Tom’s Guide’s six picks cover all-round use, budget buying, gaming, mechanical typing, ergonomics and typing feel—but the roundup does not name a dedicated travel winner. Its overall pick is the NuPhy Node75; for a keyboard you’ll carry, compare actual dimensions, weight and battery conditions rather than assuming a recommendation is travel-ready.
What the six picks are meant to do
The recommendations below are from Tom’s Guide’s roundup, last updated 27 August 2026. The publication says it tests keyboards by playing games, examining software for remapping, macros, lighting and profiles, then using each board for productivity and personal gaming for at least two or three days. These are Tom’s Guide’s recommendations and reported findings, not independent tests conducted for this article. Tom’s Guide’s wireless keyboard roundup

| Keyboard | Roundup category | What the source highlights |
|---|---|---|
| NuPhy Node75 | Best overall | Wired, Bluetooth and 2.4 GHz dongle connections; low-profile and standard-profile variants; customizable design. Tom’s Guide reports 1,000 Hz polling and 3.5 mm switch travel for the low-profile variant. |
| Epomaker Ajazz AK820 Pro | Best budget | Selected as the budget category pick. The roundup’s price is a dated listing snapshot, not a current quote. |
| Lemokey P1 HE | Best gaming | Hall-effect magnetic switches, adjustable actuation, Rapid Trigger and 1,000 Hz polling, as reported by Tom’s Guide. |
| Keychron V1 Ultra 8K | Best mechanical | Tom’s Guide reports 8,000 Hz polling and up to 660 hours of battery life. The battery figure should not be treated as ordinary-use runtime without the manufacturer’s test conditions. |
| Keychron Q14 Max | Best ergonomic | Alice-style layout with a number pad on the left; the roundup notes its weight and price as drawbacks. |
| Epomaker Glyph | Best for typing | Chosen for typing feel; it is not presented as the roundup’s travel pick. |
Category labels are useful starting points, not proof that one board suits every task. The Node75 is the all-round choice in this roundup, while the P1 HE is the gaming-specific recommendation. For longer typing sessions, consider the Glyph or V1 Ultra 8K, and look at the Q14 Max if its left-side number pad and Alice-style layout fit your working habits.

How to choose for your use
Work and extended typing
Prioritize the layout and switch feel you can comfortably use for long sessions. Mechanical keyboards vary: linear switches move smoothly, tactile switches have a noticeable bump, and clicky switches add audible feedback. Tom’s Guide’s buying guide also contrasts mechanical boards with membrane keyboards, which tend to be quieter and have less key travel. “Mechanical” alone does not tell you how loud or comfortable a particular model will feel.

Gaming
Look at connection options and the features relevant to your games. The P1 HE’s Hall-effect switches, adjustable actuation and Rapid Trigger are the features Tom’s Guide cites for its gaming pick; its 1,000 Hz polling figure is also reported by that publication. These are product-feature claims, not a controlled comparison showing that it will improve every player’s performance.
A 2.4 GHz dongle can be useful when you want a wireless connection alongside Bluetooth or wired use. Logitech G’s G515 is an example of a keyboard whose official page lists all three connection modes, but it is not one of the six picks and the available evidence does not establish that it outperforms them. Travel and small desks
The roundup’s categories do not include a travel recommendation. Before buying a board to carry, check its dimensions and weight, whether its layout leaves out keys you rely on, and how its battery claim was measured. Compact formats can save desk and bag space but may sacrifice a number pad or require you to adjust to a different key arrangement.

Razer describes its Joro as portable and gives product dimensions and weight on its official page. It also lists Bluetooth multi-device pairing and claims up to 1,800 hours of battery life specifically in Power Saving Mode; Razer says actual runtime varies with usage, settings and environment. That conditional figure is not a normal-use battery estimate, and the Joro is not among Tom’s Guide’s six recommendations. Razer Joro product page

Check the details that change the buying decision
- Layout: Full-size boards include a number pad; tenkeyless and smaller layouts reduce footprint but remove keys. Match the format to your desk, bag and number-entry needs.
- Switch sound and response: Compare linear, tactile and clicky options, and check the exact switch variant. Sound and feel can differ between versions of the same keyboard.
- Hot swapping: If you want to change switches without soldering, verify that the exact model and variant supports hot swapping. The buying guide discusses this as a feature to consider; do not assume every version has it.
- Connectivity: Confirm whether the version you are considering supports Bluetooth, a 2.4 GHz receiver, wired use, or some combination. A model name alone may not identify the exact variant.
- Battery: Treat maximum-hour claims as conditional unless the maker specifies the settings and test conditions. Lighting, power-saving modes and usage affect runtime.
- Price and stock: Tom’s Guide gives a general buying range of $50–$200 and model-specific prices as dated snapshots. Those figures are not guaranteed current prices; check today’s price, availability, layout and switch configuration before purchasing.
Which one should you shortlist?
For a single all-round choice based on this roundup, start with the NuPhy Node75. Choose the Lemokey P1 HE if gaming features are the priority, or consider the V1 Ultra 8K and Epomaker Glyph for typing-oriented use. The Q14 Max is the ergonomic-layout option, while the AK820 Pro is the roundup’s budget pick. None is identified as the travel winner, so make portability a separate comparison based on verified size, weight and realistic battery expectations.
