Some Pixel 11 owners say Google Maps stutters, freezes, flickers, or falls behind their location when used on Android Auto. Reports include both wired and wireless connections, but they do not establish how widespread the problem is or identify a confirmed cause or fix.
What Pixel 11 users are experiencing
Android Authority reported on October 5, 2026, that users had described choppy or frozen Maps, flickering, location lag, and graphical artifacts on their car displays. Some said other Android Auto functions continued working while Maps misbehaved. The complaints are individual reports, not results from a controlled test or a measure of the share of Pixel 11 owners affected.
Reports include wired and wireless Android Auto sessions. Some Pixel 11 or car combinations were reportedly unaffected, so the available accounts do not show that every Pixel 11, vehicle, or head unit has the same problem. They also do not establish whether the phone, Maps, Android Auto, vehicle receiver, or an interaction among them is responsible.
What Google has said—and what remains unresolved
Android Authority said Google had escalated at least one report and was contacting affected users for more information. As of the report’s October 5, 2026 publication, it had not identified a confirmed fix for this specific Maps lag and graphics complaint. Google’s general support activity should not be read as confirmation that the specific problem has been diagnosed.

Google’s Android Auto known-issues page, updated September 10, 2026, lists other recently addressed problems, including Maps turn-by-turn directions not showing. What to try when Maps glitches on Android Auto
Google’s recommendations are general Android Auto troubleshooting, not verified remedies for this Pixel 11 Maps issue. Try the steps that match your setup and note whether the symptom changes; doing so can help distinguish a connection problem from one confined to Maps.

- Check compatibility and settings. Confirm that your phone and car support Android Auto and that Android Auto is enabled in the car’s infotainment settings. Google’s Android Auto troubleshooting guide covers these general checks.
- Restart the infotainment system. Restart the car’s system and reconnect the phone, then check whether Maps still stutters or freezes.
- Check receiver firmware if you use an aftermarket unit. Look for firmware updates from the receiver’s manufacturer.
- If you use a wired connection, test a different cable. Google recommends a high-quality USB cable under 1 meter, without a hub or extension, for connection problems. Its support page says: “For the best quality and reliability when you connect to Android Auto try a high-quality USB cable.” This is generic cable guidance, not a confirmed cure for Maps rendering problems. It also cannot address a problem that occurs during wireless use.
Useful details to record before reporting the issue
There is no established diagnostic test that identifies the cause, but keeping a few observations together can make a support report more useful:
- Whether you use wired or wireless Android Auto, and whether the same behavior occurs in both modes.
- What Maps does: for example, whether it freezes, flickers, shows visual artifacts, or falls behind your location.
- Whether other Android Auto functions continue normally while Maps is affected.
- Whether the same phone shows the problem in another car or head unit, if you can safely check.
These comparisons can describe where the symptom appears; they do not prove which component causes it. Reddit users have described trying cache or data clearing and changing permissions or battery settings, but those anecdotes do not establish that those steps work broadly or apply to every setup.
