It explains lock readouts, initialization, configuration, firmware handling, Visionline registration, emergency power opening, coldstart and local database tools.
The available copy is a third-party Scribd mirror, and its revision history ends in April 2018. Treat its Windows list and procedures as historical Visionline-era guidance, not proof of support in 2026 or compatibility with newer Vostio products.
What Lock Service 3G is—and is not
Lock Service 3G is a Windows service application for authorized installers, hotel engineering teams, maintenance technicians and Visionline administrators. It is not guest-facing software, a general USB utility or a substitute for the Visionline application server.
The guide documents these functions:
- Read LockLog events, lock parameters, passage schedules and blocked-group status.
- Set a system ID, initialize a lock to a database door and set lock time.
- Change selected lock, external-device and lock-case parameters.
- Upload lock or endnode firmware.
- Connect and register a service PC with Visionline.
- Download server data, firmware and protected power-open or coldstart tokens.
- Export logs, upload or delete stored logs and compress the local database.
Firmware, pairing, power-open, coldstart and database-identity operations can affect security or device availability. Restrict them to trained personnel with authorization and a recovery plan.

Legacy status and relationship to newer tools
The guide lists Windows Vista, 7, 8, 10, Server 2008, Server 2012 and Server 2016. Those are the compatibility claims of the 2018-era document, not a current Microsoft or ASSA ABLOY support guarantee. Confirm the supported operating system, Visionline release and lock family with ASSA ABLOY or the authorized integrator before deploying it on a current PC.
Current Vostio documentation describes newer mobile service and commissioning workflows for newer lock families. It does not establish that Vostio tools replace Lock Service 3G or work with every legacy 3G lock. A current Vostio commissioning example is available at this official guide. Lock Service 3G is still referenced in some legacy or mixed-system procedures, including interface-board replacement guidance, at this official document.
Required equipment and access
- A Windows service PC with a free USB port.
- Lock Service 3G from the customer’s authorized Visionline bundle.
- The specific USB interface 3G and compatible service cable.
- The appropriate FTDI driver.
- LAN access to the Visionline/application server for server functions.
- A service-device host configured in the application server, normally with a unique port and suitable IP configuration.
- A registration code generated by the application server.
- Credentials and authorization for protected operations.
The physical connection is:
Lock or lock-connected device → service cable → USB interface 3G → service-PC USB port
The PC’s separate LAN connection reaches Visionline. The USB interface is not the server connection.

Install the application and FTDI driver
- Obtain the installer from the authorized Visionline bundle or ASSA ABLOY support channel. No verified public official download page or installer filename is established by the guide.
- Confirm that the Lock Service 3G release matches the installed Visionline environment.
- Run the installer and follow its prompts.
- Check whether the build uses the newer WiX installer. The guide says a WiX-based build cannot be upgraded directly from an older InstallShield build; uninstall the older installation first when required by the installer.
- Install the FTDI driver appropriate to the interface and operating system if Windows does not detect the USB device. Reboot if the driver or installer requests it.
- Record the installed application version and connect the interface only after the cable and driver arrangement are confirmed.
The exact build number at which the installer technology changed is not visible in the available copy, so do not infer it from a filename.
Register the service PC with Visionline
Registration is a server-side, normally one-time authentication step. The guide’s workflow is:
- In the application server’s device list, create a service-device host.
- Assign a unique port and, where required by the site design, a static IP address.
- Choose the location, normally Server; some firewall architectures use Computer.
- Generate the service-device registration code in the application server.
- Enter that code in Lock Service 3G’s registration area.
- Select the correct USB serial port and Visionline server for the USB interface 3G.
Multiple interfaces can be presented as sequential FTDI devices such as FTDI0 and FTDI1. Selecting the wrong interface or port can leave the application apparently installed while lock communication fails.

LockLog event readout
- Connect the service cable to the lock.
- Open the LockLog readout section.
- Select the event type and number of events required.
- Click Readout and review the returned events.
- Click Save to retain them in the local database, or use the clipboard controls to copy all or selected events.
The guide states that up to 3,000 events can be saved in the database.
Parameter readout
- Connect the service cable.
- Leave Check time enabled unless a documented procedure says otherwise.
- Click Readout and inspect the General, Lock, Module and Misc tabs.
With time checking enabled, a difference of more than five minutes between the lock and service PC prompts about setting the lock time.

Other status information
The guide also exposes passage schedules and blocked-group status. Preserve a readout and export before changing settings or performing recovery operations.
Initialize a lock to a Visionline door
Initialization is a database-linked commissioning action, not a local factory reset. The room or door must exist in the relevant database and the service PC must be using current server data.

- Enter the room number and click Search Door.
- Select the matching room in the door list.
- Optionally select Read parameters after successful initialization.
- If Mobile Access applies, optionally select Include BLE configuration data.
- Select the room and click Initialize.
Initialization time is recorded in the database, and the lock time is set during initialization.
Set time and configure lock parameters
Set time in lock
Because initialization normally sets the clock, use Set time in lock mainly after time loss or corruption. Verify the service PC clock first, connect the cable and click Set time. Incorrect timestamps, schedule failures and disagreement between lock and server logs are common reasons to investigate clock state.
Configure lock
Configuration can change external-device pairing, tamper-switch behavior, beeper and blue-LED behavior, validation settings, ZigBee-related settings and other lock-case alternatives. The guide specifically advises discussing lock-case alternatives with Technical Support before applying them.

Pairing and interface-board replacement
Pairing controls the relationship between a lock or controller and an external device such as a remote controller or interface board. The guide says some remote-controller serial-number ranges require Enable pairing during first setup, while a specified later range normally does not. If an interface board is replaced, pairing may need to be disabled first.
These rules are hardware-specific. Do not apply a serial-number threshold to another product generation. The current RS-485 gateway documentation demonstrates that some replacement procedures also require a power reset and functional checks.
Firmware upload and server downloads
Firmware handling is controlled maintenance, not a generic repair. Confirm the exact lock or endnode model, hardware revision and compatible firmware before proceeding. Ensure stable power and communication, record the current version and do not disconnect the cable during upload.
- Use the firmware area’s Available versions list, where the guide says 3G firmware is normally already present.
- Select the approved version and click Upload.
- Watch the progress percentage and answer whether the lock time should be set after upload.
- Delete obsolete entries only when local retention policy permits it.
The application can browse to a firmware file on USB memory, but the guide says downloading firmware from the server is normally unnecessary when the required version is already bundled with Lock Service 3G. Separately, Download data from server retrieves selected configuration or authorization data, while Download firmware queries the server and stores a selected version locally. Up to 100 firmware versions can be saved in the database according to the guide.

Power-open
Power-open is an emergency procedure for a lock whose battery is drained. The service PC downloads a power-open token from Visionline; the system ID must be set first. The default token validity is 30 minutes, although Visionline distributor settings can change it from 1 to 1,440 minutes. Downloading the token may require a password. In demo mode, the operation sends an event to the lock.

Coldstart
Coldstart returns a lock requiring recovery to a factory-status condition. A system ID is required, the application supplies different instructions depending on whether the lock has the same system ID, and the downloaded token expires after 30 minutes if unused. Password authorization is required.
Both operations can alter access control and should be performed only by authorized personnel who have preserved logs and documented the recovery plan.
Logs and database maintenance
Use the LockLog database tools to review saved events, upload selected logs to the server or delete them. The export function creates a text file containing LockLog and parameter information for technical support. The guide also provides Compress database to compact the local database.
Export and preserve evidence before a coldstart, firmware change, pairing change or database move. Exported logs may contain operational or security-sensitive information.
Troubleshoot by symptom
USB interface is not detected
- Check Device Manager for the FTDI device.
- Install the correct FTDI driver for the interface and operating system.
- Disconnect duplicate interfaces to avoid FTDI0/FTDI1 confusion.
- Recheck the selected serial port in Lock Service 3G.
- Try a known-good USB port and service cable.
- If the device remains absent, stop and contact authorized support.
The application opens but cannot reach Visionline
- Verify LAN connectivity, server address, port and firewall rules.
- Confirm that the service-device host exists and has the intended location.
- Check the registration code and server selection.
- Consider whether the PC was moved or a database was restored.
The room cannot be found during initialization
- Check the room number and search method.
- Confirm the door exists in the server database and current data has been downloaded.
- Verify the system ID, service cable, USB interface and selected server.
Firmware upload fails or stalls
- Confirm model, endnode and hardware-revision compatibility.
- Check battery or external power and cable stability.
- Do not infer compatibility from a filename or list entry alone.
- Do not repeatedly retry an uncertain upload; escalate with the model, old firmware, selected version and error message.
System ID and database moves
Obtain the unique system ID through the application’s System ID section. The guide warns that moving the database to another PC resets the system ID to demo. Do not copy or restore a database casually: migration can disable protected operations or change the installation’s identity until it is properly re-established.
When to contact ASSA ABLOY support
Escalate before proceeding when the lock model or firmware family is uncertain, a protected token is rejected, pairing instructions conflict with the hardware documentation, the database has been moved, or a lock does not restart after firmware or coldstart. Provide the document number, Lock Service 3G and Visionline versions, lock model and hardware revision, USB-interface detection status, selected server and port, system-ID state, error text, and exported logs where permitted.
For current tooling, confirm whether the installation belongs on legacy Visionline/Lock Service 3G or a supported Vostio workflow. The available guide is a historical reference, not evidence of universal 2026 compatibility.
