For regular ChatGPT use without frequent limits or a need for Pro-only access, Plus at $20 per month is the sensible starting point. Pro is worth considering when its higher included usage or Pro models materially help with valuable work. OpenAI currently lists three Pro tiers—$100, $200 and $500 per month—with different allowances; only Pro 500 includes Ultrafast. Check the plan details shown for your account before subscribing, because access and allowances change.

These are monthly prices on OpenAI’s current Plus information page and Pro tiers page. OpenAI announced Pro 500 on September 29, 2026, and describes Ultrafast as exclusive to that tier among Pro plans in its release notes.

What do you get with each subscription?
Plus: broader access for everyday work
OpenAI describes Plus as offering priority access during high-traffic periods, higher model limits than Free, faster responses, voice conversations, image generation, file uploads and analysis, and Deep Research where available. It also provides access to reasoning options available to the account. Model availability and limits can vary with system conditions and change during rollouts.
Pro: more usage and Pro-specific access
The listed Pro features include Pro models, Codex, Deep Research, image creation, memory and file uploads. The feature list overlaps with Plus, so the useful distinction is not simply the presence of familiar tools: consider whether you need a Pro model or more included usage, and whether a specific tier’s allowance meets your work pattern.

Is Pro unlimited?
No subscription label guarantees unlimited use of every model. OpenAI says model limits depend on the plan and model. Its model-limit guidance specifically cautions that Pro does not include unlimited use of GPT-6 Pro. If you reach a Pro-model allowance, that model may become temporarily unavailable until the allowance resets; you can use another available model or wait. OpenAI also says support cannot reset ChatGPT or Codex limits.
Which plan fits your usage?
Choose Plus if you seldom run into limits
Start with Plus if its listed tools cover your tasks and interruptions from usage limits are rare. At $20 per month, it costs substantially less than the listed Pro tiers. There is no official universal usage threshold at which Pro becomes worthwhile.

Consider Pro 100 if you need Pro access regularly
Pro 100 may fit if a Pro model or substantially higher usage allowance matters often enough to justify the $100 monthly price, and Ultrafast is not a requirement. Check the allowance currently displayed for your account before deciding.
Check the details carefully before choosing Pro 200
OpenAI says new Pro 200 subscriptions have a lower included usage allowance than the previously offered allowance. Qualifying existing subscribers can keep the prior allowance through October 29, 2026, provided the subscription stays active. That transitional treatment does not upgrade the plan or add Ultrafast. Confirm your eligibility and the current allowance on the Pro tiers page.

Choose Pro 500 only when its added capacity matters
Pro 500 costs $500 per month and has the highest included usage among the listed Pro tiers. It is also the only Pro tier with Ultrafast. Consider it only if those specific benefits are useful enough to your work to justify that recurring cost.
How to decide whether the extra cost pays off
- Track actual interruptions. For a representative stretch of work, note when an allowance stops you, which model or tool you were using, and whether waiting or switching models was acceptable.
- Identify what you actually need. Separate routine access to voice, image generation, file analysis or Deep Research from a specific need for Pro models, Codex, higher usage or Ultrafast.
- Estimate the value of fewer interruptions. Ask whether the additional access would save enough time or support valuable work to justify the recurring price difference. This is a personal decision method, not an OpenAI-published break-even calculation.
- Verify the current plan terms before upgrading. Check the price, allowance, feature availability and any eligibility conditions shown for your account; tiers and access have changed recently.
Does Plus or Pro include API usage?
No. OpenAI’s Plus information says API usage is separate and billed independently. Do not subscribe to Plus or Pro to cover API charges.
