Motadata Builds the Data Layer First With ObserveOps Infinity

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Motadata announced ObserveOps Infinity as generally available in August 2026, positioning its observability pipeline as a layer between telemetry sources and storage. The pipeline is described as parsing, masking, enriching, and applying retention policies to incoming data before it is stored. That architecture is the basis for the “data layer first” framing; it does not, by itself, establish lower operating costs or safer automation.

What “data layer first” means in ObserveOps Infinity

An observability pipeline processes telemetry as it moves from monitored systems toward storage and analysis. Motadata describes ObserveOps Infinity’s pipeline as a control plane between sources and stores. At ingest, it parses logs, events, traps, and flows into structured fields, masks data in motion, and adds context such as configuration item, site, owner, and service. Retention is policy-driven. Motadata says the pipeline is included in the base platform rather than sold as a separate SKU. Motadata’s launch announcement

The practical idea is to govern data before it reaches its destination: structure it for analysis, protect selected information, and attach operational context. Whether that improves storage efficiency or incident response for a particular organization depends on its telemetry, policies, topology, and configuration.

What is included, and what is still planned?

Motadata says event correlation, anomaly detection, and runbook automation ship in the base platform. It describes agentic capabilities as planned releases on the same platform and license—not as features already generally available. The launch material does not establish which future agentic functions will be offered, what actions they may take, or what approval controls will apply. Buyers evaluating automation should ask Motadata which functions are live now, which require human approval, and how permissions and audit trails work.

Deployment choices and resilience

Motadata’s deployment guide documents several layouts. The right one depends on where data is collected, how application and storage should be separated, and what security and availability requirements apply. Motadata deployment documentation

Topology Documented arrangement Considerations
Single-box The ObserveOps application and MotaStore database share a virtual machine or bare-metal server. Consolidates application and storage on one host; assess capacity and any separation requirements.
Distributed The application and MotaStore run on separate physical or virtual machines. The guide associates this arrangement with security or policy requirements; plan connectivity and resource needs between components.
Multi-site A central application and database receive data from collectors at remote sites, with visualization centralized at the main site. Plan collector placement, remote connectivity, site distances, and retention needs.

The guide also describes high-availability and disaster-recovery configurations using elements such as primary and secondary components, observer synchronization, virtual IPs, and heartbeat exchange. Some disaster-recovery failovers involve manual actions, so the presence of an HA or DR design should not be taken to mean every failover is automatic. Follow the procedure for the selected topology and establish which steps are automated.

Topology maps depend on how data is collected

For network topology, Motadata documents scheduled or on-demand scanning that queries neighbors over supported Layer 2 or Layer 3 protocols. Cloud, virtualization, SDN, and HCI maps instead use collected polling data; relevant monitors need to be discovered, configured, and actively returning data. Documented examples include AWS and Azure; VMware ESXi and vCenter, Proxmox VE, KVM, Citrix Xen, and Hyper-V; Cisco Catalyst SD-WAN and Cisco ACI; and Nutanix. These are examples in the documentation, not a guarantee of complete or current compatibility. Motadata topology documentation

For application performance monitoring, the documentation describes traces collected with MotaAgent and shown in overview dashboards, transaction summaries, and flame charts. It lists Java, .NET, PHP, Node.js, Python, and Go support. Validate the current agent, framework, and version matrix for the actual application environment before relying on a compatibility claim. How the single-edition packaging is metered

Motadata says Infinity replaces four earlier editions with one edition. The launch describes monitored devices as a metering basis and says optional Flow, Log, NCCM, APM, and RUM modules have their own units; Log and Flow are counted per source and exporter. Security controls and the pipeline are described as part of the base platform. The launch material gives no rate card, contract minimum, or complete worked example, so the metering description is not enough to calculate a price or compare total cost.

For a quote, ask how the vendor defines a device, counts sources and exporters, measures optional module units, handles retention and bursts, and prices the chosen deployment topology and support. Request an example based on the organization’s actual inventory and expected telemetry volume.

What the hardware-efficiency claim does—and does not—show

Motadata says an equivalent deployment may require 30% to 40% less hardware. The company calls this an indicative range that varies with workload, device mix, retention, and topology, and says deployments are sized against its sizing matrix. The launch material provides no independent benchmark, test methodology, or named customer deployment to verify the figure. Treat it as a vendor claim, not a guaranteed saving or a substitute for sizing the intended architecture. Motadata’s launch announcement

Motadata CEO Amit Shingala said: “Global hardware prices went one way and the industry passed that through to the customer. We asked our engineering team to treat that bill as our own design constraint,” The statement explains the design motivation; it is not independent evidence of the claimed hardware reduction.

Questions to resolve before choosing a topology or license

  • Which components must be separated for security, policy, or operational reasons?
  • How many sites need collectors, and what connectivity is available between them and the central system?

  • Which HA and DR steps are automatic, and which require an operator during failover?
  • How are devices, sources, exporters, module units, bursts, and support counted in the proposed contract?
  • Which agentic capabilities are available now, and what approval, permission, and audit controls apply?
