Valencia centre-back César Tárrega returned to team training on Friday, 2 October 2026, while recovering from a right hamstring injury. Reports differed on whether he took part partially or completed a normal session, and neither confirmed that he was cleared to play.
What happened in Tárrega’s recovery
Valencia CF’s official medical report on 14 September diagnosed an injury to Tárrega’s right hamstring muscle group, sustained during the match against Sevilla. The club said he would receive medical, physiotherapy and rehabilitation care at its training ground until his clinical condition improved enough for him to rejoin the team. EFE reported that Tárrega was forced off during the Sevilla match on 11 September with hamstring discomfort. A later RotoWire account said he went off around the 23rd minute and attributed confirmation of a hamstring injury to coach Carlos Corberán; that account is secondary reporting, while the club’s 14 September report is the official diagnosis. What “trains normally” means—and what is confirmed
On 2 October, EFE said Tárrega completed part of the team session, describing it as his first participation with teammates during recovery. RotoWire characterized the session as completed “in total normality,” citing El Partit de La Una. Those descriptions do not establish the same level of participation, so the supported update is that Tárrega returned to team training; whether he completed a full or normal session remains unclear. Training with teammates is not the same as medical clearance, match fitness or selection. Neither report confirmed that Tárrega would play in a subsequent match.
Was Tárrega expected back for Valencia’s 11 October match?
On 11 October, EFE reported that Valencia hoped to recover Tárrega and Mouctar Diakhaby for the match against Racing de Santander at El Sardinero. That was a club target, not confirmation that Tárrega had been selected, cleared to play or given a particular amount of playing time. EFE’s 11 October report
