Fizz says a recent RCS platform upgrade now aligns message delivery with each customer’s plan, and that RCS requires its unlimited-texting option. Multiple subscribers have reported losing RCS, but those reports do not establish how many people are affected or prove a single cause for every case.
What Fizz says changed
In a report published October 2, 2026, iPhone in Canada said Fizz customers had reported that RCS stopped working, including some Android users whose plans did not include unlimited texting. Fizz told the publication that RCS support had long been tied to its texting option. It said it recently updated its FAQ after upgrading the RCS platform to support messaging between Android and iPhone users.
Fizz says RCS requires its unlimited-texting option because the plans that include texting offer unlimited messages. The company acknowledged that some Android users may previously have been able to use RCS without that plan feature. A Fizz spokesperson, whose name and role were not provided, said: “The updated version of the platform ensures reliable delivery of the feature in accordance with the customer’s plan.”
These are customer reports, not a confirmed network-wide outage or a verified incident count. The reports also do not establish whether a particular customer lost RCS because of plan eligibility, device setup, or a line-provisioning issue. Fizz’s general service status page says its services are fully functional; that broad status does not rule out an individual RCS problem.

Does Fizz now require unlimited texting for RCS?
Fizz’s current position, as reported October 2, 2026, is that customers need the plan’s texting option, which it describes as unlimited texting on eligible plans. Its Android RCS FAQ lists a mobile plan including texting, mobile data or Wi-Fi, a compatible Android phone, and an updated Google Messages app as prerequisites. Fizz’s statement to iPhone in Canada clarifies that it interprets the texting requirement as the unlimited-texting option.
How to troubleshoot RCS on Fizz
1. Check the plan’s texting option
Confirm that your Fizz plan includes the texting option required by Fizz. If it does not, Fizz says a plan change adding SMS takes effect at the start of the next billing cycle. Its SMS FAQ says plan adjustments must be made up to 72 hours before the cycle ends, so a change may not restore RCS immediately.

2. Check the phone, app, and connection
- Make sure the Android phone is compatible with RCS.
- Update Google Messages.
- Confirm that the phone has access to mobile data or Wi-Fi.
Fizz’s community moderator guidance from July 2025 also recommended rebooting, updating network settings, or trying the SIM in another device. That post listed Android 5.0 or higher, but it is historical guidance, not confirmation of Fizz’s current supported-device policy.
3. Restart or test the SIM in another compatible phone
Restart the phone. If practical, place the Fizz SIM in another compatible phone and check RCS there. This can help distinguish a handset-specific problem from one related to the line or plan, although it does not by itself identify the cause.

4. If you switched phones, deactivate RCS on the old one
If you moved your number from another Android phone, Fizz advises turning off RCS on the old device or using Google’s RCS deactivation form. This can help when the number is still registered to the previous handset.
5. Contact Fizz if the checks do not help
If your plan qualifies and the device, app, and connection checks do not resolve the issue, contact Fizz support to ask about the line’s RCS eligibility or provisioning. A new phone or accessory will not fix a plan eligibility or carrier-side provisioning change.
