Choose the Safari PDF method that matches your goal

Safari saves a rendered snapshot. A PDF does not preserve every interactive behavior, such as forms, live menus, video controls, or scripts that run after the capture.
Save a webpage as a PDF on a Mac
Method 1: Export directly from Safari
- Open the page in Safari and wait until its text, images, and lazy-loaded sections have finished loading.
- Choose File > Export as PDF if that command appears in your Safari version.
- Enter a filename, select a destination, and choose Save.
The save dialog determines the file’s location. If you choose Desktop, Downloads, or a folder in iCloud Drive, the PDF will be there rather than in a special Safari folder. Menu names can vary by macOS and Safari release; use the print route below if Export as PDF is not shown.
Method 2: Use the macOS print sheet
- With the webpage open, choose File > Print, or press Command-P.
- Set the printer, paper size, orientation, scale, and other options. In the page range controls, choose all pages or specify a range.
- Change color options if your print sheet offers them. You can also adjust pages per sheet when that setting is available.
- Click the PDF button in the lower-left corner of the print sheet.
- Choose Save as PDF, name the file, select its folder, and click Save.
This route is useful when a full export is not available or when you need only pages 3–6, a monochrome copy, or a particular pages-per-sheet layout. The options you select affect the resulting PDF.

Make sure the Mac capture is complete
- Scroll through important sections once before exporting so deferred images and content have a chance to load.
- Dismiss overlays that obscure the page. A cookie dialog, newsletter panel, or chat widget can become part of the rendered output.
- Keep the tab open until the save operation finishes. Navigating away before the print preview is rendered can produce an incomplete file.
Save a webpage as a PDF on iPhone
Standard Share or Page Menu workflow
- Open the webpage in Safari.
- Tap the Page Menu button. In layouts where the toolbar is at the top or bottom, you can tap Share instead.
- Tap Markup.
- Use the markup tools to highlight, draw, write notes, or leave the page unchanged.
- Tap Done, choose Save File To, enter a filename, select a folder in Files, and tap Save.
This creates an annotated or unannotated PDF that you can share later from the Files app. If you cannot see Markup immediately, swipe through the share-sheet actions or tap the more-actions control.
Capture the entire scrolling page
Use Full Page when the ordinary Markup export contains only the currently rendered view but you need the complete article.
- In Safari, take a screenshot using your iPhone’s hardware screenshot buttons.
- Tap the screenshot thumbnail before it disappears.
- At the top of the editor, select Full Page.
- Review the page preview and use the crop controls if needed.
- Tap Done, then choose Save PDF to Files and select a destination.
The result is a multi-page PDF of the captured scrollable page. Very long pages can create large files, and content that was never loaded before the screenshot may still be absent.
Save a webpage as a PDF on iPad
Share and Markup
- Open the page in Safari and tap Share.
- Tap More, then choose Markup.
- Add annotations if required and tap Done.
- Choose Save File To, name the PDF, select a Files location, and tap Save.
Alternative share-sheet PDF action
Some iPadOS versions expose a direct format selector. Tap Share > Options, select PDF, tap Done, then choose Save to Files and a destination. If Options does not offer PDF, use the Markup route.

Full-page iPad capture
Take a Safari screenshot, tap its preview, select Full Page, then choose Done > Save PDF to Files. This is the better choice for a long page that must remain in one scrolling document rather than a PDF of only the visible viewport.
Where Safari saves the PDF
Safari does not impose one universal PDF folder. The location is the folder you select in the save dialog or Files picker.
- Mac: Check the destination shown in the Export or Save dialog, commonly Downloads, Desktop, Documents, or an iCloud Drive folder. In Finder, search for the filename and set the kind filter to PDF if you have forgotten the location.
- iPhone and iPad: Open the Files app, tap Browse, and look in the location selected during Save File To, such as On My iPhone/iPad or iCloud Drive. Use the filename search field if necessary.
Renaming the file before saving makes it easier to find and avoids generic names when you save several pages from the same site.
How to get a clean, complete PDF
Wait for dynamic content
Modern pages often load images, charts, and article sections only as you scroll. Wait for the page to finish loading, then scroll through the relevant sections before exporting. A PDF cannot include content that Safari had not rendered yet.

Handle overlays and consent dialogs
Close cookie notices, newsletter prompts, and chat bubbles when possible. If a dialog blocks the page, the print preview or screenshot can preserve the obstruction exactly as displayed.
Choose export versus Full Page
- Use Mac printing when you need page ranges, paper formatting, monochrome output, or pages per sheet.
- Use Markup when notes and highlights are part of the deliverable.
- Use Full Page on iPhone or iPad when the requirement is the entire scrollable page.
Remember what a PDF cannot do
Links may remain clickable, but a PDF is still a snapshot. Login sessions, interactive filters, autoplay media, embedded applications, and live data will not behave like the original webpage.
Troubleshooting Safari PDF saves
Export as PDF is missing on Mac
Use File > Print and choose PDF > Save as PDF. The print sheet is the reliable fallback across Safari and macOS variations.
The PDF is blank or missing images
Return to the page, wait for loading to finish, and scroll through image-heavy sections. Check that a content blocker or network interruption has not prevented resources from loading, then print or export again.

The output contains only one screen on iPhone or iPad
The standard Share/Markup export may reflect the current rendered page view. For a long article, create a screenshot first and choose Full Page in the screenshot editor.
Full Page is not offered
Full Page appears for supported content in Safari’s screenshot editor. If it is unavailable, use the Share/Markup PDF workflow or save the page from a Mac using the print sheet.
The file is too large to share
On a Mac, print fewer pages, reduce image-heavy content where the print settings allow it, or create separate PDFs by page range. On iPhone or iPad, crop the Full Page capture to the necessary area before saving.
Annotations disappeared
Confirm that you tapped Done in Markup and then completed Save File To. Opening the original webpage again will not show annotations; they are stored in the PDF in Files.

- Wait for the page and lazy-loaded sections to finish rendering.
- Close cookie, newsletter, and chat overlays.
- On Mac, use Export as PDF or Print > PDF > Save as PDF.
- On iPhone/iPad, use Share/Page Menu > Markup for an annotated PDF.
- For the whole scrolling page, choose Full Page from the screenshot editor.
