To save an entire webpage as an image on a computer, use Chrome DevTools: open the page, open DevTools, turn on Device Mode, choose Capture a full size screenshot from the Device Mode More options menu, and save the downloaded image. For only the visible area, choose Capture screenshot. On Android, use Chrome’s Share > Long screenshot flow. If you need an editable offline page or a document rather than an image, use Save page as or Android’s Save as PDF option instead.
Choose the kind of saved copy you need
“Save a webpage screenshot” can mean several different outputs. Pick the one that matches your purpose before opening a menu.

A full-page screenshot is a flat image: text is not automatically selectable, links do not remain clickable, and very long pages can produce a large file. A saved webpage or PDF is usually better when you need search, selectable text, or a document layout.
Save a full-page screenshot in Chrome on a computer
Chrome’s official Device Mode workflow provides separate commands for the viewport and the entire page. Device Mode approximates a mobile device for layout testing; it does not turn your computer into a physical phone.

- Open the target page. Wait for the content you want to preserve to appear. If the site loads sections only after interaction, perform that interaction first.
- Open DevTools. Use Chrome’s developer-tools command for your operating system, or open the browser menu and choose the developer-tools entry. DevTools usually opens docked beside or below the page.
- Enable Device Mode. In DevTools, select the device-shaped Toggle device toolbar control. The page will be shown in a responsive viewport.
- Open Device Mode More options. This is the three-dot menu in the device toolbar, not the ordinary Chrome page menu.
- Choose the capture command. Select Capture a full size screenshot for the complete page. Select Capture screenshot when you want only the currently simulated viewport. Google’s documentation describes the full-page choice as capturing “the whole page including the content that isn’t visible in the viewport.” See the Chrome DevTools Device Mode documentation (last updated 2024-02-20 UTC).
- Locate the downloaded image. Chrome’s download destination depends on your browser settings and operating system. Check the Downloads shelf or the folder shown in Chrome’s download history rather than assuming a fixed filename or path.
Make the capture reflect the page you actually want
- Select a suitable viewport. Device Mode’s width and height affect responsive breakpoints, navigation menus, and typography. A page may look different at a desktop width than at a phone width.
- Wait for lazy content. Scroll through the page once if images or sections appear only as they enter view, then return to the top before capturing. A full-size command can include content that has loaded in the document, but it cannot capture an image that the site never requested.
- Close transient UI. Dismiss cookie dialogs, newsletter forms, video controls, and chat panels when you want a clean record. If the overlay is part of what you are documenting, leave it open.
- Check sticky elements. Headers fixed to the viewport may appear repeatedly or obscure content in a long capture. If the page offers a reader mode or print layout, compare that output before relying on the screenshot.
- Capture after the final state. Expand accordions, choose the required tab, or sign in only when you are authorized to do so. A screenshot records the visible result, including any private information displayed in the browser.
Capture a long screenshot in Chrome on Android
Chrome documents a dedicated long-screenshot sharing flow on Android. Its presence and labels can vary by Chrome version and Android device, so update Chrome and check the menus if you do not see the option.
- Open the webpage in Chrome.
- Tap More next to the address bar.
- Tap Share.
- Choose Long screenshot.
- Drag the crop handles to include the amount of the page you need. You can make the image longer than the current screen.
- Tap Confirm, then choose the Android save or share destination.
This is a phone sharing feature, not the same interface documented for desktop DevTools. The Android help instructions do not establish that the identical control exists on desktop or iPhone.
When a screenshot is the wrong format
Save the webpage on a computer
For an offline page copy rather than a picture, open Chrome’s ordinary page menu and choose More tools > Save page as. Chrome’s help documentation covers this route. The result is a saved webpage representation and associated resources; it is not a single image and may not reproduce interactive or server-generated content exactly.

Save a PDF on Android
When you need a paginated document, open Chrome’s print flow on Android and choose Save as PDF in print preview. PDF output can be easier to print, search, and share than a very tall image, but its pagination and styling may differ from the live page.

A screenshot is a visual record, not proof that the underlying page will remain unchanged. Keep the page URL, capture date, and (where appropriate) a PDF or saved-page copy alongside the image. Redact passwords, personal data, account numbers, and private messages before sharing.
Troubleshooting Chrome screenshot capture
“Capture a full size screenshot” is missing
Confirm that DevTools is open, Device Mode is enabled, and you are opening the three-dot menu inside the device toolbar. The command is not a universal button in Chrome’s ordinary page menu. If the toolbar is narrow, widen DevTools or open its overflow controls.

The image stops before the bottom
Some pages change their DOM while Chrome is measuring or loading the capture. Let network activity settle, scroll through the page to trigger lazy images, and retry from the top. Infinite-scroll pages have no stable bottom; load the desired amount first, then capture.
Images are blank or missing
Check that the images have loaded in the page itself. Disable extensions that block resources, test without an ad or script blocker, and wait for delayed media. Cross-origin restrictions or a site’s own delivery logic can prevent an image from rendering even though surrounding text is visible.

Close the overlay before capture, or include it deliberately if it is part of your record. If it returns on every reload, use the site’s consent controls or a clean browser profile; do not enter information you do not want stored.

The layout looks like a phone
That is expected when Device Mode is set to a mobile preset. Choose a wider custom width or desktop-like preset if you need the desktop responsive layout. Device Mode approximates a device viewport; it is not a substitute for testing on physical hardware.
The Android Long screenshot option is unavailable
Availability depends on the Chrome and Android builds. Update both where possible, use the documented More > Share path, and check whether your device manufacturer supplies a system scrolling-screenshot tool. On desktop, use DevTools instead; the Android interface is not documented as a desktop feature.
The file is too large to send
Crop to the relevant section, reduce the image dimensions in an editor, or choose PDF when a document is acceptable. PNG preserves sharp text but can be large; a compressed image format may be easier to share at the cost of some detail.
