Verify and enable your channel, connect the encoder through YouTube Studio, test the stream, and arrange monitoring, recovery, and a local recording. Do not rely on one uninterrupted 24-hour broadcast being archived: YouTube says streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured.
Before you start: check channel access and music rights
Confirm the channel can go live
YouTube’s live-stream guidance, accessed in 2026, says a channel must be verified and must not have had a live-streaming restriction in the preceding 90 days. First-time live-stream activation can take up to 24 hours, so enable it before the planned launch. YouTube also says streamers must be at least 16 years old.
Clear the exact music and recordings
Classical music has two distinct rights questions: whether the underlying composition can be used, and whether you have permission to use the particular performance and recording. A composition may be public domain in one territory while a modern recording of it remains protected. Check the rights for the works and recordings you plan to play, the territories where the stream will be available, and whether the permission covers live streaming, any archive or replay, and your intended monetization.
YouTube’s live-stream terms put responsibility on the provider to hold the rights needed to exploit the live content worldwide, including applicable music rights from artists, record labels, publishers and other royalty participants. Keep the written permissions, track list, territory terms, and any Content ID allowlisting confirmation available to whoever operates the stream.

- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
A license does not necessarily prevent an interruption. YouTube scans live streams for third-party content and may show a placeholder, warn the creator, temporarily interrupt the broadcast, or terminate it. YouTube says a rights holder may need to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist. Coordinate with the label, distributor, publisher, or other relevant rights holder and confirm the channel is allowlisted where needed.
YouTube describes copyright-safe music as public-domain music or music used with the copyright owner’s permission. A “free” label or attribution in a description does not by itself establish permission or prevent a Content ID claim. Check the exact license for continuous live use; do not assume a catalog’s ordinary video terms cover a 24/7 live broadcast.

YouTube for Artists advises music channels to coordinate with their label or distributor when using copyright-protected music in a live stream. The platform’s rules and guidance can change, so recheck the current terms and the rights holder’s written permission before launch.
Choose an encoder and prepare the broadcast
Software or hardware
YouTube supports software encoders running on a computer as well as dedicated hardware encoders. Hardware is optional, not a prerequisite for a 24/7 stream. Choose based on the equipment you already have, who will operate it, and how you will detect and recover from failures. A dedicated encoder may suit an operation that needs separate equipment, but it does not remove the need for monitoring or a tested recovery plan.

Prepare a simple visual and audio path
A radio-style stream still needs to send video as well as audio. Prepare a visual such as licensed cover art, a station identity screen, or a restrained visualizer. This is a production choice rather than a special YouTube requirement for classical music. Check that the encoder is capturing the intended playback source and that the video remains present throughout the broadcast.
Create the YouTube stream and connect the encoder
- Open Live Control Room. In YouTube Studio, select Create → Go Live. Create a stream or schedule one in Live Control Room. Scheduling can provide a watch page to share ahead of the broadcast.
- Copy the connection details. In the stream settings, copy YouTube’s server URL and stream key into the encoder’s streaming settings. YouTube’s encoder guidance supports RTMP/RTMPS and recommends RTMPS. Treat the key like a password: do not put it in the public stream description or other public documentation.
- Set up the encoder. Select the intended audio input, visual, resolution, frame rate, and bitrate. Use YouTube’s current encoder recommendations for the selected output rather than guessing a bitrate. Its guidance specifies AAC or MP3 audio, 128 Kbps for stereo audio, and a recommended two-second keyframe interval.
- Start the encoder and check the preview. Confirm that the preview appears in Live Control Room before making the stream public. Follow the live workflow shown there; depending on the workflow, you may need to start the broadcast from Live Control Room after the encoder connects.
- Run a test before launch. Use a private or unlisted test and check audio, picture, stream access, and playback on the devices your audience is likely to use. Test with sound and motion representative of the real broadcast, not just a still, silent connection.
Set quality and leave room for network variation
Choose resolution, frame rate, and video bitrate from YouTube’s current encoder table and the capacity of your upload connection. For a mostly static visual, a modest frame rate may be sufficient, but the bitrate still needs to match the chosen resolution and encoding settings. YouTube recommends a speed test and 20% upload-bandwidth headroom. A connection that only just matches the encoder’s target bitrate leaves little room for variation.

Use a reliable connection, monitor audio and video continuously, and test any backup encoder or failover configuration before depending on it. A backup is an operational choice, not a universal requirement. YouTube’s guidance recommends testing failover where a backup encoder is configured.

Do not treat the YouTube replay as your only master
YouTube says streams shorter than 12 hours can be automatically archived and recommends making a local recording as backup. Streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all. If retaining a complete replay matters, record locally and check that the file is growing and usable; consider whether shorter scheduled sessions fit your archive needs better than one continuous transmission.

Decide who or what responds to failures
Before leaving the stream unattended, define how you will notice a stopped encoder, network failure, silent audio, frozen picture, or copyright warning, and who will respond. YouTube recommends monitoring and failover testing but does not prescribe one official 24/7 restart architecture. Choose a restart and alerting approach appropriate to your encoder and infrastructure, then deliberately test it before relying on it.
