Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →There are two different ways to put a video from a VPS on YouTube: send it as the feed for a scheduled or active YouTube Live event, or upload it to the channel’s video library. For a live event, use YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room and an encoder. For a normal video, use the YouTube Data API’s videos.insert method with OAuth. The steps below cover both, beginning with the live-stream workflow.
Choose between a live feed and a normal upload
| Your goal | Use this workflow | What viewers get |
|---|---|---|
| Play the video as a scheduled or currently live event | Send it from the VPS to YouTube’s Live Control Room using an encoder, stream URL, and stream key. | A YouTube Live event. YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. |
| Add the video to your channel library | Upload it through the YouTube Data API’s videos.insert method with OAuth authorization. |
A regular channel video, subject to the API project’s status and the privacy setting you choose. |
A VPS is the machine that runs the encoder or upload client; it does not change which YouTube workflow you need. A live feed is not the same as uploading a video to the library, and the API upload method does not create a live event.
Send a prerecorded video as a YouTube Live event from a VPS
1. Confirm the channel can go live
Live streaming must be enabled for the channel. YouTube requires channel verification and no live-streaming restrictions in the preceding 90 days. First-time enablement can take up to 24 hours, so check this before the event date. See YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility guidance.
2. Create or schedule the event in YouTube Studio
- Open YouTube Studio and choose Go Live.
- Create a stream or schedule one for a later time. Scheduling gives you an event page you can promote in advance.
- In the Live Control Room, locate the stream URL and stream key for the event. Use the values YouTube provides there; do not assume a URL, protocol, or key from another stream is appropriate.
YouTube Help describes stream keys as “like your YouTube stream’s password and address.” Keep the key private. Anyone who obtains it may be able to send a feed to the associated stream.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
3. Configure the VPS encoder
Install or configure an encoder on the VPS that can read the prerecorded file and send a live feed to YouTube. Enter the stream URL as the server address and the stream key in the encoder’s key field. Prefer RTMPS when the encoder supports it. YouTube describes RTMPS as RTMP over TLS/SSL; obtain the RTMPS address in the Live Control Room rather than treating an ordinary RTMP address as secure. If the encoder reports a connection or SSL error, check the protocol, host, encoder support, and port guidance in YouTube’s live encoder settings.
4. Match the video and audio settings to YouTube’s guidance
YouTube’s current live encoder settings guidance supports H.264, H.265/HEVC, or AV1 video over RTMP/RTMPS, at up to 60 fps. YouTube recommends constant bitrate and a two-second keyframe interval, and says not to exceed four seconds. Audio can use AAC or MP3. Select a bitrate from YouTube’s table for the codec, resolution, and frame rate you actually use, then confirm the VPS has stable outbound bandwidth to sustain it.

| H.264 output | YouTube Help minimum bitrate | YouTube Help recommended bitrate |
|---|---|---|
| 1080p at 30 fps | 5 Mbps | 14 Mbps |
| 1080p at 60 fps | 6 Mbps | 17 Mbps |
| 720p at 30 fps | 3 Mbps | 8 Mbps |
These are YouTube Help configuration recommendations, accessed in 2026—not performance guarantees. Other codecs, resolutions, and frame rates have their own entries in the official settings table. A VPS connection that briefly reaches the target bitrate but cannot sustain it may still produce interruptions or poor stream health.
5. Start the feed, check the preview, then start the event
- Start the encoder on the VPS so it sends the video to YouTube.
- Wait for the feed to appear in the Live Control Room preview. Check picture, audio, and stream health before the event begins.
- For a scheduled event, start the event in the Live Control Room when you are ready. Continue monitoring the preview and stream health while it runs.
Do a test before relying on the setup for a public event. The VPS, encoder configuration, and outbound network all affect whether the feed reaches YouTube reliably; YouTube’s recommended settings do not guarantee your particular VPS will sustain them.

Upload a normal channel video from a VPS instead
For a library upload, use Google’s YouTube Data API videos.insert method and authorize the request with OAuth. The method supports video media up to 256 GB and can set video metadata. Follow Google’s videos.insert reference and video upload guide for the API request and metadata fields.
Use resumable upload for interruption recovery
Google documents resumable uploads for cases where a network interruption would otherwise force you to start over. Initiate a resumable session, save the upload URL returned by Google, send the video media, and, if interrupted, resume from the byte range the server reports. See Google’s resumable upload protocol guide.

Check the API project before expecting public visibility
YouTube says uploads made with videos.insert from unverified API projects created after 28 July 2020 are restricted to private viewing until the project passes an audit. Confirm the project’s audit status and the intended privacy setting before building an automated public-publishing workflow; the API method documentation explains this restriction.
Troubleshoot common problems
- The channel cannot start a live stream: Check channel verification and whether a live-streaming restriction occurred within the past 90 days. If live streaming was enabled for the first time, allow up to 24 hours for activation.
- The encoder cannot connect: Compare its server address and key with the current event’s Live Control Room values. If using RTMPS, verify the encoder supports it and check the correct host and port guidance in YouTube’s encoder settings help.
- The preview is missing or stream health is poor: Confirm the encoder is sending, then check that codec, resolution, frame rate, bitrate, and keyframe interval follow YouTube’s guidance. Also check whether the VPS has stable outbound bandwidth for the selected bitrate.
- The live picture works but audio does not: Check the encoder’s audio input and confirm it is using an accepted audio codec such as AAC or MP3. Verify audio in the Live Control Room preview before starting the event.
- A library upload stops partway through: Use the resumable upload flow, retain the session URL, and query the server for the reported byte range before resuming the transfer.
- An API-uploaded video remains private: Check whether the API project was created after 28 July 2020 and has passed YouTube’s audit. An unverified project in that category is restricted to private uploads.
Or let it run in the cloud
If your goal is to keep prerecorded videos playing on a YouTube channel without maintaining your own VPS encoder, StreamNeo is a cloud service: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. It loops the uploaded videos from the cloud, so no computer or home connection has to stay on.
