • The title is visible in OBS but not to YouTube viewers: Confirm that the browser source is in the active outgoing scene and that the scene is the one being streamed.
  • The overlay stops updating after a pause or reconnect: Check the overlay’s documented behavior for pauses and reconnections, then test again with the music source advancing. The Music on Stream listing says its overlay hides automatically when music pauses, but verify current behavior for your chosen input.

Keep rights and metadata separate

A displayed title identifies a track; it does not grant permission to stream it. Make sure you have the rights or license needed for the music in your broadcast. YouTube’s title and live-broadcast metadata do not replace a rights check, and a correct now-playing overlay does not prevent a copyright claim or other enforcement action.

For a continuous stream, also make sure the metadata is accurate when a track repeats or the playlist changes. A label that names the wrong song can mislead viewers even if the audio itself continues normally.

Or let it run in the cloud

If the music is a set of uploaded recordings rather than a live camera feed, StreamNeo can keep a YouTube channel live from the cloud: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. Its role is to loop uploaded videos; it does not go live from a camera. For changing track titles, make sure the title information is part of the video or otherwise supported by the metadata workflow you use—the cloud playout itself does not make YouTube’s broadcast title change per track.

  • Nothing has to stay on at home: the stream continues from the cloud when your computer is off.
  • Any uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps streams as made at one flat price per slot, with no re-encode or quality tiers.
  • Automatic recovery is available if YouTube drops the stream.
  • The first day is free with no card, once per account.

The monthly option is $9.99 per month. Start with the free StreamNeo trial.
