Google’s accessibility features connected to Gemini are documented primarily for Android: TalkBack can describe images or the current screen, while Guided Vision in Gemini Live can provide spoken context from the phone’s camera. Google’s current subscription materials use names such as Google AI Pro, but the help pages for these accessibility features do not say a paid plan is required. Availability depends on factors including TalkBack version, language, Android device, and feature rollout.
What Gemini accessibility features are available on Android?
There are two distinct workflows. TalkBack’s Gemini-related tools describe content already on the screen, such as an image or app screen. Guided Vision uses a Gemini Live camera session to help interpret nearby surroundings. They are not replacements for Android’s built-in accessibility controls, and they have different availability and safety limits.
| Tool | What it helps with | How you access it | Important qualification |
|---|---|---|---|
| Gemini features in TalkBack | Describing an image or current screen, with an option to ask a follow-up question | Open the TalkBack menu and choose Describe image or Describe screen; ask a follow-up by voice or keyboard | Feature details and supported languages depend on TalkBack version. Google’s TalkBack 16.1 help documents expanded language support: TalkBack help. |
| Guided Vision in Gemini Live | Spoken help with nearby text, objects, visual details, and surroundings | Enable Guided Vision in Gemini settings, then use it during a Gemini Live session while sharing the device camera | Google says rollout is gradual, and warns the feature can make mistakes: Guided Vision help. |
How do I use Gemini with TalkBack?
- Turn on TalkBack and navigate to the image or screen you want described.
- Open the TalkBack menu and select Describe image or Describe screen. The exact options can depend on your TalkBack version.
- After the description, use Ask Gemini to ask a follow-up question by voice or with a keyboard.
Google’s TalkBack 16.0 help described the feature as English-only, while its TalkBack 16.1 help documents expanded language support. That older restriction should not be treated as permanent: check Google’s current supported-language information and your installed version. The menu path and available options can vary by version and language. See Google’s TalkBack help and the TalkBack 16.0 help.
Can Gemini describe what is on my screen?
Yes. The TalkBack workflow is intended to describe an image or the current screen, then let you ask a follow-up. It is screen-content assistance, not a general guarantee that Gemini can interpret every app element or replace TalkBack’s spoken feedback. For ordinary navigation and ongoing spoken feedback, use TalkBack itself.

Can Gemini help me read a label with my phone camera?
Guided Vision in Gemini Live can provide spoken help with text and visual details in the camera view. Google’s examples include reading or translating labels and signs, finding objects, describing color, shape, or pattern, and understanding a room’s layout. To use it, enable Guided Vision in Gemini settings, start Gemini Live, and share the device camera. The option’s availability is subject to gradual rollout.
Safety limit: Guided Vision can make mistakes. Google explicitly says, “Don’t use it for navigation or obstacle detection.” It is not a substitute for safe-travel guides or reliable mobility assistance. Do not rely on it to identify hazards or guide movement.

How does Gemini differ from Android’s other accessibility tools?
Android’s accessibility features serve different tasks; Gemini descriptions complement them rather than replacing them. Google lists options including TalkBack, Select to Speak, Voice Access, Switch Access, display and text settings, captions, and audio tools in its Android accessibility overview.
- TalkBack: spoken feedback for navigating and interacting with the device; its Gemini-related descriptions add help interpreting an image or screen.
- Select to Speak: reads selected on-screen text aloud.
- Voice Access: lets you control and navigate the device using spoken commands.
- Switch Access: supports device control using switches or other input methods.
- Display, caption, and audio options: adjust visual presentation, show captions, or support hearing and audio access needs.
Does Gemini Advanced include accessibility features?
The available Google help describes TalkBack’s Gemini-related tools and Guided Vision as Android software features; it does not establish that a paid Google AI plan or a particular phone model or accessory is required. Google’s subscription materials now use Google AI plan names, including Google AI Pro. Plan benefits and usage limits are separate from the documented accessibility workflows and may vary. See Google AI plans and Google One plan details.
