Announced by Quantinuum on October 5, 2026, and by UWA on October 6, the proposed collaboration also covers quantum talent development and research into applications combining quantum computing, artificial intelligence (AI) and high-performance computing (HPC).
Who is expected to get access to Quantinuum Helios through UWA?
The announcement names UWA-affiliated researchers, students and entrepreneurs as the intended users. It describes cloud-based access to Quantinuum’s full-stack platform, including its Helios system. Neither announcement specifies when access would begin, how users would apply, how much usage would be available or whether access would cost anything. Quantinuum’s announcement and UWA’s account do not provide those terms.
What will the Quantinuum–UWA partnership do?
Explore hybrid research and potential applications
The organizations plan to evaluate possible use cases, establish technical benchmarks and assess workflows that combine quantum computing with AI and HPC. They identify critical minerals, energy, agriculture and healthcare as sectors to investigate. These are prospective research areas; the announcement reports no completed application, benchmark result or measured outcome.
Consider a university-wide applications centre
Quantinuum and UWA say they will explore creating a quantum-computing applications centre that could connect academic, industry and government stakeholders. The centre is proposed, not established.

Develop skills and ecosystem connections
The announcement names Quantinuum’s Q-Net and Startup Partner Program as possible avenues for training, peer collaboration and developing quantum-enabled solutions. It does not state who would qualify for these programs or what participation would involve.
What does the non-binding MOU mean?
The agreement sets out intentions, not guaranteed delivery. Quantinuum says definitive agreements may not follow, the parties may not carry out the proposed activities, and the applications centre may never be created. The access, research, training and centre plans should therefore be understood as possibilities described in the announcement rather than services or outcomes already in place.

How should readers interpret Quantinuum’s Helios claim?
Quantinuum describes Helios as “the world’s most accurate commercial quantum computer,” qualifying that vendor claim as of December 31, 2025. The partnership announcement does not provide an independent performance comparison, so the superlative should not be treated as independently verified evidence of Helios’s position.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Why the collaboration matters to UWA
The proposal could give university-affiliated users a route to explore quantum hardware and software while building skills and testing whether hybrid workflows have useful applications in Australian sectors. UWA’s Professor Jingbo Wang, founder and Director of its Research Centre for Quantum Information, Simulation and Algorithm (QUISA), said the initiative would create opportunities for researchers, students and industry partners through co-design with potential end users and hardware providers. That is the intended benefit; the MOU does not yet establish access terms or demonstrate practical results.
