For Oracle Cloud users, the intended change is access to ONTAP data-management capabilities and familiar management interfaces inside OCI—not a confirmed, generally available service today. The vendors announced it on September 29, 2026, and said general availability was planned within 12 months; they have not published an exact launch date, pricing, or technical service specifications. Oracle and NetApp announcement.
What Oracle and NetApp announced
The planned Oracle Cloud Infrastructure NetApp Storage Service is described as an OCI-native managed storage service bringing NetApp ONTAP data-management capabilities to OCI. Oracle and NetApp position it for migrating, running, protecting, and modernizing a range of workloads. Their announcement describes an intended product and target use cases; it does not establish that the service is available to deploy now.
The vendors frame the appeal as moving existing ONTAP-based workloads to OCI while minimizing application redesign and changes to storage-management practices. That is a stated goal, not a guarantee of seamless migration or a reported customer result.
What changes for day-to-day storage management
The announcement names the OCI Console and SDKs, ONTAP APIs, and familiar operational workflows as ways customers are expected to manage the service. This could let teams accustomed to ONTAP carry some existing storage-management practices into OCI rather than starting from an entirely unfamiliar model.

UGREEN NAS is a better way to free up storage across all your devices such as phones, computers, tablets and also does automatic backups across devices regardless of the operating system—Window, iOS, Android or macOS.
- The Smarter Long-term Way to Store: Unlike cloud storage with recurring monthly fees, a UGREEN NAS enclosure requires only a one-time purchase for long-term use. For example, you only need to pay $459.98 for a NAS, while for cloud storage, you need to pay $719.88 per year, $2,159.64 for 3 years, $3,599.40 for 5 years. You will save $6,738.82 over 10 years with UGREEN NAS! *NAS cost based on DH2300 + 12TB HDD; cloud cost based on 12TB plan (e.g. $59.99/month).

- Let AI Better Organize Your Memories: UGREEN NAS uses AI to tag faces, locations, texts, and objects—so you can effortlessly find any photo by searching for who or what's in it in seconds. It also automatically finds and deletes similar or duplicate photo, backs up live photos and allows you to share them with your friends or family with just one tap. Everything stays effortlessly organized, powered by intelligent tagging and recognition.
The announcement does not list which control-plane functions will be available through each interface, which ONTAP API operations will be supported, or how responsibilities will be divided between Oracle, NetApp, and the customer. Organizations should treat interface continuity as the stated direction, not assume that every existing tool, script, policy, or procedure will work unchanged.
Which workloads the vendors say it targets
Oracle and NetApp name these workload categories:
- Databases and enterprise applications
- Virtualized environments
- Electronic design automation (EDA) and high-performance computing (HPC)
- Regulated applications
- AI data pipelines
Those categories describe the intended scope, not verified compatibility for a particular application. The announcement does not specify supported protocols or configurations, performance limits, capacity, or regional availability. A workload owner will need product-specific documentation to establish whether an application’s architecture, performance requirements, and operational controls fit.

What this does—and does not—say about Oracle Database
The announcement’s references to databases do not establish a specific Oracle Database integration, supported database architecture, or replacement for storage used by another OCI database service. Oracle’s current Base Database Service documentation describes database systems running on OCI virtual machines. Its Base Database Service FAQ describes block-volume storage and says pricing depends on factors including database edition, shape, compute metric, and storage capacity. These sources provide context for an existing OCI database offering; they do not document integration with the planned NetApp service.
Availability, pricing, and details still to be confirmed
Oracle and NetApp announced the service on September 29, 2026, and said general availability was planned within the following 12 months. They did not give a specific launch date or price. Oracle’s announcement also cautions that development, release timing, and pricing may change.
