Renders circulated on July 14, 2025 showed what appeared to be DJI’s Mic 3 transmitter and Osmo 360 camera before either product was official. The images, attributed to tipster Igor Bogdanov and reported by Mirrorless Rumors via TechRadar, were not DJI product photography. Both products have since launched, making it possible to separate what the renders actually suggested from what DJI ultimately built.
The short verdict: the leak was directionally accurate about the hardware’s compact shapes, but it could not reveal the more important development—the direct, receiver-free integration between Mic 3 transmitters and the Osmo 360.
What the July 2025 renders showed
The original report described a Mic 3 transmitter visibly smaller than the DJI Mic 2, with a silhouette closer to the compact Mic Mini. A charging case appeared broadly related to the Mic 2 case, and side controls were visible on the transmitter. These were visual observations, not confirmed specifications.
The Osmo 360 render showed a compact, relatively thick rectangular camera with a small display on one side. The images also showed accessories such as a tripod or grip, mounting hardware, a protective case and spare batteries. Their appearance did not establish what would be included in every retail bundle.

TechRadar’s report called the Mic 3 images the first substantial look at that product’s design in its coverage and noted that the Osmo 360 images were consistent with earlier leaks. Consistency between leaks is not independent authentication, however. Product names, launch timing, prices, dimensions, waterproofing, battery life and recording modes were all unconfirmed at that point. Read the original report.
How the Mic 3 compared with the leak
DJI announced the Mic 3 on August 28, 2025. Its transmitter weighs approximately 12.5g, excluding the magnetic clip and magnet, confirming a substantially smaller and lighter design direction than the Mic 2. DJI also retained a full creator-oriented system rather than simply shrinking the hardware.

The released system includes a 1.1-inch touchscreen and dial, magnetic and clip-on wearing options, adaptive gain control, three voice-tone presets and two levels of noise cancellation. It supports up to four transmitters and eight receivers in supported configurations, with four-channel output.

For recording, DJI specifies dual-file 32-bit-float internal recording and integrated timecode. Wireless transmission is advertised as 48kHz/24-bit lossless, with dual-band 2.4GHz and 5GHz anti-interference. DJI’s stated maximum transmission range is up to 400m under its specified conditions—not a guaranteed distance in every location.

Those capabilities were invisible in a render. They are why the final Mic 3 is more than a cosmetic Mic 2 refresh. Full specifications and configurations are listed on DJI’s product page.
How the Osmo 360 compared with the leak
DJI’s first 360-degree camera followed the compact, thick-bodied direction shown in the renders. The final camera offers native 8K 360-degree video, 120MP 360-degree still photos, 10-bit recording and D-Log M. A 4K/120fps, 170-degree Boost Video mode provides a conventional action-camera-style view.

DJI markets its sensor as delivering “1-inch 360° imaging.” That wording should not be simplified into a claim that the camera contains two conventional one-inch sensors. DJI describes a specially designed square HDR sensor that maintains the 360-degree image field associated with a traditional one-inch sensor while increasing sensor utilization by 25%.
DJI states up to 100 minutes of continuous 8K/30fps recording under its specified conditions. The Standard Combo listing shows 105GB of built-in storage; a microSD card is not included. The camera can connect directly to two DJI Mic transmitters without a receiver.

The renders were therefore broadly right about the camera’s compact physical concept, but they could not establish the final imaging architecture, storage or recording claims. See DJI’s Osmo 360 Standard Combo listing.

The bigger story: direct Mic 3 and Osmo 360 audio
OsmoAudio lets the Osmo 360 pair directly with two Mic 3 transmitters, removing the receiver for supported workflows. DJI says the camera can capture the voices of the creator and another person while retaining ambient sound when built-in microphone backup is enabled. That is particularly useful for interviews, travel videos, cycling and other situations where carrying a receiver or hiding cables is inconvenient.
DJI’s compatibility table lists support for transmitter LED indicators, vibration, recording while filming, low-cut filtering, 32-bit-float recording, auto-off, formatting, version information, channel control and assignment, gain, mute, noise cancellation, voice tone, adaptive gain control, file options, startup auto-recording, loop recording, low-power auto-recording and record-stop functions. The transmitter button can also control noise cancellation.
There is an important exception: the compatibility table marks clipping control as unavailable on the Osmo 360. Direct pairing is therefore not identical to using the complete receiver workflow. Test gain behavior before relying on the camera in loud or unpredictable environments. Firmware can change compatibility, so check Mic 3 support downloads and the Osmo 360 release notes.

Prices, bundles and availability
The following U.S. prices were observed on DJI Store pages and can change with region, promotion, variant or catalog updates. Availability also changes; pages viewed for this coverage showed several configurations out of stock.

DJI’s pages have shown different values for individual Mic 3 transmitters, including $84 on the main product page and $99 on a separate listing. Treat those as page-specific observations rather than one universal price. Accessories visible in the leak are not automatically included in the Standard Combo; DJI sells Standard, Essential, Adventure, Vlog, motorcycle, cycling and skiing combinations.
What the leak did—and did not—predict
- Accurate direction: a smaller Mic 3 transmitter, a related charging-case layout and a compact Osmo 360 body.
- Partly accurate: the Mic Mini-like visual impression and the camera’s accessory-oriented design.
- Not established by the renders: sensor construction, 8K modes, storage, battery claims, software, direct audio pairing, bundle contents and final pricing.
- Timing caveat: the July 2025 launch expectation is historical rumor, not a current product-status claim.
The fairest description is “directionally accurate, but incomplete.” The renders were useful for anticipating silhouettes; the official products reveal that workflow integration matters more than the cosmetic changes.
Who should consider the released products?
Mic 3 is a strong fit for
- Two-person interviews and vlogs.
- Osmo 360, Pocket-series and other supported DJI-camera owners.
- Creators needing internal backup recording, 32-bit float or timecode.
- Multi-person productions using up to four transmitters.
Mic 3 is a weaker fit for
- Buyers who need only a basic single-person microphone.
- Users committed to non-DJI cameras who gain little from OsmoAudio.
- Productions requiring identical feature coverage across several camera brands.
- Anyone who needs every receiver feature, including clipping control, while recording directly to an Osmo 360.
Osmo 360 makes sense when
- You want to reframe after capture, invisible-selfie-stick shots or third-person travel and action footage.
- Two-person audio without a receiver is valuable.
- You accept the storage and editing demands of spherical video.
A 360 camera captures the whole sphere, but a reframed view uses only part of it; “8K” does not mean every exported perspective has the same detail as an 8K conventional forward-facing camera. Exposed 360 lenses also require more care than a single protected action-camera lens.
Alternatives and buying context
The Insta360 X5 (official page) is the most direct 360-camera alternative to investigate, particularly for lens protection, reframing software and accessory costs. GoPro’s 360 lineup (official page) may suit existing GoPro users, but compare the current model and firmware rather than assuming older MAX specifications apply.
For audio, discounted DJI Mic 2 (official page) can be sensible for owners who do not need Mic 3’s smaller transmitter and newer workflow. DJI Mic Mini (official page) is the simpler, lower-cost option. RØDE Wireless PRO (official page) is a cross-platform alternative worth comparing for receiver compatibility, onboard recording, timecode and lavalier support.
