Choose a SMART worksheet to clarify one goal, an action plan to assign steps, a tracker to monitor progress, or a weekly review to adjust your approach. Clockify’s seven-template roundup and worksheet offer one starting point; alternatives such as Smartsheet’s collection provide different formats and planning styles.
Which goal-setting template should you use?
Start with what you need the worksheet to do. A template is useful when it helps you move from a broad intention to a clear outcome, then identify what to do next. The categories below describe the purposes publishers assign to their templates, not a comparative test of results.

How to fill out a SMART goal worksheet
SMART stands for specific, measurable, attainable, relevant, and time-bound. A worksheet can make those elements concrete, but it cannot guarantee that the outcome will happen. Clockify’s June 22, 2026 guide also cautions against treating SMART goals as a universal way to judge success or failure, particularly when outcomes are uncertain or challenges are expected.

Clockify’s simple worksheet uses six prompts. Answer them in order, keeping the goal and its first action distinct:
- State the goal. Describe the outcome you want in clear terms.
- Explain why it matters. Connect the goal to a reason that makes it relevant to you.
- Consider why it is achievable. Identify the resources, skills, or circumstances that make it seem attainable.
- Estimate the time available. Consider the time you can actually dedicate to the work.
- Name the first step. Choose an action that can begin moving the goal forward.
- Set a date for that step. Put the first action on a specific date so the plan starts with something actionable.
The prompts come from Clockify’s Simple SMART Goal Template PDF. For example, “get better at studying” is too broad to guide a schedule. A more useful draft would state the subject or skill, how you will recognize progress, and a time frame; the first action could then be a scheduled study session. Treat the example as a way to apply the prompts, not as a promise about results.

When a worksheet needs an action plan or tracker
Use an action plan when the goal takes multiple steps
A SMART worksheet helps define the destination; an action plan maps the route. For a goal involving other people or several stages, list the steps, who is responsible, target dates, possible obstacles, and notes. Smartsheet describes these fields as part of its goal-plan template. They are especially useful when a goal depends on coordination rather than personal reflection alone.
Use a tracker when you need a continuing view
A tracker is better suited to keeping several goals visible across a period of time. Smartsheet describes trackers that group goals with deadlines and progress charts. If you need to check in regularly, add a weekly assessment so that reflection leads to a change in the next steps rather than simply recording that time has passed.

How Clockify describes tracking goal work
Clockify proposes representing a goal as a project and its smaller actions as tasks. In that arrangement, you can record time on tasks using a timer or timesheet, set time estimates and deadlines, inspect project status, and review or export time reports. Clockify’s goal-tracker page also describes progress reporting and filtering data by project, task, or tag.
These are Clockify’s own descriptions of its features, not independent evidence that tracking time improves goal attainment. The approach may suit work where time spent is useful to monitor; it is less informative on its own when progress is better measured by a result, such as completing a course module or submitting an application. For the vendor’s feature details, see Clockify’s goal tracker page.

Choose a format that fits how you work
Use a printable worksheet if handwriting helps you think through a goal or you want a simple page to keep nearby. Choose a spreadsheet when you want to update progress, sort or group goals, or share a plan. A document format can work for a written action plan with responsibilities and notes. The available formats described by Clockify and Smartsheet include PDF, Word, Excel, and Google Sheets; availability can change, so check the publisher’s page for the current download options.
For a paper-first routine, a goal-setting planner or journal can sit alongside a printable worksheet; no particular planner is endorsed here. Clockify’s printable worksheet is a single-page starting point, while a longer plan or tracker can serve as the place to revisit multiple goals over time.
Best Value
- 52 Weeks Undated Planner : No preprinted fixed dates allow you to start planning at any week without wasting blank pages. You can pause recording and resume later freely, avoiding unnecessary page waste caused by interrupted use of dated planners.
- WEEKLY GOALS & FOCUS SETTING: Prioritize your core weekly objectives at the top of each page to clarify main tasks ahead of trivial affairs. This structure helps you cut down aimless busyness and keep your whole week’s work and life on track.
- DETAILED DAILY TO DO LIST: The page is divided into independent writing areas for Monday through Weekend. You can sort and record work assignments, study tasks and personal errands separately, so important schedules will not be forgotten or omitted.
- BUILT-IN HABIT TRACKER TABLE: Special grid area supports marking daily habit completion status, with columns for goal setting and weekly achievement statistics. It helps you intuitively track persistence progress without purchasing an extra separate habit journal.
- FLAT LAY SPIRAL BINDING: Double wire coil binding enables the planner to lie fully flat for smooth writing without flipping back. Compact lightweight body is easy to slip into backpacks and tote bags, suitable for office work, school study and travel arrangement.
Keep the plan manageable and adaptable
Clockify advises focusing on a few high-priority goals, preparing for setbacks, and reviewing progress. That keeps a worksheet from becoming a list of ambitions without an obvious next move. If a goal is delayed, revisit its assumptions, available time, and next action; revise the plan rather than treating a missed date as proof that the goal was pointless.
