Weio Site Check is a hosted MCP service for checking whether a public hostname has a certificate problem and explaining the likely cause. Its check_https tool can help answer, “Does this site open securely in a browser, or does it throw ‘Your connection is not private’?” It is a remote diagnostic, not a full security audit or a guarantee that every visitor can reach the site.
What Weio Site Check does
Weio’s September 30, 2026 article describes Site Check as an MCP endpoint at https://weio.ai/mcp, using stateless Streamable HTTP. It names two tools: check_https diagnoses certificate and privacy-warning conditions for a hostname and its www variant, while site_info retrieves public homepage information such as the page title, CMS, mobile viewport tag, role email addresses, phone numbers, and social links. The article says both tools are annotated readOnlyHint: true. These are the vendor’s descriptions, not independently tested findings. Weio’s article
For a focused HTTPS question, use check_https. The other tool gathers public page details and is not a substitute for a certificate diagnosis.
How to connect it to an MCP client
The endpoint is hosted, so a client that supports Streamable HTTP can connect without installing a local server. Weio gives this Claude Code command:

How to read the HTTPS result
Weio describes a structured result with a cause value and a visible field. The cause indicates the diagnosis; visible indicates whether the result suggests a browser warning/interstitial or a “Not secure” label is expected. The article also describes expired_days; a negative value means the certificate remains valid. These fields and interpretations are the article’s account of the tool’s output.

A failed lookup or unreachable host is not the same finding as a successful TLS connection that presents a bad certificate. The result describes what the checking service could determine from its own network vantage point; it does not prove what every browser, DNS resolver, or network will see.

Why checking the exact hostname matters
A domain and its www subdomain can resolve to different services, use different certificates, or differ in whether they are served at all. Weio’s article says wrong.host.badssl.com returns wrong_cert because its presented certificate is for *.badssl.com, not the requested hostname. It also says www.expired.badssl.com may return an unknown result because that hostname is not served; the tool does not guess. Weio’s article
- Check the exact address that fails, including whether it starts with
www. - If you need to diagnose a domain’s behavior, check both the apex hostname and the
wwwhostname separately. - Treat an unknown or unreachable result as an availability or resolution question, not as proof of a certificate mismatch.
Free allowance and optional paid use
Weio’s September 30, 2026 article states that the service allows 10 calls per day without a key. It also describes an optional key costing $9 for 1,000 calls, valid for 12 months. What this check cannot tell you
A remote certificate check is one diagnostic input. It does not establish that a site is safe overall, that its pages are free of malicious content, or that it will load for every visitor. DNS behavior, network reachability, the hostname requested, and the checker’s vantage point can all affect what it reports.
If the issue is an MCP client failing to connect to a server, the problem may be elsewhere than the server’s public certificate. Anthropic’s tunnel troubleshooting guidance distinguishes the outbound connection to the tunnel edge, inner TLS between Anthropic and the proxy, and routing or IP validation to the upstream MCP server. For inner TLS certificate errors, it advises checking expiry, whether the Subject Alternative Name matches the tunnel domain, and whether the signing CA is registered. Choose based on the question you need answered: certificate status alone, broader HTTP/DNS diagnostics, how clearly the tool explains a failure, hostname and redirect handling, connection setup, usage limits, and whether private destinations are blocked.
