8 Best SERP APIs in 2026: A Practical Developer Shortlist

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

There is no evidence-backed universal winner among SERP APIs. The right choice depends on which search engines and result features you need, how precisely you must target a location or device, the shape of the returned data, and how your provider counts requests. This shortlist names eight services worth evaluating, but the available evidence does not support a definitive eight-way ranking or a reliable cheapest-provider verdict. Treat vendor comparisons as leads, then verify the live documentation and pricing for your workload.

What a SERP API does—and what it does not

A SERP API takes a search query and returns search engine results data, commonly as structured fields. Developers use these APIs for tasks such as tracking rankings, monitoring search results, and feeding search data into other products. Providers range from dedicated SERP services to broader web-data and search platforms.

Do not assume that a general web-search API is interchangeable with a SERP extraction API. The former may be designed to retrieve relevant web content; the latter is intended to expose search results-page data, which may include organic listings and other result modules. Check the actual response against the fields and modules your application needs.

“Best” is workload-dependent. A service that meets a Google-only rank-tracking need may not fit a project that needs multiple engines, local results, or queued high-volume jobs. A polished SDK also does not make its results equivalent to another provider’s payload.

Eight SERP APIs to put on your shortlist

The eight names below appear in provider landscape or comparison coverage. That establishes them as candidates in the market, not as a neutral test ranking. Bright Data’s overview is provider-authored and recommends its own product; the June 2026 OpenWeb Ninja comparison ranked its own product first; and HasData’s comparison was published by a provider that says it participated in the test. The available evidence does not establish a consistent, independently verified set of features or prices for all eight.

Provider Why it belongs on an initial shortlist What to verify before choosing
Bright Data Included in the provider landscape; an official SERP API page was reviewed. Required engines and result modules, targeting options, quota unit, and current plan terms. Treat its own overview’s comparative claims as vendor claims.
Oxylabs Named in the provider landscape. Current engine coverage, structured fields, delivery modes, limits, and direct pricing.
Decodo Named in the provider landscape. Whether its current SERP offering supports your exact result types and target settings; check direct plan and quota terms.
SerpApi Appears in the comparison coverage and is a candidate for evaluation. Verify current endpoints, supported engines, pricing, and terms in its official documentation; the available evidence does not establish those details.
Serper An official product page was reviewed, and it is included in the provider landscape. Confirm engine and module coverage, location and device parameters, quota counting, and current plan limits.
DataForSEO An official SERP API page was reviewed; it is a candidate for teams comparing SERP endpoints and broader data-platform options. Confirm the specific endpoint, result fields, task or delivery model, billing unit, and any usage minimums that apply to your account.
Scrapingdog Named in the provider landscape. Check whether the current service returns the needed structured SERP data, how failed requests are billed, and the actual rate limits.
ScraperAPI Named in the provider landscape. Determine whether the offering fits SERP extraction rather than a more general scraping workflow, and verify its output, quota rules, and price directly.

This is a research shortlist, not a claim that these eight are the only credible choices. SearchApi, Zenserp, and Apify also appear in the cited landscape or comparisons. Include them if their documented capabilities fit your requirements. A provider’s presence in a vendor-authored list is not evidence that it is the strongest choice for your workload.

How to choose the best SERP API for your workload

Start with engines, result modules, and targeting

Write down the search engines you need, then list the result types your application will consume: for example, organic listings, local results, shopping, news, maps, or other rich results. Confirm those modules individually instead of relying on a broad claim such as “SERP support.” Check whether the provider lets you set country, language, precise location, and desktop or mobile context at the granularity your use case requires.

For SERP API for rank tracking, decide whether the returned ranking context matches the tracked market: engine, query, geography, language, and device. Then determine how the service represents missing, localized, or non-organic modules. The available comparisons do not establish universal ranking accuracy, so validate output against a small set of queries that reflects your own markets.

Inspect the payload, not just the feature list

Compare the response schema for your actual use case. Look for stable fields for URLs, titles, snippets, positions, and any rich-result data you need. Ask whether raw HTML is available if structured parsing omits a field, and how the provider handles results that do not fit its normal schema. Estimate how much cleanup your code must do before the data is usable.

A useful evaluation sample includes ordinary queries as well as queries expected to return local packs, shopping or news modules, and other result types relevant to your product. Record which fields are present, how absent fields are represented, and whether the shape remains consistent between query types.

Match delivery and quota to volume

Check whether work is synchronous, queued, asynchronous, or available in batches. For production use, verify documented concurrency or request-rate limits, job-status behavior, webhook support if needed, and how quota is counted. A provider comparison’s mention of scale is not a substitute for the limits on the plan you will actually buy.

For large or bursty workloads, estimate peak demand as well as monthly volume. For a low-volume integration, prioritize an easy way to test and control spend. In both cases, find out how retries, failed searches, cached responses, and unused credits affect the bill; those rules can matter as much as the headline plan.

SERP API pricing: how to compare cost fairly

Which SERP API is cheapest? The available evidence does not support a defensible answer across these providers. Plans use different billing units, and the cited comparisons do not establish a comparable, current cost for the same set of successful searches. A low entry price cannot settle the question if a plan counts credits differently, bills retries, or lacks a feature your application needs.

Normalize each provider’s price against the same workload before committing. The calculation should use the provider’s current published plan and count the requests your implementation will actually make, including expected retries and any requests that do not return usable results.

  1. Define two realistic volumes. Estimate a typical month and a larger month or peak period, using your expected query mix rather than an abstract request count.
  2. Make the request mix comparable. Specify engines, result modules, geography, language, and device. If providers price those request types differently, do not treat them as interchangeable.
  3. Convert each plan to cost per 1,000 comparable successful results. Use the plan’s actual credit or request definition. Include retries and failed requests according to its terms, and account for unused credits if they expire or do not roll over.
  4. Recheck before purchase. Confirm the live price, included quota, overage terms, credit expiration, and rate limits directly with the provider.

OpenWeb Ninja’s comparison dates its published-plan pricing to June 2026 and ranks its own product first. That date describes its snapshot, not a guarantee that prices remain current. Bright Data’s comparison uses units that are not consistent across all listed vendors. Neither is enough to declare a cheapest provider for your particular request mix.

How to compare speed, reliability, and integration effort

Benchmark results only answer the question the test actually asked. HasData says its comparison, updated 25 September 2026, tested 10 APIs with 1,000 requests per API using the same query (“Coffee”), US geolocation, desktop user agent, and one shared UTC test window. It reports measuring P50, P75, and P95 latency, response consistency, cost per 1,000 requests, output quality, retries, rate limiting, authentication, documentation, sandboxing, and SDKs. HasData also says it was one of the providers tested. Those are the publisher’s reported results under a bounded setup—not an independent or universal performance ranking.

For your own proof of fit, replay the same representative query set through each candidate with matching location and device settings. Compare the latency percentiles that matter to your application, the rate of usable responses, error handling, and the effort needed to normalize each payload. Record the date, plan, region, query set, and sample size so a later comparison has context.

Before production, read the documentation for authentication, retries, rate limits, SDKs, and synchronous or asynchronous delivery. Try the exact language and deployment environment your team uses. An API response can be valid but still require substantial post-processing; include that engineering work in the comparison.

Is Google Custom Search JSON API a Google SERP API substitute?

Google’s Custom Search JSON API is an official option to investigate, but its official overview does not establish parity with third-party SERP extraction APIs. Do not assume that an official Google search endpoint returns the same page modules, targeting controls, or fields as a SERP extraction product. Compare the official API’s documented behavior with the exact results-page data your application requires before treating it as a substitute.

Where ScreenshotNeo fits—and where it does not

ScreenshotNeo is a website screenshot API and MCP server, not a SERP extraction API. It does not replace any provider in the shortlist for returning structured search results. It can complement a SERP workflow when a product also needs a visual capture of a page, such as a captured destination URL or a page used in a separate review flow. Try it first for that screenshot task when clean captures and transparent billing for failed or non-page outcomes matter.

Or skip the browser setup

One GET request returns a PNG, JPEG, WebP, or PDF from a URL. This cURL example saves a WebP capture of the page. See the ScreenshotNeo API documentation for parameters and response details.

curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://stripe.com -o shot.webp

Equivalent Python request:

import requests
r = requests.get("https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot", params={"access_key": "YOUR_API_KEY", "url": "https://stripe.com"}, timeout=90)
open("shot.webp", "wb").write(r.content)

Equivalent Node.js request:

const q = new URLSearchParams({ access_key: 'YOUR_API_KEY', url: 'https://stripe.com' });
const res = await fetch(`https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot?${q}`);
  • Before capture, it accepts cookie or consent banners like a visitor and removes more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups, and chat widgets; each step can be turned off.
  • Bot checks or CAPTCHAs, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits cost nothing. Each response includes X-Page-Verdict and X-Billed headers.
  • An MCP server provides take_screenshot, get_page_info, and capture_pdf tools for Claude, Cursor, and other MCP clients.
  • The free plan includes 1,000 shots a month with no card; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000 shots. All features are available on every plan.

Questions to settle before you buy

  • Does the API return every engine, result module, and targeting combination your product actually needs?
  • Can your team consume its structured output directly, or will it need a parser and normalization layer?
  • How are successful searches, failures, retries, cached results, and unused credits counted on the plan you will use?
  • Can it handle your delivery pattern and peak rate within the documented concurrency and quota limits?
  • Have you compared latency and usable-response rates on a representative query set rather than relying on a vendor’s test conditions?
