How to Share Your Screen During a Telegram Video Call

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Telegram lets you share your screen in both one-to-one and group video calls. Open the call controls, choose your screen as the video source, approve the operating-system prompt, and then select an entire display or a single application when using Telegram Desktop.

Before you start

  • Update Telegram from your device’s official app store or use the current Telegram Desktop client.
  • Start or join the correct call: a private video call, or a group voice/video chat. A normal text-chat view does not itself start a group call.
  • Close password managers, banking pages, private chats and confidential documents.
  • Enable Do Not Disturb or disable notification previews so incoming messages do not appear in the broadcast.
  • Decide whether you need the whole display or only one application. On desktop, a single-window share is usually safer for presentations.
  • Use headphones if you plan to play sound and want to avoid microphone feedback.

Telegram’s official group-call guide describes screen sharing from the video-source controls or the ⋮/⋯ menu, depending on the client version: Telegram group video calls.

How to share your screen on Android

  1. Open the private chat or group and start a video call, or join the group’s active voice/video chat.
  2. Tap the call view to reveal controls if they are hidden.
  3. Tap the camera/video-source button. If it is not visible, open the More menu (⋮).
  4. Select Screen, Share Screen or the equivalent screen icon.
  5. Accept Android’s screen-capture confirmation, which may be labelled Start now or similar.
  6. Return to the home screen and open the app or document you want to show.

The broadcast can continue while you switch away from Telegram. Button names and positions vary by Telegram release and Android manufacturer. Everything visible on the display—including notifications and passwords—can be seen by participants.

How to share your screen on iPhone or iPad

  1. Open Telegram and start or join the video call.
  2. Tap the call window to show the controls.
  3. Tap the video-source/camera button or open the relevant More menu.
  4. Choose Screen.
  5. Confirm the iOS or iPadOS broadcast prompt, such as Start Broadcast. A short countdown may appear.
  6. Leave Telegram or open the app you want to demonstrate.

Follow the system broadcast prompt rather than assuming that an in-app app picker is the same as device-wide screen sharing. If the option is missing, update Telegram and make sure you are in a video-call interface rather than an audio-only call. Telegram documents mobile screen sharing in its feature announcements, including this video-call update.

How to share your screen on Telegram Desktop

  1. Open Telegram Desktop on Windows, macOS or Linux and start or join a one-to-one video call or group voice/video chat.
  2. Open the call controls in the separate call window.
  3. Click the camera/video-source or Share Screen control. If necessary, open More (⋯).
  4. Choose the entire display or a specific application/window.
  5. Enable the audio-sharing checkbox or toggle if it is offered and you want participants to hear computer audio.
  6. Confirm the share.

Telegram officially supports selecting an individual desktop program instead of broadcasting the whole desktop: group video call details. Dialog names and permission prompts can differ between Windows, macOS and Linux releases. Telegram’s desktop guidance also describes calls opening in a separate window and a newly shared screen being pinned automatically: Telegram Tips.

Whole display or one application?

Choice Best for Trade-off
Specific window Slides, documents, software demonstrations and private presentations Other apps and notifications are less likely to be exposed, but content in another window will not be visible.
Entire display Workflows spanning several apps, system settings and multi-window demonstrations Anything visible on the selected display can appear in the call.

Can participants hear the shared audio?

Telegram says screen video can include device sound: Telegram Tips on screen sharing. Actual results depend on the operating system, device, app, audio routing and whether the content is protected. Some services or applications block capture of their audio or video.

  • On desktop, enable Share Audio, Transmit Audio or a similarly named option in the share dialog when available.
  • Ask participants to check their output device and volume.
  • Stop and restart the share if audio does not begin.
  • Try sharing the entire display instead of one window.
  • Use headphones. Playing sound through external speakers while leaving the microphone open can create echo and feedback.

Microphone pickup from speakers is only a fallback; it is not equivalent to a direct device-audio share. Do not attempt to bypass an application’s content-protection restrictions.

Can you share the camera and screen together?

Telegram explicitly documents simultaneous camera and screen sharing in group video calls: Telegram’s group video call announcement. The exact layout and whether both sources are available at once can differ in one-to-one calls and across clients, so use the controls shown in your call.

How to stop screen sharing

  1. Return to the Telegram call window or bring up its controls.
  2. Tap or click the shared-screen preview or the video-source control.
  3. Choose Stop Sharing, Stop Screen Share, or switch the source back to your camera.
  4. If Telegram’s controls are hidden, use the operating system’s active broadcast or screen-recording indicator to end the broadcast.

The exact label is version- and platform-dependent. Verify that the preview has disappeared before opening private material.

Fix Telegram screen sharing when it does not work

Problem What to try
No screen-share button Turn on video, reveal hidden controls, check the video-source and More menus, update Telegram, and use the native app rather than assuming a mobile browser has identical controls.
The option is unavailable in a group Confirm that you joined the group’s active voice/video chat and that your current call role or permissions allow presenting.
Other participants see a black screen Stop and restart sharing; select the whole display instead of a window (or the reverse); keep the selected app open and visible; update Telegram and the operating system; then test with a harmless text editor.
Shared audio is silent Enable the audio toggle, check the participants’ output device and volume, restart the share, try the entire display, and close other apps competing for audio.
Notifications or private data appear Stop sharing, enable Do Not Disturb, close sensitive apps, and choose a specific application window instead of the full display.
The call becomes choppy Close unnecessary apps and browser tabs, use a stronger or wired connection, share one application, turn off your camera if screen content is the priority, and avoid high-motion backgrounds.
Sharing stops unexpectedly Reopen Telegram, reapprove the operating-system screen-recording or broadcast permission, keep the device awake, and start the share again.

Is Telegram screen sharing safe?

Screen sharing is a live broadcast to the people in the call. Participants can see whatever is visible in the selected display or application and may be able to record, photograph or otherwise capture it. Treat the session like an in-person presentation: remove confidential material, hide notification previews, avoid entering passwords while sharing, and prefer a single application window when it contains all the content you need.
