To get every page of a multi-page PDF as image files, use a PDF-to-image export or conversion workflow instead: a normal screenshot records the visible screen, not pages below the current view, and Acrobat’s Snapshot tool captures a selected area rather than the whole document.
First decide whether you need a picture of one displayed page, a copy of the PDF itself, or a separate image for each page. Those are different outputs and require different methods.
Choose the right kind of capture
| What you need | What to use | What you get |
|---|---|---|
| A visible page or part of one | Acrobat or Reader Snapshot, or an operating-system screenshot | An image of a selected PDF area or of the screen as displayed |
| The PDF with all its pages intact | Copy the PDF file or use the PDF app’s save or export options | The document, not a screenshot or image sequence |
| An image of every page | A PDF-to-image export or conversion feature | Typically, one image per page; check the chosen app’s output options |
| One tall image containing every page | A tool that explicitly supports stitching or creating a long image | A single composite image, if the tool supports that output |
Do not assume that “full page,” “full screen,” or “Snapshot” means all pages of a PDF. Apple’s Mac screenshot controls capture a screen, window, or selected region. Adobe describes Snapshot as copying a selected area as an image. Neither description promises a stitched image of a multi-page document.
Capture a selected area in Acrobat or Reader
Use Snapshot when you want a particular chart, paragraph, diagram, or visible page area as an image you can paste elsewhere. Adobe’s current Reader help gives this path in the desktop application:

- Open the PDF in the Acrobat Reader application, rather than its browser version.
- Choose Edit > More > Take A Snapshot.
- Drag a rectangle around the content you want and release the mouse or trackpad.
- Switch to the destination application and paste the image.
- Press Esc to leave Snapshot mode when you are done.
The capture is the selected region; it does not automatically include other pages. If the selection needs to include a full page, zoom or adjust the view so that page area is visible, then select it. If the page does not fit on screen, a screen capture cannot include the unseen portion. For a full-page image, use a PDF export or conversion feature that produces page images.
When the Snapshot menu differs
Adobe’s Acrobat support instructions also describe platform-specific menu locations: on Windows, hamburger menu > Undo, Redo & more; on macOS, Edit > Undo, Redo and More, then Take a snapshot. Menu labels can vary by application release. If you cannot find the item, confirm you are in the desktop app and check the app’s current menus rather than expecting the browser viewer to expose the same command.
Adobe also documents printing a selected graphic: take a snapshot, then use Print this file and choose Selected graphic. That is a way to print the selected region; it is not a method for exporting every page to one image.
If copying is blocked
A PDF’s security settings may restrict copying. In Acrobat or Reader, check Document Properties > Security > Document Restrictions Summary. If copying is prohibited, the application may prevent Snapshot or other copying actions. Respect the document’s permissions; if you need an unrestricted copy, ask the document owner for one rather than trying to bypass its restrictions.

Take a screenshot on a Mac
macOS can capture the screen, a window, or a selected region. These keyboard shortcuts capture what is visible, so scroll to the page or area you need before using them:
- Shift-Command-3: capture the entire screen.
- Shift-Command-4: drag to select a screen region.
- Shift-Command-4, then Space: capture a window or menu.
- Shift-Command-5: open the Screenshot app. Apple’s support instructions specify macOS Mojave 10.14 or later for this shortcut.
By default, the screenshot is saved to the desktop. In the Screenshot app, open Options to change the destination. If the PDF is open in a window, a window capture can be convenient, but it records only the window as displayed. It will not scroll through the file or join multiple pages together.
Get every page as an image
If you need raster images of the whole document—for example, one image file for each page—look for a PDF app’s image export function or use a PDF-to-image conversion workflow. Choose an output format and check whether the app exports all pages or only the current page. The available steps and labels depend on the PDF application and operating system, so do not follow instructions for one app as if they apply everywhere.
Before converting, decide what the images are for. PNG is often suitable for diagrams and text where crisp edges matter; JPEG is commonly used for photographic content and smaller files. Those are format trade-offs, not a guarantee about a particular app’s export quality. If the images will be printed or enlarged, check the export resolution. If they will be shared online, also consider file size and whether the document contains information that should not be published.

One image per page or one long image?
Most page-oriented conversion workflows produce a separate image for each PDF page. A single long image that stacks every page is a different deliverable: it requires an explicit stitching or long-image feature. Confirm that the chosen tool supports this before converting. Do not assume a multi-page PDF will become one tall image simply because you selected “export” or “full page.”
Keep or copy the PDF instead of screenshotting it
If your goal is to share or preserve the document, retain the PDF rather than replacing it with screenshots. Adobe documents Edit > Copy File to Clipboard for the entire PDF in the Windows desktop Reader application, not its browser version. This copies a PDF file to the clipboard; it does not create a screenshot or a single image. Security restrictions may prevent copying, so check Document Properties > Security > Document Restrictions Summary if the command is unavailable.
This clipboard command is documented for Windows Reader. Do not assume the same menu path or behavior is available on macOS, in a browser, or in every Acrobat edition. If your immediate need is simply to move or share the file, use the app’s save or share workflow where available.
Or skip the browser setup
If what you actually need is a screenshot of a public web page—not a local PDF converted into images—ScreenshotNeo can return a website capture with one GET request. It is a website screenshot API, not a multi-page PDF-to-image converter. A URL that displays a PDF in a browser is not a documented guarantee of a capture containing every page, so use a PDF export workflow for that result.

Troubleshooting
The screenshot contains only part of the page
That is expected if some of the PDF is outside the visible area. Scroll or adjust the zoom and capture the remaining visible content, or switch to a PDF-to-image export when you need all pages. Separate captures are separate images; they do not combine themselves into one file.
Snapshot is missing or will not copy
Check that you have opened the desktop Acrobat or Reader app, not the browser viewer, and look under the appropriate platform-specific menu. If copying remains unavailable, review the PDF’s security restrictions. A document may prohibit copying.
The result is a PDF, not an image
Edit > Copy File to Clipboard copies the PDF file in Windows desktop Reader. It is not the Snapshot command. To get image files, use Snapshot for a selected area or a PDF-to-image export for page images.
The file has one image per page, but you expected one image
That output is common for page-based conversion. Look for a feature that explicitly creates a long or stitched image if a single composite is essential. If the app does not offer that output, its ordinary page export will not produce it.

The captured area is too small or hard to read
For a screen capture, enlarge the PDF or use the app’s zoom controls before selecting the area. For page-image export, review the resolution settings if the application provides them. A small screen capture cannot recover detail that was not captured at a larger scale.
Which method should you use?
- Use Snapshot for a selected visible portion of a PDF in Acrobat or Reader.
- Use Mac screenshot shortcuts for a visible screen, window, or region.
- Use PDF-to-image export when you need image files for all pages.
- Use a PDF copy or save workflow when you need the original document intact.
- Use a long-image or stitching feature only when you specifically need every page joined into one image.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I screenshot a PDF that is open in a browser?
A screenshot can capture the visible browser window or selected screen area, but the documented Acrobat Snapshot and whole-file clipboard commands in this guide are desktop-app workflows.
Does Acrobat Reader’s Snapshot tool capture all pages?
No. Snapshot captures the selected area as an image; it does not automatically capture or combine every page.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Can I make one image from a multi-page PDF?
Only with a tool or workflow that explicitly supports making a long or stitched image. Ordinary page-image export commonly creates a separate file per page.
