astro check is presented as a single-command pre-flight checklist that brings together GitHub notifications and open pull requests, WakaTime coding stats for the last seven days, and local repository health details. It is an aggregation tool, not evidence of improved productivity—and its current package status and behavior have not been independently confirmed.
What the one-command pre-flight checklist does
According to the original article, astro-tasks collects several signals developers might otherwise check in separate places. Its main command is astro check, described as combining GitHub activity, coding statistics, and local repo health scan results.
- GitHub: notifications and open pull requests, accessed through the
ghcommand-line tool. - WakaTime: coding stats for the last seven days. That is the reporting interval, not a measured productivity gain.
- Local repositories: branch, dirty state, and unpushed commits.
Aarush Karak, credited as the article’s author, described the motivation: “Before starting work I used to open three tabs: GitHub notifications, the WakaTime dashboard, and a git status sweep across local repos. I built astro-tasks to put that in one terminal command.”
What you need before using it
The article describes two separate integration prerequisites. GitHub access relies on the GitHub CLI, while coding statistics rely on a local WakaTime configuration file.

The reported installation command is pip install astro-tasks. The current release, package provenance, compatibility, and command behavior could not be confirmed from the project repository or PyPI page. Check current project documentation before installing or depending on these commands; do not assume the package name or instructions are current.
Who this tool may suit
The described workflow is most relevant if you already use GitHub CLI, WakaTime, and several local repositories, and want their status gathered in one terminal command. The setup burden is less attractive if you do not use either integration: GitHub access depends on gh, and coding stats depend on WakaTime configuration.

Verify the project before relying on it
There is another project called astro-tasks, described as an astronomy and GitHub dashboard. Its NASA or asteroid-related features should not be assumed to belong to this developer pre-flight checklist. Confirm that the project you find is the intended one before installing a similarly named package.
