Sonos announced its first headphones, the over-ear Sonos Ace, on May 21, 2024; they went on sale June 5 at a U.S. launch price of $449. Sonos’ U.S. product page listed them at $399 on August 18, 2026. Ace works as a Bluetooth headphone, but its standout feature—sending compatible Sonos soundbar audio to the headphones—requires Sonos home-theater equipment and app setup.
Sonos Ace price and release date
The $450 figure in the original announcement headline rounds the $449 U.S. launch price. Sonos announced Ace on May 21, 2024, and began availability June 5. As checked August 18, 2026, Sonos listed the headphones for $399 in the United States, in Black and Soft White. Prices and availability may differ in other regions or change over time. What Sonos Ace spatial audio does—and does not mean
Spatial audio is not a promise that every stereo Bluetooth track or TV source will become native surround sound. The experience depends on the source, device, and listening mode.

- HEADPHONES | Featuring Dolby Atmos.
- SPATIAL AUDIO | Enjoy an industry-leading Dolby Atmos experience with dynamic head tracking.
- LOSSLESS AUDIO | Stream lossless audio over Bluetooth or via USB-C.
- ACTIVE NOISE CANCELLATION | World-class ANC neutralizes external sounds for maximum immersion.
- ALL-DAY COMFORT | Bespoke fit with plush memory foam, soft vegan leather, and a design that suits all head shapes, hairstyles, and accessories.
Music from supported services
Ace can play spatial-audio music when the service and source device support it. Sonos describes compatible spatial-audio playback on iOS and Android devices; an ordinary Bluetooth connection alone does not guarantee a spatial mix. Sonos’ spatial-audio support information.
TV sound through a compatible Sonos soundbar
With TV Audio Swap, a Sonos home-theater speaker sends audio to Ace. Sonos says compatible surround or Dolby Atmos content can produce a surround experience in the headphones; stereo TV audio can instead be virtualized into a spatial mix. That virtualized stereo is not the same as receiving a native Atmos soundtrack.
Head tracking and TrueCinema
Dynamic head tracking adjusts the perceived soundstage as the listener moves. TrueCinema, added in a later software update, maps the room and aims to recreate the character of a surround-speaker setup through Ace. It is a headphone virtualization feature, not a guarantee of an identical replacement for physically positioned speakers. Sonos’ announcement of later Ace software features.

TV Audio Swap: the Sonos-specific advantage
TV Audio Swap is Ace’s key differentiator for home-theater owners. It is not a general-purpose way to connect the headphones to any television or soundbar: it requires a compatible Sonos home-theater speaker, Ace configured in the Sonos app, and Wi-Fi enabled on that speaker. The supported models Sonos lists are Arc, Arc SL, Arc Ultra, Beam (Gen 1), Beam (Gen 2), and Ray. Sonos’ TV Audio Swap compatibility and setup guide.
Set up TV Audio Swap
- Set up Sonos Ace in the Sonos app, then connect Ace to the iOS or Android device running the app.
- In the app, open Settings and select Sonos Ace under Headphones.
- Under Home Theater, choose Add TV Audio Swap, select the compatible Sonos home-theater speaker, and follow the in-app instructions.
- Turn on the TV and make sure its audio is playing through the Sonos home-theater speaker.
- Press and hold the Content Key on Ace’s right ear cup to move the TV audio to the headphones. The Ace information screen in the app also offers Swap and Join controls.
Listening with one or two headphones
One TV Audio Swap session can include up to two Ace headphones. When two are connected, dynamic head tracking is disabled; it returns when one listener disconnects. Sonos added two-listener sharing through a software update rather than a new hardware revision. Sonos’ TV Audio Swap guide.
Battery life, charging, and what comes in the box
Sonos rates Ace for up to 30 hours of listening with ANC or Aware mode enabled and up to 24 hours of talk time. The company says a three-minute rapid charge provides up to three hours of playback. The complete-charge time listed on the product page is up to three hours. These are manufacturer figures; actual results vary with use and settings. Sonos Ace product page.

- ALL DAY BATTERY LIFE: Bose QuietComfort wireless headphones provide up to 24 hours of battery on a single charge, plus a 15-minute charge via USB-C gives you up to 2.5 hours of additional play time
The box includes the headphones, a case, a USB-C-to-USB-C cable, and a USB-C-to-3.5mm cable. A compatible power adapter is required but not included. Sonos lists no water-resistance rating on the cited product specifications, so do not assume Ace is rated for workouts, rain, or sports use.
Connectivity and software changes since launch
Ace is a Bluetooth headphone with USB-C and 3.5mm wired listening; it is not a conventional Wi-Fi Sonos speaker. Bluetooth multipoint lets it connect to more than one device, while the Sonos app configures the headphones and unlocks the soundbar-related features. Later software updates added TrueCinema, two-headphone TV Audio Swap, adaptive ANC behavior intended to account for hair, glasses, and hats, higher-resolution calls, and SideTone, which lets users hear some of their own voice during calls with ANC active. These are software additions, not separate hardware revisions. Sonos’ update announcement.

People who want to share TV audio
Two Ace units can listen to the same TV Audio Swap session, which may suit partners or roommates. The compromise is that head tracking is unavailable while both are connected.
Buyers who want one headphone for travel and home
Ace combines ANC, Aware mode, multipoint, spatial-audio support, and wired USB-C or 3.5mm listening. Whether that combination is worth the price depends on comfort, sound preference, and how often you will use the Sonos-specific TV feature.

Is Sonos Ace worth it at $399?
At its $449 launch price, Ace was a premium first-generation Sonos headphone. At the $399 U.S. price shown on August 18, 2026, it is more compelling for someone with a compatible soundbar who will regularly use TV Audio Swap. For buyers who want only Bluetooth ANC headphones, its value depends on personal fit and listening preference; the Sonos home-theater feature alone may not justify the premium if it will go unused.
