Shift Up has described a 60 fps target for Switch 2 using upscaling and frame interpolation, but that is not a verified retail result. The main trade-off is therefore clear in features, but not yet in measured performance: Switch 2 adds handheld and tabletop play, while PS5 lists specific DualSense and 3D-audio features.
Release timing: PS5 is available, Switch 2 is upcoming
PlayStation lists the PS5 release date as 26 April 2024. The Switch 2 Complete Edition is not yet released as of 7 October 2026. Nintendo UK and Nintendo Australia list 5 November 2026, while Shift Up’s official page displays 6 November. Check the listing for your region: the dates differ by market.

Nintendo describes the Switch 2 release as the Complete Edition. The scheduled date is not evidence that the retail build has been tested; the performance details below are announced targets and plans, not a post-launch verdict.
How is Switch 2 performance expected to compare with PS5?
Switch 2: a 60 fps target, not a confirmed result
Shift Up CTO and technical director DongKi Lee told GamesRadar: “We targeted 60 frames per second in both handheld mode and docked mode.” Lee described using DLSS upscaling and AMD FSR 3.1 frame interpolation to pursue that target.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems#1 Best Overall
- Engage in blistering combat, unleashing graceful yet brutal attacking combos.
- Explore a stunning post-apocalyptic world bursting with danger and intrigue
- Unravel a tale of human fate, filled with mature themes and stunning revelations
That describes the developer’s announced approach, not a measured final frame rate. Frame interpolation generates additional displayed frames; it is not the same as rendering every displayed frame natively. No final Switch 2 resolution or independently verified retail performance result is established here.
Frame generation: a planned release toggle
The demo initially required frame generation. After feedback, Shift Up announced that a toggle would be added for release. Nintendo Life reproduced the studio’s statement: “We’ve been watching your feedback closely and decided to add a Frame Generation toggle at release. We hope this lets you play the way that looks and feels best to you!” The final toggle behavior—and performance with it on or off—has not been verified.

Demo-era impressions should not be treated as a controlled comparison with PS5 or as proof of retail input latency or image quality. PlayStation promotes rapid loading and PS5 Pro enhancement, but its cited product page gives no directly comparable measured frame rate or resolution.
What content is included in each edition?
The editions have distinct published content lists, so compare the named items rather than assuming that “Complete Edition” means the same bundle on both platforms.

| Edition | Published content |
|---|---|
| Switch 2 Complete Edition | Nintendo says it includes the “Stellar Blade x NieR:Automata” and “Stellar Blade x GODDESS OF VICTORY: NIKKE” DLCs; some content unlocks after story progress. Nintendo UK also lists the Complete Edition. GamesRadar reports previously released DLC and update content and four Bayonetta-themed costumes; its report says those costumes are also planned for PS5 and PC in a free update on the same date. GamesRadar |
| PS5 Standard Edition | PlayStation’s US listing describes it as the full game. PlayStation US |
| PS5 Complete Edition | PlayStation UK lists the full game, Digital Deluxe Edition content, Twin Expansion Pack, Planet Diving Suit (Captain), and Fluffy Bear Pack for the Drone. The same page separately lists NieR:Automata and GODDESS OF VICTORY: NIKKE add-ons; do not assume those are included in the Complete Edition based on the separate listings. PlayStation UK |
GamesRadar’s account of the Switch 2 bundle and Bayonetta costumes is secondary reporting of developer material. The costumes are not Switch 2-exclusive according to that report.
Which platform has the features you want?
| Feature | Switch 2 | PS5 |
|---|---|---|
| Ways to play | Handheld, tabletop, and TV modes are listed. Nintendo also lists cloud save support. Nintendo Australia | Console version; PlayStation UK lists Remote Play support. PlayStation UK |
| Controller and audio features | The cited Nintendo listings do not establish parity with the named PS5 controller and audio features. | PlayStation lists DualSense haptic feedback, adaptive triggers, and Tempest 3D AudioTech. PlayStation US |
| Players | One local player. Nintendo Australia | Single-player adventure. PlayStation UK |
| Switch 2 game-file size | Nintendo Australia lists 25 GB. This is a product specification, not a performance measure. Nintendo Australia | Not stated on the cited PlayStation pages. |
Which version should you choose?
- Choose PS5 if you want the available version now or value the listed DualSense haptics, adaptive triggers, and Tempest 3D AudioTech.
- Consider Switch 2 if handheld or tabletop play matters most, or if you want the Complete Edition’s bundled content on that system. Its promised 60 fps target should not be mistaken for a confirmed retail result.
- Wait for retail comparisons if performance is decisive. The cited sources do not establish Switch 2 resolution, final image quality, input latency, loading times, or performance with frame generation enabled and disabled.
Shift Up’s official page directs buyers to participating retailers worldwide, and GamesRadar reports a physical Switch 2 release with the full game on a 32 GB cartridge. Availability and the exact offer can vary by region and retailer; verify the local listing before buying. Shift Up
