To play prerecorded videos one after another during a YouTube livestream, use OBS Studio’s VLC Video source: add your local video files in the desired order, turn off shuffle, and choose whether the playlist should loop. Reordering a regular YouTube playlist does not feed those videos into your live broadcast. The OBS workflow is the same for creators in India; the important distinction is whether you want to control playback on your computer or have a cloud service play uploaded videos for you.
Why a YouTube playlist does not control your live stream
A YouTube playlist is a way to organize and reorder videos for playback as a playlist. YouTube Help explains that you can change the order by dragging videos, but that does not make the playlist the video input for your outgoing livestream. To show prerecorded clips in a live broadcast, you need to send their playback through streaming software or use a hosted service designed for prerecorded livestreams.
There is also a technical use of the word “playlist” in YouTube’s HLS ingestion documentation: a media playlist describes how YouTube reassembles segments of an encoded live stream. That is not a creator-facing queue of finished videos.
Play local videos in order with OBS and VLC
For local files, OBS’s VLC Video source provides the multi-file playlist control needed here. OBS requires VLC to be installed; if you use 64-bit OBS, install 64-bit VLC as well. For one video rather than a sequence, OBS’s Media Source can add a video file to a scene, but it does not provide the same multi-item playlist control.

- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
- Install OBS Studio and VLC. Match the 64-bit versions when using 64-bit OBS. See the OBS VLC Video Source guide for the source requirements and controls.
- Open or create your broadcast scene. In OBS, select the scene you intend to use for the livestream. Add a source and choose VLC Video.
- Add the files in playback order. In the source’s playlist controls, add the video files and arrange them from first to last. Leave Shuffle Playlist off so the files play in the configured sequence.
- Choose what happens at the end. Turn on Loop Playlist if you want the sequence to start again after the last file. Leave it off if playback should end when the final file finishes.
- Check the scene before broadcasting publicly. Run a private or unlisted rehearsal and confirm that video and audio play as expected, the files advance in the intended order, and the loop behavior matches your plan.
- Connect OBS to YouTube and go live. Use YouTube’s live-stream setup to connect your encoder and start the broadcast. Keep the OBS scene with the VLC Video source active while you want the playlist to be the live picture.
Use only video you have rights to stream
YouTube scans live broadcasts for third-party matches. Its Help page states: “All live streams are scanned for matches to third-party content, including copyrighted content in the form of another live broadcast.” — YouTube Help, “Copyright issues with live streams”.
If YouTube identifies third-party content, a placeholder may replace the stream; continued use can lead to interruption or termination. If you have a license for third-party material, YouTube says the rights holder may still need to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist. A license by itself does not guarantee that a live stream will avoid interruption. Use music, footage, and other material only when your rights cover the livestream.

If you prefer a hosted prerecorded playlist
Restream documents a hosted workflow in which users upload or select multiple videos, arrange them by drag-and-drop, and stream the playlist. Its help page ties access to specified Upload & Stream add-on tiers, including Marathon or Media. Plan packaging can change, so check Restream’s current plan details before relying on the feature. This is a hosted option rather than the OBS-and-VLC local-file workflow.
