To stream a prerecorded desert-wind ambience video continuously on YouTube, create an encoder stream in YouTube Studio, connect an encoder with your stream URL and key, set the video to repeat in the encoder, then preview and start the feed. YouTube handles the live event; looping and recovery from a dropped connection depend on the encoder or service you choose.
Before you set up the stream
Check that your channel is eligible to go live. YouTube requires channel verification, no live-streaming restriction in the past 90 days, and a streamer who is at least 16. Your stream must also comply with YouTube’s Community Guidelines and Terms of Service. See YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility and policy guidance.

If this is your first live stream, activation can take up to 24 hours. Enable live streaming and allow for that delay before you plan a launch. YouTube’s encoder setup instructions are at Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder.

Set up a YouTube encoder stream
- Enable live streaming. In YouTube Studio, follow the prompts to turn on live streaming for your channel. If activation is pending, wait for it to complete before scheduling a launch.
- Create or schedule an encoder event. In YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room, choose the encoder workflow, then add the title, description, visibility, and other event details. YouTube recommends setting up an encoder event at least two hours before it begins.
- Get the connection details. Create or select a stream key and copy the stream URL and key into the encoder’s YouTube connection settings. YouTube describes a stream key as being like a password and address for the encoder feed; keep it private. If you think it has been exposed, reset it in the stream settings. See Manage live stream settings.
- Add the ambience video and configure the loop. Select the prerecorded video and its audio as the encoder’s source. Use that encoder’s documented repeat or playlist controls to play it continuously. YouTube’s general encoder instructions explain how to connect, but do not specify a universal looping control, so confirm the behavior in the documentation for your chosen encoder.
- Start the encoder and preview. YouTube recommends starting the encoder at least 15 minutes before a scheduled event. Check the Live Control Room preview before going live; confirm the image is moving, the wind audio is audible at a comfortable and consistent level, and the event is reachable by its intended viewers.
YouTube accepts software and hardware encoders, and says expensive equipment is not necessary to get started: “You do not need expensive equipment, what you have at hand will do.” That general advice is not a guarantee that a particular device or setup can run reliably unattended around the clock. Test the stream for unattended operation
A successful preview confirms that the feed is reaching YouTube; it does not establish that the stream will keep running without intervention. Before relying on a 24/7 setup, test the encoder’s loop and its response to interruptions.
- Let the source run through a full repeat and listen for a gap, abrupt level change, or a transition that breaks the ambience.
- Simulate a network interruption or encoder restart. Check whether the encoder reconnects, resumes the source, and restores the YouTube feed as expected.
- Decide how you will notice a failure and who will restart the stream. Do not assume YouTube itself will restart an encoder process or loop the source.
- If you choose to save a local archive, check that the file is growing and can be played back. Local recording is optional; it is not required to deliver the stream.
- During operation, monitor audio and video quality and confirm viewers can access the event. YouTube recommends these checks, but they are not an uptime guarantee.
Understand replay and rewind limits
YouTube automatically archives streams shorter than 12 hours. For streams longer than 12 hours, DVR rewind may be limited or unavailable, so do not promise viewers a complete replay or unlimited rewind from a single 24-hour event. These are separate considerations: automatic archiving applies to streams under 12 hours, while DVR describes viewers’ ability to seek backward during a live stream. See YouTube’s encoder-stream guidance and Turn on DVR on live streams.
