If your PS5 keeps ejecting discs, start with Sony’s basic disc checks: confirm the disc is inserted correctly, clean it, and test another supported disc. Sony’s guidance covers disc problems generally; it does not identify a specific cause or promise a fix for repeated automatic ejection. A disc stuck inside the console is a separate problem with a separate removal procedure.
Check the disc and try another one
- Confirm the disc is facing the right way. If your PS5 is standing vertically, Sony says the labeled side should face left as you insert it.
- Clean the disc. Wipe away fingerprints or dirt with a soft, clean cloth.
- Test another supported disc. Try a different PS5 game, Blu-ray, or DVD. PS5 consoles cannot play burned discs or audio CDs, according to Sony PlayStation Support’s disc troubleshooting guidance.
If the console ejects multiple supported discs, the symptom is less likely to be explained by one dirty or incorrectly inserted disc, but it still does not establish a specific hardware or software cause.
Try Sony’s non-destructive Safe Mode option
Sony recommends clearing the cache and rebuilding the database in Safe Mode for disc problems. This is general disc troubleshooting, not a confirmed fix specifically for recurring automatic ejection.
- Turn off the PS5 by pressing the power button. Wait until the console is fully off.
- Press and hold the power button again. Release it after the second beep, which sounds about seven seconds after the first.
- Connect the controller with a USB cable and press the PS button.
- Choose Clear Cache and Rebuild Database, then follow the on-screen instructions.

Keep a system reset as a last software step
Sony says to consider Reset PS5 (Reinstall System Software) only if rebuilding the database does not resolve the disc issue. This removes all console information, so do not use it as an early troubleshooting step. Before proceeding, review Sony’s system-software instructions and back up data you want to keep. Sony’s disc guidance describes this as a next step for unresolved disc problems; it does not guarantee that it will stop recurring ejection.
Know what a disc read error does—and does not—mean
Error code CE-110538-8 means “Failed to read Blu-ray disc.” Sony advises inspecting the disc, checking that it is inserted correctly, and trying another disc; if the error continues, contact PlayStation or use PlayStation Repairs. The code describes a read failure and is not proof of why a console repeatedly ejects discs. See Sony’s CE-110538-8 support page for the steps.
If the disc is stuck inside the PS5
Manual ejection is for a disc that will not come out—not for a console that keeps ejecting discs on its own. Sony’s procedure requires removing the cover to reach the manual-eject screw, and the steps vary with console construction. Follow the instructions for your console on Sony’s stuck-disc support page rather than improvising.
Sony specifies a #1 Phillips (cross-hatch) screwdriver for this procedure. That tool is relevant only if you are following the stuck-disc instructions; buying one is not a remedy for recurring automatic ejection. Sony directs you to turn the screw clockwise until the disc is almost fully visible, then remove it gently. Do not force the disc. Sony warns: “Don’t turn on or play on your console with the cover off.”
