Provider notices confirm that unauthorized access reached legacy Oracle Health/Cerner systems in January 2025, and that patient information held in those systems may have been involved. But the available notices do not establish a verified total number of affected patients or hospitals, so “huge” remains an unverified description—not a confirmed count. Whether your information was involved depends on your healthcare provider and its notification.
What happened, and when?
Several healthcare providers say Oracle Health, formerly Cerner, told them an unauthorized third party had accessed legacy Oracle Health/Cerner systems as early as January 22, 2025. MedStar St. Mary’s describes the environment as Oracle Health data-migration systems. The notices concern data held in the vendor’s systems, not a single confirmed compromise of every Oracle Health customer.

The provider notices and patient-list timelines vary. LifeBridge Health says its notice is dated October 16, 2025, and that Oracle Health provided its potentially affected patient list on September 19. ChristianaCare says it received a list on September 29. UMC says Cerner notified it on October 20, 2025, and that UMC completed its review of the list on January 26, 2026. LifeBridge Health, ChristianaCare and UMC Health System provide their respective timelines.
How many people were affected?
No reviewed provider notice gives a portfolio-wide total, and the April 23, 2025 letter from Democratic members of the House Committee on Veterans’ Affairs describes the patient count for the reported data-migration incident as unknown. The notices establish that multiple providers had patients whose information could have been involved; they do not establish a verified aggregate number of patients or hospitals.

The House letter also discusses a separate reported Oracle Cloud Classic incident involving customer security keys, encrypted credentials, LDAP entries and other data. Do not treat that as the same event as the patient data-migration incident. The letter says its account drew in part on private communications and press reports; its discussion of the data-migration incident and a ransom demand is reported information, not a final public investigation finding or an Oracle statement. Read the House committee members’ April 23, 2025 letter.
What information may have been involved?
Possible data differed by person and provider. Across the notices, examples include names, Social Security numbers, medical record numbers, doctors, diagnoses, medications, test results, images, and care or treatment details. MedStar St. Mary’s also lists driver’s-license numbers, dates of birth, dates of service and insurance information. These are examples of information that may have been involved across the notices—not a list of data exposed for every person.

Those statements describe the named providers’ reported experience; they are not independent forensic conclusions about every provider or Oracle customer. The notices do not mean that no patient data held in the legacy vendor environment was involved.

- Check for a notice from your provider. Read any letter or email carefully and use the provider’s own instructions to determine whether you are among the individuals identified. A patient’s connection to Oracle Health alone does not establish that their information was involved.
- Use any complimentary protection offered in your notice. Some providers offer credit monitoring or identity-protection services to the people on their affected lists. Eligibility, contact details and enrollment deadlines are provider-specific; follow the terms in your own notice rather than assuming an offer applies to everyone.
- Review healthcare statements. Check statements from your provider and health insurer, and promptly report inaccuracies or charges for services you did not receive, as the notices advise.
