To generate an image with Bing, open Bing Image Creator, sign in with a personal Microsoft Account, describe the image you want, and select Create. Basic creation is free; Microsoft currently lists 15 free fast creations per day, with slower standard creation available afterward. The tool is officially called Bing Image Creator—not Bing Image Search—and its model names and interface can change.
What “Bing AI image generation” means
People often use “Bing AI” as a general name, but the tool for making a new picture from a written description is Bing Image Creator. It is different from Bing Image Search, which finds existing images on the web. Bing Search or Copilot Search may offer a route into image creation, and Microsoft Designer is a related, broader tool for making designed graphics and layouts. The controls can differ between these experiences, so the steps below use the standalone Image Creator site.
Microsoft describes Image Creator as available globally except in Russia and China. That is not a guarantee of identical access for every account or network; regional rules, rollout differences, or network restrictions can affect availability. What you need before you start
- A personal Microsoft Account. Microsoft says work or school Microsoft Entra accounts are not supported for Image Creator.
- A supported browser or the Bing mobile app, plus an internet connection.
- A prompt explaining the image you want to make.
Microsoft advertises basic access as free with a personal account. You do not need Microsoft Rewards to create images at standard speed.

How to generate an image on a computer
- Go to bing.com/create.
- Select Sign in to Create. Sign in with a personal Microsoft Account, or create one if needed.
- Enter a description in the prompt field. Include the subject, what it is doing, the setting, and the visual style you want.
- If a model selector appears, choose one of the models currently offered to your account. If no selector appears, use the default.
- Select Create and wait for the results. Opening a result reveals the controls available in your version of the interface, such as saving, sharing, editing, or animation.
- Choose the closest result. If it misses an important detail, revise the prompt to make that detail clearer and generate again rather than resubmitting identical wording.
Microsoft also describes image creation from Bing Search: enter a phrase such as “create image of …” in the search bar. Because entry points and controls vary, the standalone site is the clearest route when you are getting started.
How to create an image on a phone
- Open the Bing mobile app and find the Bing Image Creator miniapp.
- Select Sign in & Create and authenticate with a personal Microsoft Account.
- Enter your prompt and start creation. Review the results and use the controls shown in the app to save or refine one.
Microsoft’s mobile navigation can change, so do not rely on a particular tab or icon position. If you cannot find the miniapp, try the standalone site in your mobile browser.
How to write a prompt that gives you more control
A prompt is a description for an image model, not a search query. A single word such as “astronaut” leaves the scene largely open to interpretation. Add useful visual constraints with this formula:
Subject + action + setting + style or medium + lighting + composition + mood

For example, instead of “fox,” try: A red fox sitting beside a moss-covered woodland stream at dawn, children’s storybook illustration, soft golden light, three-quarter view, warm colors, detailed foliage, calm and whimsical mood.

Build the prompt with details that matter to the result:
- Subject: a golden retriever puppy.
- Action: running through shallow ocean water.
- Setting: a rocky beach at sunset.
- Style: cinematic wildlife photograph.
- Lighting and composition: warm backlighting, wide shot, low camera angle.
- Mood: joyful and energetic.
If the result is wrong, identify the most important miss and put that requirement earlier in the prompt. Specify position, action, or viewpoint; remove instructions that conflict with one another; then try another variation. Text in images—especially signs, logos, and small labels—may be misspelled or distorted. For a poster or social graphic, consider generating the visual without wording and adding text afterward in a design editor.
Microsoft says Image Creator supports more than 100 languages. Support does not establish equal results in every language. If a difficult visual concept is not coming through, you can try translating key visual terms or writing a clear English version.

The model selector and its names are not necessarily the same for every account. Microsoft’s page has referenced MAI-family models, GPT-4o, and DALL-E 3 in different versions, while newer labels may appear as the lineup changes. Treat the choices shown in your own account as current rather than relying on an old list.
- For a general first attempt, use the default or a current MAI model if one is offered.
- If you are uploading an image to edit, Microsoft describes that workflow as using GPT-4o.
- Microsoft says DALL-E 3 may return multiple images for one creation. If it is offered and you want several variations from a prompt, that behavior may be useful.
These are practical starting points, not a guarantee that one model will produce better results for every prompt. To compare models, use the same prompt and assess the results against your own needs.

How to edit an uploaded image
Where the upload workflow is available, you can provide an image and describe a change—for example, removing clutter, changing a background, applying an illustration style, or requesting a variation. Microsoft says uploaded-image editing uses GPT-4o; DALL-E 3 and MAI-Image-1 cannot be selected in that workflow. The precise upload controls and file requirements should be checked in the live interface.
Only upload images you have permission to use. Avoid confidential documents, sensitive personal information, private faces, or unreleased commercial assets unless you understand the applicable Microsoft privacy and service terms. Do not assume the tool will preserve a person’s identity, text, logos, or exact geometry perfectly.

Microsoft says an Animate image control can turn a finished creation into a short video. This is separate from the basic image workflow, and availability, limits, or Rewards settings may differ. Microsoft documents Bing Image Creator and Bing Video Creator separately, so image-generation allowances should not be assumed to apply to animation.
Current limits, speed, and Microsoft Rewards
Microsoft’s published figures retrieved on August 18, 2026, distinguish fast creations from the overall prompt ceiling. These limits and product terms can change.

If you use Rewards points, check the displayed cost and settings before proceeding. Microsoft says that when points run out, the account returns to standard speed while retaining its daily fast creations.

Why a prompt may be blocked
Microsoft says Image Creator automatically blocks prompts when it detects that they could produce potentially harmful images. A block may be a safety decision, not a loading error.
- For a legitimate request, remove ambiguous wording and state the benign context clearly.
- Do not repeatedly submit near-identical prohibited prompts or try to bypass safety controls.
- If an account is restricted, use Microsoft’s support or concern-reporting process rather than attempting to evade enforcement.
Rephrasing may help clarify a legitimate request, but it cannot guarantee that a blocked prompt will be accepted.
Troubleshooting common problems
The Create button or image tool is missing
Make sure you opened Image Creator rather than Bing Image Search, and sign in with a personal Microsoft Account instead of a work or school account. Go directly to bing.com/create. If the tool still does not appear, access may be affected by your region, network, account, or a changed interface; the Bing app is another route Microsoft documents.
Creation is taking longer than expected
You may have used the free fast allowance and moved to standard speed, or service conditions may be affecting wait times. Standard creation remains available according to Microsoft. You can wait, try later, or use Rewards only if you choose to spend points and the interface displays the cost.
The output does not match the prompt
Move the most important requirement earlier, describe the subject’s position and viewpoint more precisely, and remove conflicting details. Generate a new variation or use editing controls if available. Results can vary; repeated identical prompts do not guarantee a different outcome.

The model selector is absent
That does not necessarily indicate a problem. Model names and availability vary as Microsoft updates the product. Use the default model shown in your account.
An uploaded image cannot be edited
Check that you are signed in and follow the file guidance shown by the live upload interface. Feature availability may depend on account or region. Do not assume a particular file-size limit without checking the current requirements.
Important work is no longer in history
Microsoft says creations may be stored for up to 90 days, not permanently. Download important images promptly. Clearing Bing search history may also clear the Image Creator profile and history; deleting a local downloaded copy is separate from deleting Microsoft-held history. Microsoft describes deletion through Bing search history or the Microsoft privacy dashboard.
Saving, transparency, and use of generated images
Microsoft says generated images include a lower-left watermark and C2PA-based content credentials indicating AI generation. Those credentials provide provenance information; they do not establish that an image is factually accurate or settle copyright questions. Do not present an AI-generated image as a conventional photograph or human-made artwork, and check the rules of the service where you plan to publish it.
Before using an image in advertising, client work, merchandise, or another commercial context, review the current terms that apply to Image Creator and the intended use, as well as relevant law and platform rules. Do not assume that free generation means copyright-free output or automatic permission for commercial use. Microsoft Designer is a related tool for layouts and finished graphics, not a synonym for Image Creator; Microsoft’s consumer terms describe Designer and generated creations as for personal use, not trade or commerce. Review the applicable Designer Image Creator terms and Designer consumer terms before relying on them for a particular use.
