Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Eight C static site generators are featured in LinuxLinks’ roundup dated April 18, 2026: blogc, sblg, Housecat, mkws, Kevlar, swege, Bonobo, and bloggy. They are not a tested or objectively ranked “best” list; the entries describe different authoring and build workflows, and the available profiles do not establish a consistent selection or scoring method. Your best fit depends on whether you want to write in HTML or Markdown, use make or shell-based templates, or generate feeds as well as pages.
What a C static site generator does
A static site generator creates HTML files before you upload a site, rather than generating each page in response to a visitor’s request. LinuxLinks points to documentation as one useful application and cites local previews, version control, easier data export, reduced server-side software requirements, and potentially lower server load as advantages. These are general benefits, not guarantees: a static site can still contain vulnerable components or be misconfigured.

The eight tools below come from LinuxLinks’ April 18, 2026 roundup. Their workflows are varied, and the available descriptions do not verify every tool’s present-day maintenance, installation requirements, or license. Treat platform and feature statements as claims from the cited project profiles, not as independent test results.

| Tool | Authoring and build workflow | Outputs or distinguishing details | Evidence limits |
|---|---|---|---|
| blogc | Make-compatible blog compiler, according to the roundup. | Positioned for a make-oriented blog build. | Detailed features, license, supported platforms, and release state were not established in the retrieved material. |
| sblg | Articles can be HTML/XHTML, XML fragments, or complete XML documents; Markdown can be converted to XHTML first. Designed for make-style build environments. | Static HTML, Atom feeds, and XML or JSON output; supports standalone, blog, and combined modes with templates. | Profile dated October 29, 2023; current upstream status and installation prerequisites need checking. |
| Housecat | Described as a static-site generator with an intentionally simple interface. | Detailed workflow and outputs were not established. | Current features, license, dependencies, and maintenance status were not established. |
| mkws | Uses shell (sh) as its templating language. Its .upphtml templates are processed through pp, which embeds shell code in files. |
Profile describes Unix utilities in templates, no configuration or package manager requirement, and optional JavaScript. LinuxLinks describes the implementation as about 30 lines of shell and 400 lines of C. | Those implementation-size and setup descriptions are profile claims, not independent measurements or tests. |
| Kevlar | HTML-first command-line workflow; includes recipes for Markdown and reStructuredText. | LinuxLinks describes it as zero-dependency and reports testing on Linux and Windows. Repository named in the profile: github.com/Aadv1k/kevlar. | Platform and dependency statements are profile claims. Confirm current requirements and project state upstream. |
| swege | Builds a site from Markdown files using the Discount library and a swege.cfg configuration workflow. |
Profile describes incremental updates, a rebuild command, title detection from the first Markdown line or a title: field, an example site, and a codebase under 500 lines of C. LinuxLinks reports testing on GNU/Linux, FreeBSD, and macOS; other Unix-like systems and Windows through MinGW are described as theoretical support. |
Discount is a dependency. The platform and implementation-size details are profile claims, not independent tests. |
| Bonobo | Combines JSON metadata with Markdown content. | Supports RSS and metadata for title, description, date, language, and CSS selection; the profile says example pages are included in its test directory. | Current maintenance and installation requirements were not established. |
| bloggy | Included in the roundup and labeled minimalist. | Technical details sufficient for comparison were not established. | Input format, license, dependencies, supported systems, and maintenance status were not established. |
Which generator fits your workflow?
For a make-oriented build
blogc is explicitly described as compatible with make. sblg also targets make-style build environments and has the clearest stated set of output modes: HTML, Atom, XML, and JSON. Choose between them only after checking their current upstream documentation; the available details are substantially richer for sblg than for blogc.
#1 Best Overall
- Includes Raspberry Pi 5 with 2.4Ghz 64-bit quad-core CPU (8GB RAM)
- Includes 128GB Micro SD Card pre-loaded with 64-bit Raspberry Pi OS, USB MicroSD Card Reader
- CanaKit Turbine Black Case for the Raspberry Pi 5
- CanaKit Low Noise Bearing System Fan

For shell-powered templates
mkws is the distinctive option if you want shell logic in templates rather than a separate template language. Its profile describes .upphtml files processed by pp, and using Unix utilities from templates. That approach can suit a Unix-oriented workflow, but check the current project instructions and environment requirements before relying on it.
For Markdown authoring
swege is Markdown-centered and uses Discount to convert Markdown as part of its build. Bonobo also accepts Markdown, paired with JSON metadata, and reports RSS support. Kevlar takes an HTML-first approach but includes recipes for Markdown and reStructuredText. These are not interchangeable: consider whether you prefer a configuration-driven Markdown build, metadata stored alongside content, or HTML as the primary format.

- Includes Raspberry Pi 4 4GB Model B with 1.5GHz 64-bit quad-core CPU (4GB RAM)
- Includes Pre-Loaded 32GB EVO+ Micro SD Card (Class 10), USB MicroSD Card Reader

- CanaKit USB-C PiSwitch (On/Off Power Switch for Raspberry Pi 4)
For HTML or XML content
sblg accepts HTML/XHTML and XML content, while allowing Markdown to be converted to XHTML before processing. Kevlar is described as HTML-first. This can be a better fit than a Markdown-centered workflow if your existing content or publishing process already produces structured markup.
Feeds, dependencies, and platform claims
Output requirements can narrow the options quickly. sblg’s profile describes Atom generation and XML or JSON output; Bonobo’s profile reports RSS support. The available descriptions do not establish equivalent feed features for the other entries, so do not assume that a tool produces a particular feed unless its current documentation says so.
Rank #3

- Programming Lessons: This raspberry pi 5 learning kit ships with step by step instructions and provides 21 lessons to take you through identifying components reading code and running it in the terminal
Dependency and operating-system claims also need careful interpretation:
- Kevlar: LinuxLinks describes it as zero-dependency and reports tests on Linux and Windows. Confirm what “zero-dependency” means for the version and installation method you intend to use.
- swege: its profile names Discount as a dependency and reports testing on GNU/Linux, FreeBSD, and macOS. Windows support through MinGW is described as theoretical, not tested.
- sblg: its profile lists Linux, OpenBSD, NetBSD, FreeBSD, macOS, Solaris, and Illumos.
These are dated profile statements, not a guarantee that current releases build or run on every listed system. Check upstream instructions for compiler, library, and installation prerequisites.

Check before adopting one
The roundup says the listed tools use freely distributable licenses, but the available profiles do not establish a comparable, current license record for every project. Some profiles name licenses—sblg and mkws list ISC; Kevlar lists GNU GPL version 3.0; swege lists Apache License 2.0; and Bonobo lists ISC—while sufficient license detail is not established here for blogc, Housecat, or bloggy. Verify the license in the current upstream repository before incorporating a tool into a project.
