To keep a YouTube live stream running from a Windows cloud PC, run a streaming encoder on that PC, connect it to a YouTube Live stream with the server URL and stream key from YouTube Studio, and monitor the stream’s health. Use RTMPS where your encoder supports it. A cloud PC can remove the need to leave your home computer on, but uninterrupted operation also depends on the cloud provider’s runtime, network and recovery behavior.
Before you start: check channel eligibility and cloud-PC behavior
- Your YouTube channel must be verified, have no live-streaming restriction in the previous 90 days, and the streamer must be at least 16. Enabling live streaming for the first time may take up to 24 hours. Check YouTube’s current live-streaming eligibility guidance.
- Confirm that the cloud PC provider permits unattended sessions and learn what happens when you disconnect, the machine reboots, or the network drops. Verify outbound streaming access and any GPU or encoder requirements with that provider; cloud-PC behavior varies, and there is no single setting that guarantees 24/7 operation across providers.
- Decide whether you need a continuous live broadcast, archived replays, or separate recordings. YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived; do not rely on a single 24-hour broadcast to produce a complete archive. Plan any restarts, segments and separate recordings around your needs.
Set up YouTube Live and connect the encoder
- Open YouTube Studio and go to Create → Go live to open Live Control Room. Create a stream or select the one you intend to use. YouTube’s encoder setup instructions explain the current workflow.
- Copy the stream’s server URL and stream key from Live Control Room into the encoder’s streaming settings. Treat the key like a password: anyone with it may be able to broadcast to the stream. Do not put it in a public screenshot, chat, or configuration file accessible to others.
- Choose RTMPS as the connection protocol when available. YouTube recommends RTMPS; its developer documentation describes it as RTMP over SSL and specifies a valid RTMPS endpoint on port 443. Use the endpoint provided for your stream rather than guessing or substituting a server address.
- Configure the encoder, then start a test broadcast. Check the Live Control Room preview and stream-health messages before depending on the stream unattended. YouTube explicitly advises testing before going live.
Choose encoder settings YouTube can ingest
YouTube’s current encoder settings support RTMP/RTMPS; H.264, H.265/HEVC or AV1 video; AAC or MP3 audio; constant bitrate encoding; and frame rates up to 60 fps. These are platform recommendations, not a guarantee that a particular cloud PC can sustain the selected output.

Test upload capacity using YouTube’s recommended approach and a representative section of your content, including its typical motion and audio. A static screen may not expose problems that appear during fast movement or complex scenes. Start with settings the cloud PC can sustain, then check YouTube’s preview and health indicators before leaving the encoder unattended.
Keep the broadcast running and plan for interruptions
A working encoder connection is only one part of a 24/7 setup. Confirm the provider’s rules for keeping the Windows session active and determine how to restart the encoder after a reboot or interruption. Where supported, configure the encoder or operating environment to relaunch after a failure, but do not assume that a remote-desktop disconnect, cloud-PC restart, or provider maintenance will preserve the process.

YouTube’s current limits are 10 active streams per channel and three active streams per stream key. Follow YouTube Community Guidelines and Terms of Service for live content. For a continuous schedule, plan how and when to restart or segment the broadcast, and arrange separate local or cloud recording if you need a complete recording beyond YouTube’s under-12-hour automatic archive behavior.
Troubleshoot common stream problems

YouTube’s LiveStreams API documentation describes health states and configuration issues, including codec, bitrate, keyframe and ingestion problems. Use the specific warning shown in Live Control Room to narrow down whether the issue is encoder configuration or delivery.
