You can also choose manual mid-roll placement and insert no breaks. That prevents mid-roll ads from being served; it does not guarantee an ad-free stream, because YouTube says pre-roll and display ads are automatically enabled when live-stream monetization is on.
What “no ad breaks” can—and cannot—mean
YouTube separates live-stream mid-roll controls from the other ads associated with a monetized live stream. In Live Control Room, creators can choose automatic, scheduled, or manual mid-rolls. With manual placement, if you insert no ad breaks, YouTube says no mid-roll ads are served. Pre-roll and display ads are automatically enabled when monetization is turned on for a live stream. So the accurate goal is no manually placed mid-roll breaks, not a promise of zero ads of every kind.
Ad slots are not guaranteed to serve, either. The setting controls whether you schedule or insert mid-roll opportunities; it does not guarantee that an ad will appear at every opportunity, nor that every viewer will see the same ad experience. See YouTube’s live-stream monetization guidance.
Check whether your channel can offer memberships
YouTube memberships are monthly payments from viewers in exchange for creator-provided perks, such as badges, emoji, and other members-only benefits. Before planning a membership launch, check both channel eligibility and the required terms. The current overview lists these lower-tier thresholds for memberships:

- At least 3 public uploads in the past 90 days.
- Either 3,000 eligible public watch hours in the past 365 days or 3 million eligible Shorts views in the past 90 days.
These thresholds are not universal guarantees of access: feature availability and channel rules vary by region and channel. Use YouTube Studio and the monetization options overview to confirm what is available to your channel. YouTube also describes a higher ad-revenue-sharing tier: 1,000 subscribers and either 4,000 eligible public watch hours in 365 days or 10 million eligible Shorts views in 90 days. Membership eligibility and watch-page ad eligibility are separate; reaching a membership threshold does not by itself establish eligibility for ad revenue.
Turn on memberships and make the offer manageable
- Confirm eligibility in YouTube Studio. Check the Earn or monetization area for your channel’s current feature access and any outstanding requirements.
- Accept the applicable fan-funding terms. YouTube requires acceptance of the Commerce Product Module for fan-funding features, or the earlier Commerce Product Addendum where applicable. Memberships are subject to the YouTube Commerce Products monetization policies.
- Activate channel memberships. Follow the memberships setup flow shown in YouTube Studio for your channel. Feature availability and the exact options shown can vary by region and channel.
- Choose perks you can deliver repeatedly. Offer a small, sustainable set of benefits and state clearly how often members receive them. YouTube defines memberships as monthly payments for perks, but does not prescribe a price or a particular perk—and there is no established conversion rate to plan around.
- Explain the value during the stream. Tell viewers what membership supports and what members receive, without implying that membership removes ads for them unless your actual settings and offer do so.
Fan-funding terms and watch-page monetization terms are distinct. Watch-page ads and YouTube Premium revenue are subject to the Watch Page Monetization Module (or prior terms where applicable); accepting the fan-funding terms is not a substitute for those requirements.

Set manual mid-rolls with no breaks
- Open YouTube Studio and enter the Live Control Room for the live stream.
- Open the stream’s monetization controls and review the available mid-roll approach: automatic, scheduled, or manual. The precise controls shown can depend on the stream and account.
- Select manual mid-roll placement if your aim is to have no mid-roll breaks.
- Do not insert or schedule any mid-roll ad breaks. YouTube says no mid-roll ads are served when manual mode is selected and no breaks are inserted.
- Save or apply the stream settings and verify them in Live Control Room before relying on them for a long-running broadcast.
Scheduled breaks can be set at intervals of 6, 12, 18, 24, or 30 minutes. Those intervals are not the right setting for a no-mid-roll approach, because they schedule opportunities to show breaks. YouTube also offers a ten-minute delay control for automatic ads. That is a different strategy: it delays automatic ads rather than disabling mid-rolls, and manual breaks still display while the delay control is on.
Choose a monetization approach that fits the stream

YouTube’s format comparison lists memberships and gifted memberships for both horizontal and vertical live streams, while pre-roll and mid-roll ads are listed for horizontal streams only. Confirm the supported features for the format you plan to use in YouTube’s live streaming guidance.

If you are weighing ad revenue against viewer interruptions, YouTube reported an average uplift of over 20% in in-stream ad revenue per hour for creators who selected automatic live mid-roll ads compared with channels that had not turned them on. The January 2024 comparison averaged results across 207 countries. It is YouTube’s comparison of those groups, not a forecast for an individual channel, and it says nothing about membership revenue.

What to verify before going live
- Confirm that memberships and the relevant monetization features are actually available to your channel and region.
- Check that you accepted the correct terms for fan funding and, separately, watch-page ads if you intend to monetize through ads.
- Review the mid-roll mode in Live Control Room; for no mid-rolls, use manual placement and insert none.
- Set realistic membership perks and a delivery cadence you can sustain throughout a continuous stream.
- Review YouTube’s applicable monetization and live-stream policies before using music, video, or other content you do not own or have permission to use. The eligibility figures above do not override content or policy requirements.
