Those are different jobs. Six options below have relevant official product documentation; primitive.dev and Hostinger Agentic Mail are included as lower-confidence candidates, not equally verified recommendations.
Compare the eight options at a glance
| Tool | Best fit | Documented access and operations | Status or qualification |
|---|---|---|---|

| Microsoft Agent 365 Mail tools | An agent working with a signed-in user’s Microsoft 365 mail | Create drafts; send, search, get, update, delete, and reply to messages | Preview; Microsoft says it is restricted, not intended for production, and subject to tool-name and parameter changes |
| AgentMail | A dedicated inbox for an agent | Hosted MCP tools for inboxes, messages, threads, drafts, attachments, and sending | Official MCP documentation describes API-key authentication |
| Email for Agents | Agent email through REST or MCP | REST with project-scoped API keys; MCP with human-authorized OAuth connection grants | Its documentation says it does not certify MCP clients or offer one-click client setups |
| e2a | Agent email with multiple integration choices | MCP, REST, SDKs, signed webhooks, and WebSockets; documentation covers replies, idempotency, and review behavior | The repository identifies the /v1 API and TypeScript and Python SDKs as generally available at v1.5.0; some newer resources are beta |
| Resend | Application and transactional email workflows | Agent-facing MCP, CLI, SDK, and REST options; MCP tools include received-email capabilities | Its official MCP server announcement is dated April 7, 2026; check whether its product boundary meets your inbox needs |

Choose by the email job your agent needs to do
Connect to a person’s existing inbox
Gmail MCP and Microsoft Agent 365 Mail tools are the direct fits when the agent needs to work with a user’s mail account. They do not provision a separate identity for the agent. Gmail’s documented operations include reading and organizing messages and creating drafts. Microsoft lists a broader set of message operations, including sending and replying, but its preview status makes it unsuitable to treat as a settled production interface.

Give the agent a dedicated inbox
AgentMail, Email for Agents, and e2a are the more direct candidates when the agent needs its own email identity or conversational mailbox. The integration surface and credentials differ: AgentMail documents a hosted MCP server and API-key header; Email for Agents separates project-scoped REST keys from human-authorized MCP grants; e2a documents MCP, REST, SDKs, webhooks, and WebSockets.

Send application or transactional email
Resend is the clearest fit in this list for application email infrastructure. Its agent materials describe several ways to integrate, and its MCP announcement includes received-email tools. That does not by itself establish that it provides the same dedicated, agent-owned conversational mailbox experience as an inbox-focused service.
What to know about each tool
Google Gmail MCP: use the user’s Gmail, with draft review
Google describes a remote Gmail MCP server for AI agents. Setup involves a Google Cloud project, enabling the Gmail API and Gmail MCP API, configuring OAuth, and connecting a compatible MCP host. Its documented toolset supports searching threads, retrieving messages and threads, listing drafts and labels, creating drafts, and labeling or unlabeling messages and threads. Google says the integration inherits the user’s permissions and data-governance controls. The example workflow creates a draft that the user reviews and sends from Gmail; it should not be mistaken for a documented autonomous-send flow.

Microsoft Agent 365 Mail tools: broad operations, preview caveat
Microsoft Learn describes mail tools backed by Microsoft Graph. The listed operations include creating drafts, sending, searching, getting, updating, deleting, and replying to messages. Microsoft labels the functionality preview, warns that it is restricted and not intended for production use, and notes that tool names and parameters may change. Consider it for evaluation in a Microsoft 365 environment, not as a stable production dependency on the evidence available here.
AgentMail: hosted MCP for a dedicated inbox
AgentMail’s official MCP documentation covers inbox, message, thread, draft, attachment, and sending tools. It instructs clients to send an API key in an x-api-key header and warns against putting keys in query strings. The available documentation establishes the integration approach, but not comparative reliability, pricing, or retention terms.

Email for Agents: distinguish REST keys from MCP authorization
Email for Agents documents project-scoped API keys for REST and human-authorized OAuth connection grants for MCP. Its documentation says it does not certify MCP clients or provide one-click client setups, so test the full send-and-receive round trip in a test project before depending on a particular client connection. The documentation identifies API version 2026-09-19 and says it was last reviewed September 21, 2026.
e2a: multiple integration surfaces and review controls
e2a documents agent email over MCP, REST, SDKs, signed webhooks, and WebSockets. Its documentation describes webhook signature verification, replies that preserve threads, idempotency keys for send, reply, and forward, and pending-review behavior. Its repository identifies the /v1 API and TypeScript and Python SDKs as generally available at v1.5.0; newer resources identified as beta should be assessed separately from the core API.

Resend: infrastructure with agent-facing tools
Resend announced its official MCP server on April 7, 2026, describing ten tool groups across emails, contacts, broadcasts, domains, webhooks, segments, topics, contact properties, API keys, and received emails. Its agent page describes MCP, CLI, SDK, and REST options with an API key. Choose it when those infrastructure and workflow capabilities match the task; confirm directly whether it supplies the inbox identity and conversational behavior your agent requires.
primitive.dev and Hostinger Agentic Mail: verify before adopting
A primitive.dev listing describes managed *.primitive.email addresses, a REST API, MCP, and hosted inbound handlers, but the available evidence does not establish its current official documentation or product status. Hostinger Agentic Mail appears in a third-party roundup as an agent-mailbox option, but its primary documentation and feature set are not established here. Treat both as leads to validate rather than as confirmed equivalents to the documented services above.
Review permissions and email-borne prompt injection
Email gives an agent access to private data and can also carry instructions written by untrusted senders. Google explicitly warns that untrusted mail can create indirect prompt-injection risk and recommends screening prompts and responses. Apply that caution to any agent that reads incoming messages, not only one connected through Gmail.
Quick Recap
- Grant only the mailbox and operations the workflow needs; separate test credentials and inboxes from live mail where possible.
- Keep credentials out of message content and URLs. For AgentMail, use the documented
x-api-keyheader rather than a query string. - Require human review for consequential outbound messages until the workflow’s permissions and behavior are understood.
- Test how the agent handles instructions embedded in inbound email, attachments, and quoted replies before enabling actions that send, delete, or modify messages.
How to make the shortlist
- Decide who owns the address. If the agent should operate within a person’s inbox, evaluate Gmail MCP or Microsoft’s mail tools. If it needs a separate identity, start with dedicated-inbox candidates. If the requirement is application email, evaluate Resend.
- Map required actions. List whether the agent must search, read, draft, send, reply in-thread, handle attachments, or process inbound messages. Do not assume one service’s documented operation set applies to another.
- Match the integration and credentials. Check whether your agent host supports MCP, REST, an SDK, webhooks, or WebSockets, then confirm how credentials are authorized and scoped.
- Test a complete round trip. In a non-production project or inbox, send a message, receive a reply, verify thread behavior and inbound delivery, and confirm how drafts or pending reviews work.
- Confirm operational terms directly. Check current availability, pricing, limits, retention, and production status with the vendor; these details are not established by the feature descriptions above.
