AI governance software can help your organization inventory AI systems, assess risk, assign approvals, preserve evidence, and—in some products and supported environments—monitor or enforce controls after deployment. No single platform is the right choice for every company, and the eight products below are a shortlist to evaluate, not a verified ranking: the available product information does not establish comparable independent performance across them.
What AI governance software should do
Think of governance software as an operational layer around your AI estate, not as a substitute for accountable people or sound policy. Depending on the product, it may help teams find models, agents, applications, or third-party tools; classify their risks; route reviews and approvals; connect controls to frameworks or legal duties; and retain decisions and monitoring evidence.
Coverage varies. A product may focus on workflow and inventory, add runtime observation for selected environments, or extend a broader data, security, or enterprise-platform suite into AI oversight. A framework mapping or compliance dashboard does not, by itself, establish that your organization complies with a law or standard.
Eight AI governance products to consider
These profiles summarize vendor descriptions, not independent product tests. Treat stated capabilities as items to verify against your own use cases, architecture, package, and region.

1. OneTrust AI Governance
OneTrust describes intake and approval workflows, risk tiering, AI system discovery and inventory, and policy and framework templates that include the EU AI Act and NIST AI RMF. The vendor also describes runtime observation and guardrails for supported environments. Ask it to demonstrate coverage of the exact models, agents, and deployment environments you use; the product page identifies selected integrations and signals, not universal coverage.
2. IBM watsonx.governance
IBM presents watsonx.governance as a way to track AI assets, map obligations and enforce policies, capture compliance evidence, monitor systems, manage lifecycle risk, and maintain traceability. Its materials also refer to framework content and enterprise GRC. Validate model support, deployment architecture, package entitlements, and the integrations your teams require.

3. Credo AI
Credo AI describes discovery, assessment, governance, monitoring, and reporting across enterprise agents, models, and applications. Its materials reference the EU AI Act, NIST, and ISO. Treat any performance or speed figures on the vendor’s product page as vendor claims rather than independent comparative results.
4. Holistic AI
Holistic AI markets an end-to-end enterprise governance platform and describes AI system audits covering bias, robustness, and security, with compliance mapping to the EU AI Act, ISO/IEC 42001, and NIST AI RMF. In a demonstration, ask which audit methods apply to your use cases, what evidence the system produces, and which integrations are available.

5. ServiceNow AI Control Tower
ServiceNow describes AI Control Tower as connecting discovery, security, governance, observation, and value measurement, with AI asset records linked to its enterprise platform and CMDB. Its materials reference NIST AI RMF and EU AI Act content. Confirm which capabilities are available for your geography, release, and package rather than relying on announced scope alone.
6. Microsoft Purview
Microsoft Purview is a broader data security, governance, and compliance suite, not an AI-governance-only product. Microsoft describes data discovery and governance, data security, compliance, and lifecycle management for data and AI, and references AI apps and agents. It may suit organizations whose oversight requirements are closely tied to Microsoft data, compliance, and security tooling. Check whether it can cover your full AI inventory, including systems outside that ecosystem.

How to compare platforms in a demo or proof of concept
Use your actual inventory and a representative use case, not a generic vendor walkthrough. These are procurement questions, not assurances that every platform supports every capability.
| Evaluation area | Questions to ask |
|---|---|
| Inventory and discovery | Can the system discover or import the models, agents, applications, vendors, and use cases in your environment? How does it represent shadow AI and third-party systems? |
| Risk classification | Can teams classify systems by purpose, potential impact, deployment setting, data sensitivity, and applicable jurisdiction? What triggers reassessment when a system changes? |
| Workflow and accountability | Can intake, assessment, approval, attestation, exceptions, and remediation be assigned to named owners, with an audit history? |
| Framework and legal mapping | Does the platform map controls to the frameworks and obligations relevant to your use cases? Can reviewers inspect supporting evidence instead of relying on a compliance label? |
| Runtime monitoring and enforcement | What deployed behavior, quality, safety, and policy signals can it observe? Can it intervene, and in which model or agent environments? |
| Integration and architecture | Which cloud platforms, model providers, data catalogs, GRC tools, identity systems, and workflow tools are supported now? What needs custom implementation? |
| Evidence and reporting | Can it retain decisions, model changes, evaluations, exceptions, controls, and monitoring results in a form your reviewers can use? |
| Buying fit | What is included in the quoted package, what requires services, and what is available in your region and preferred deployment model? |
Use standards and regulation to shape your controls
NIST AI Risk Management Framework
NIST AI RMF 1.0 organizes risk-management work into four functions: GOVERN, MAP, MEASURE, and MANAGE. NIST describes GOVERN as cross-cutting across AI risk management. Use the framework to structure internal responsibilities and vendor questions; purchasing software is not the same as implementing the framework.
EU AI Act
The European Commission’s regulatory-framework page, last updated August 3, 2026, says the Act entered into force on August 1, 2024 and became applicable on August 2, 2026, with exceptions. The page gives earlier and later dates for specific duties and categories: prohibited-practice and AI-literacy obligations began applying on February 2, 2025; GPAI governance rules and obligations became applicable on August 2, 2025; and specified high-risk categories have later transition dates, including December 2, 2027 for listed Annex III use cases and August 2, 2028 for certain AI systems embedded in regulated products. Which duties and dates apply depends on the system’s classification and the organization’s role, so check the Commission’s current guidance for each use case.
The Commission also says deployers must ensure human oversight and monitoring after systems are placed on the market, while providers must maintain post-market monitoring and providers and deployers must report serious incidents and malfunctioning. Use those responsibilities to assign owners and plan operational controls; this overview is not legal advice.

Start by defining which AI systems need oversight, who is responsible for each review, what evidence reviewers must retain, and whether you need visibility only or runtime intervention as well. Then test the shortlisted platforms against those needs using representative systems and workflows. Include the people who will operate the controls—such as security, legal, compliance, data, and AI teams—in the evaluation so the chosen system fits both your technical environment and your accountability model.
