Apple TV has announced The Choir, an eight-episode comedic drama starring and executive-produced by Gavin & Stacey creators Ruth Jones and James Corden. The series is in production and is planned to premiere globally on Apple TV in 2027; Apple has not announced an exact date.
What is The Choir about?
Ben (Corden) and Lisa (Jones) are siblings who have not seen each other for several years. Ben has been abroad, while Lisa has stayed in their small English town. After events take a “sorry turn,” Ben is compelled to return to the life and estranged family he left behind. A struggling local choir may offer a way to mend the siblings’ rift.

Apple describes the series as a story about “family, friendship, love and music.” The premise makes the choir part of the family drama, not just a backdrop: its members and weekly rehearsals may help reconnect the siblings.
Are Ruth Jones and James Corden working together again?
Yes. Apple calls The Choir their first project together since Gavin & Stacey: The Finale. Jones and Corden created the new series, star in it as Lisa and Ben, and are among its executive producers.

Why is the announcement linked to a “record-breaking” comedy?
The record refers to Gavin & Stacey, not to The Choir. In a January 3, 2025 release, the BBC reported that Gavin & Stacey: The Finale had reached 19.3 million viewers, making it the UK’s most-watched scripted show across broadcasters and streamers since current records began in 2002. The BBC said the finale surpassed the show’s 2019 Christmas special, which had reached 18.5 million viewers in 28 days.

The BBC also reported 12.3 million overnight viewers on Christmas Day and said more than six million were added later to the audience total. Its release expected the 28-day figure to exceed 20 million; that was a forecast in the January 2025 release, not a confirmed final total in the sources cited here.
