On desktop Chrome: open DevTools, press Ctrl+Shift+P (Windows/Linux) or Cmd+Shift+P (Mac), search for “screenshot,” and choose Capture full size screenshot. The desktop command is described in a Chrome Community answer rather than an official Chrome Help article, so its availability can vary by Chrome version.
Choose the right capture method
Your platform and the result you need determine the best route:

Google Chrome Help says Android users can take “screenshots that extend longer than your screen.” The official Android instructions are documented here. The desktop full-size workflow below comes from a March 2025 Chrome Community response, not from a formal desktop Chrome Help procedure.
Capture a full web page on Android Chrome
- Open Chrome and load the page you want to capture. Wait until the content you need is visible and finished loading.
- Tap More (the three-dot menu).
- Tap Share.
- Choose Long screenshot. If this option is not shown, your device, Chrome build or Android version may not support the documented flow.
- Drag the crop handles to include the exact portion of the page you need. The handles let you shorten the capture as well as extend it below the visible screen.
- Tap Confirm, then choose an app to share the image or save it to your device.
These steps and the crop-handle behavior are from Google’s Android Chrome Help page. They apply to Chrome on Android, not to desktop Chrome.

When the long screenshot is incomplete
- Scroll through the page once before starting if images or sections load only after scrolling.
- Wait for banners, embeds and fonts to finish loading; otherwise the captured page can differ from what you see after it settles.
- If a page keeps changing while you capture it, close animated overlays or try again after the layout stops moving.
Capture a full-page image on desktop Chrome
Desktop Chrome’s commonly reported method uses DevTools. Because the supporting instructions are community guidance, the command name or availability may differ in your version.
- Open the target page in Chrome.
- Open DevTools with F12 or Ctrl+Shift+I on Windows/Linux. On Mac, use Cmd+Option+I.
- Open the DevTools command menu: press Ctrl+Shift+P on Windows/Linux or Cmd+Shift+P on Mac, as reported in the Chrome Community thread.
- Type screenshot in the command field.
- Select Capture full size screenshot.
- Wait for Chrome to finish processing the page, then check the location Chrome uses for downloaded files.
The command captures the page beyond the visible viewport. The retrieved guidance does not establish a universal maximum page length, image dimension or file-size limit, and it does not document an equivalent crop-handle step for desktop.
If “Capture full size screenshot” is missing
- Make sure DevTools is open and that you used the command menu, not the normal browser address bar.
- Search for full size or screenshot again; command labels can change between Chrome releases.
- Restart Chrome and retry on a normal webpage rather than a browser-internal page such as the settings screen.
- Check Chrome’s version and confirm the command is available in the current release. The community answer is not an official guarantee for every build.
Save a webpage instead of making an image
If your goal is to keep a page that can be reopened, searched or inspected later, use Chrome’s page-saving feature:
- Open the page on desktop Chrome.
- Select More → More tools → Save page as.
- Choose a filename and destination, then save.

Control what appears in the capture
Android crop control
The documented Android flow provides crop handles before confirmation. Use them to exclude browser UI, an unrelated header or content below the section you need.
Desktop page boundaries
The community-described desktop command is a full-size capture. The sources do not establish a built-in crop dialog or a clipboard destination. A Chrome Community user reported a PNG saved in Downloads in October 2023, but that is one user’s report and should not be treated as a guaranteed file type or location for every configuration (community thread).
Troubleshooting common failures
The Android Long screenshot option is not present
The official instructions are Android-specific. Update Chrome and Android where your device permits, then reopen the Share sheet. If the option still does not appear, your device or software build may not expose it; use a normal viewport screenshot or a desktop/API workflow instead.
The image stops before the bottom of the page
Lazy-loaded images, delayed scripts and expanding sections can change page height during capture. Scroll through the page first, wait for network activity and animations to settle, and run the capture again.

The desktop capture contains a blank section
Reload the page, wait for fonts and images, and retry. For pages requiring sign-in, confirm that the session is still authenticated in the tab where DevTools is open. A blank result can also indicate a page that blocks or replaces content when automated capture is detected.
The result is too large to share
Desktop full-page images can become very tall. Crop the image after capture, use Android’s crop handles before saving, or capture only the section needed for the task. No authoritative maximum dimensions or file-size limit is established by the cited Chrome guidance.
I need the screenshot on the clipboard
The cited desktop instructions describe a capture command and download behavior; they do not establish a clipboard option. Save the file first, then open it in an image editor or paste it into the destination application if that application supports file insertion.
